And to think all these years of following the IIAC and I was never at Dr. Salami's.  It sounds as though I've really missed something.  :P

Will the new Wartburg cross country course be ready for meets this season?  It sure looks like that is a great location for an on campus course.  I was intrigued about the retirement housing that is being proposed for the interior of the course.  I'm a few years away from giving such property any serious consideration, but it sure would be nice to be close to campus for recreation, fine arts and athletics.  I'm not sure Little Warthog and Peacock Warthog would want us in the Waverly area, that might be too much family time.

The last time I was out for homecoming, I pulled into the Dr. Salami's parking lot just in time for my headlights to fall on two college age women puking.  It was the first tandem barf I had ever witnessed in the lady's division.  It's not my idea of a good time but if I thought it could have moved Central up in the party school ranking, I would have taken a picture.

Tsk tsk...no respect for women who can't hold their liquor.  ;)
A pessimist is a man who feels that all women are bad. An optimist hopes so.

With all the synchronized 'sports' in the Olympics, will 'synchonized barfing' be next?

Or didn't you note their degree of synchronization? ;D

Yes the X-C course will be used this fall. I X-C skied it last winter the finish line will be at the end of about .3 mile down hill sprint. Starting line on the south side of RR tracks by f-ball practice fields.

I'm pretty sure the housing will be along the west end of the course. http://www.wartburg.edu/magazine/summer08/bartels.html

I can't draw any conclusions from today's scrimmage with Grandview. Feller [QB] is not at Tekippe's level, but he had his moments. It appears the job is his to lose.

Try this as a college football oddity: I expect Coe will start the year as the only college in the country whose starting quarterback is older than the offensive coordinator.

Is Feller a returning GI?

The DM Register has done it again. Is it just me or does the Football preview section of the paper get smaller each year?? Used to be page now all on 1 page not the state paper they claim. Pages and pages on Iowa and Iowa State Football but not a word on the IIAC . ??? ??? ??? ???

doolittledog

Sad to say, but I think "Iowa's newspaper" has become "Des Moines' newspaper"

Airborne Dutch

Thats too bad. The Register's football season preview used to be a big deal. There always was a good article about notable IIAC players. Doolittle, I think you are right.

Klompen, not that I will be in Pella for awhile but will Doc Salamis still have a bar? Thats a key feature of that place.
Can't say for sure Airborne, I would guess that they still will, but that would be a new endeavor for the new owners as their other restaurants do not.  Still, I can't see them not having it.

Central Fans and Pella visitors, if you were a fan of Dr. Salami's you will need to find a new place for awhile.  It is currently closed, but will be reopening as a restaurant again in the future.  My understanding is that the new owners were planning to offer many of the same options as before, but until it reopens, we can only speculate.  There is always the Sports Page.

Any idea when they'll reopen?  I was kind of planning on hitting Salami's to celebrate a Wartburg win Sept. 21.  They have (had?) pretty good food when I lived in Pella, and a surprisingly good beer selection.  The Sports Page hadn't opened yet by the time I left town, so I have no basis of comparison there.
The Sports Page is always a full house, it doesn't seem to matter when you go there, you usually have to wait to get in.  Just goes to show that Pella needs more sit down restaurants.  The food is good, if you don't mind that it may come in a mixed up order, salads after the main course is out, or not everyone getting food at the same time.  The bar always seems full, but couldn't tell you how they compare to Salami's.  I don't know when the old Salami's will open again.  I expect it will have a different name.  My understanding, not that it is well known, is that the owners of George's and the Windmill bought it.  I'm a bit surprised it hasn't already reopened, but then again, I don't know how much they might want to change things on the inside.  Haven't seen any cars around to indicate anyone is in there doing anything yet.

Wait? George's is under new ownership also? Please tell me they still have the same menu. I would have killed and pillaged to some of that pizza overseas.

No, no, no.  George's is under the same ownership.  The people that own George's also own the Windmill Cafe and now Doc Salami's (whatever the new name will be).  So if you like George's, you will probably like the fact that they now own Salami's.

So, Klompen and Airborne Dutch, with the ownership change is there a chance that George's and the Windmill will now have the same entertainment (women tossing lunch in the parking lot) as Doc Salami's?

Just think, SportsKnight was trying to pick up some of those same girls when they returned from the parking lot after unloading.  Not that he succeeded.  Even women who are blind drunk have standards.    ;)
