Is Central still the big game for Simpson fans?  I'm probably in the minority, but when I look at the Central's schedule I'm more interested in when the Wartburg and Coe games are scheduled (as of right now b/c they are at the top and have given Central the most problems loses).  10 years ago, it was definitely Simpson for me.

I agree.  It isn't Simpson, it is whatever team has had the most success against us in football.  Funny, that carries over to all other sports as well.  IMHO  Central does not like teams that beat/challenge us in football or recruiting.

As to Houdini, I don't think schools give us enough credit for the key player injuries we had last year.  Vance played against Simpson the first half, if I remember right, and just couldn't do it and sat out the entire second half.  Again, if my feeble mind remembers correctly.  With the 2 time conference MVP not playing and not healthy when playing it does make a difference.  Just ask St. Johns who caught us when most players were healthy.  It was not like ANY of our Iowa conference games and those key players being 100% was a lot of the reason.  Of course Connell didn't hurt either!   :D :D :D

between me and the cornell faithful it looks to be quite a year in the iiac! ;)
We welcome increased competition, as long as you aren't competing against us!   ;D

This was posted on the MIAC board.  I am glad that there aren't any IIAC presidents doing this.

Yikes, I don't even know what to say about that.  What in the world would make him think that was a good situation to be in???
Well, I guess we know where the party school is now.  The IIAC isn't even in the running on this one.  Thankfully!  Wow, what was he thinking!

Wow -- unbelievable! I can't believe that a president would think that was OK...does it remind anyone else of the Larry Eustachy incident?

I didn't play football, so I can't be as technical as most of you about what Central needs to do to be successful.  Maybe I could take the scientific approach and say that we will be successful if we have one clone each of Tim Connell and Vance Schuring and three clones of Vern Den Herder.   ;)

Central will need to get up to speed with a lot of new players real fast given that Wartburg is scheduled so early.  Finding strong replacements for Tim and Vance will be crucial to our success.  I know the coaches were excited about gettin Zack Bandow last year and Nate Snead this year.  Tim Connell was pretty much an untested quantity when he took over as a sophomore and he lead us to 3 straight championships, so I have faith that we will be in good hands again, I'm just not sure whose hands they will be.  Having watched Vance in HS, he was always something special, though prone to injury.  He reminded me a lot of Mark Kacmarynski, always ran tough and really made teams pay if they let him find a hole.  I have heard a lot of good things about the potential QB's, so I feel a bit more confident about that spot.  The backup tailbacks got lots of playing time while Vance was hampered by his nagging injuries last year.  He played most games, but clearly not at 100%.  But even at less than 100% he provided a spark that Veldhuizen and Zachary just didn't quite have.  I think they can both be good tailbacks, but I would rather have great again.   ;)  So I think the passing game may be crucial again this year.

We have a lot more holes to fill and I can only hope that with 132 players on the team we can find the right guys for the right positions.  I think Spencer Remick will be outstanding on the line.  Cam Waugh could really open some eyes this year.  It will be interesting to see what the transfers bring to the table.  The one thing I have complete faith in is that Coach Mac will have them playing as a team, not for individual accolades and hopefully the returning players will still have that "find a way" mentality.  If we can't face WB at the end of the season, then it is good to have them right away.  We will be an unknown this year, which makes it harder to plan for.

Plus, when WB loses early in the season, they have time to climb back up the ratings so two of us can go to the playoffs.   ;) ;) ;)

Good assessment. :)

I agree.  Poor judgement for the age of people he was drinking with.  Would anyone view this the same way if this pictures was taken with a bunch of 50 something.  And before anyone says anything about 50 somethings, I know quite  few who can still tie one on with the best of them.

Let's not forget that we're talking about the prez of Iowa Central.  The only way that place qualifies as an institute of higher learning is that most of the students are baked 24/7.  This is probably all part of their new recruiting strategy to diversify the campus by recruiting drunks along with the normal potheads, white trash, and aspiring Waldorf Warriors (redundant, I know).

At least he has the common sense to be pictured with a beer of higher quality than Natty Light (see Eustachy, Larry). Not saying that Natty Light isn't high quality beer or anything......(I would hate offend any of my fellow beakes or DF1 for that matter). DF2k4, they are very good reasons indeed  ;)

You may think that they are good reasons but I don't think being with people half your age is a good thing.  I wonder where the wife was and what she thought or is thinking of this?  Like I said there are reasons that he was there but was he thinking with his brain?

Seriously, my karma takes an immediate hit for knocking ICCC?  Do we have some GED holders on this site?  Not that I'm really worried about my karma, I'm just wondering which correctional facility they're logged in from.

My karma took a nose dive the last 5 days and I guess I did not think that my posts could have offended anyone that bad.  The karma trolls are out and its a sad sad habit.  But who cares about karma its only a number.

DF2k4, I was being a bit tongue in cheek when I said he had good reasons for being there. For my age, yes, good reasons, but for a college president to be doing that is just irresponsible. Those are the exact same reasons that it would be in incredibly poor judgment for me to be found at one of WH's players' high school parties (I have friends that went to Dowling; I know they aren't all saints)

From the looks of the picture, he is at one of two places--Gull Point or Miller's Bay.  Both are places where many, many people, ranging in age from 10-80, beach their boats and party together.  Often, parents of older children tag along, both to have fun and party like in their younger days and also to make sure the boat they paid for makes it back in one piece.  I've seen many soccer moms holding beer bongs not because they're encouraging binge drinking, but because their kid thinks it's funny to see them doing something so out of character.  Maybe we should be applauding the guy for being the DD (if that was the case).  I can assure you there were much worse things going on at the same locale that day, and the lakes area is populated mostly by doctors, lawyers, and successful entrepreneurs.  It might surprise some people, but intelligent, successful people like to have fun, too.

Don't get me wrong, I think he should probably be more careful--especially when there are cameras around.  I just think a lot of people are making a big deal without knowing the context of the situation.
