Not sure if you have some inside info about some sub-culture of twisted people in Pella hiding in their basements, or if you're just trying to crack a funny.  My experience is that people have an appropriate perspective on alcohol here in town, but it's just not as important a social custom as many other places.
Very accurate observation, Mav45.  It isn't that people do or do not drink, or even how they feel about drinking.  People order drinks at restaurants and bars or serve it at social functions, but it isn't the reason to gather or the primary focus.

College football starts tonight!!!  This will really get me anxious for next weeks IIAC games!!!  And with that...leading from wire to wire in the pick-ems  ;D

Suddenly the list is growing!

IIAC FAN BASE

Central:  dutchFan2004, Dutchfan1, Klompen, KCDutch, Dutchlb, oldbeake, Airborne Dutch, D1HawkD3CUI, Old Dutch, DutchHawk, fannosaurus rex, Dutchclone, Mav45

Who would have known Central had so many more posters that WB.

As to where are the UD posters, maybe the years down in Cornell's curent position taught them to "shut up until they put up".   Who knows, they might be very vocal at the end of the year>   ;)

I love the regular UD posters on here.  They know what they are talking about, they are both realistic and hopeful and the regulars have been around for years, no matter UD's position.

I know I'm generalizing here, but a lot of people seem to have a holier-than-thou attitude in their home area, but take them 10 miles out of town and they want to slam whiskeys and head to the nearest strip club.

And I do know of people who only drink at home if they're inside with the shades closed for fear of upsetting the teetotalers.  There's nothing wrong with choosing not to drink, I just find it amusing the way some people around here act like having a beer is akin to mainlining heroin.

So, brave defender of Dutch sensibilities, although there is some truth to my comments, I was really just kidding around.  No reason to get your panties in a bunch over it.
Oh, you mean like the Pella people that would all see each other at the mall in Des Moines on Sunday and either try to pretend that they didn't see each other or would sheepishly think "well, they are here too!"  LOL

I think Pella is changing much faster than most people realize.  There is a whole lot of pride in this town, so it will probably always look Dutch in architecture, be kept ultra clean, and have paved alleys, but the attitudes and culture of the citizens is changing.

The D's and V's section of the phone book is no longer half the phone book, the town is much more diverse in ethnicity and skin color, we have restaurants that serve something other than burgers and pizza and the parking lot at Wal-Mart at any time on a Sunday is about as full as the church parking lots.   Change is a good thing.

Just kidding, welcome to the board.  Love to hear from as many fans as we can.

BV faithful - I will report back Friday how they do in the scrimmage against NW in OC tomorrow.

I'll be there too.

Great we can compare notes Friday

Or share a beer together after the scrimmage and compare notes then!!!  ;D

Orange City is like Pella, so that may be harder than you think.  I guess we could hide in the basement somewhere like the people who live there.

Hey, Beav

Not sure if you have some inside info about some sub-culture of twisted people in Pella hiding in their basements, or if you're just trying to crack a funny.  My experience is that people have an appropriate perspective on alcohol here in town, but it's just not as important a social custom as many other places.

That you choose to spend your time watching people lurk around in their basement, sipping hooch in the darkness and whatever else...well, that seems a bit voyeuristic & odd to me, but without knowing you, I suppose I best not comment on things when I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Well I was mostly joking, but since you brought it up, I live in the very corner of northwest Iowa, which is very similar to the area around Pella according to everyone who has ever lived in or visited both places.  Having lived here for a while now, it's interesting the way people act differently depending on who they're around (even more so than most people).

Hey, I think my real problem, as your last sentence seems to appreciate, is that I tend to purchase the cheaper flavors of women's unders.  And when I'm out and about, what with the lesser-grade elastic and all, they DO tend to bunch a bit.  You're right on.

Wasn't trying to "bunch", just stating a response, probably a little too smarty-pants.  Next time I'll use one of those happy face guys so you don't in turn take it too seriously ;)

On a MUCH different side note.....as I was looking at DBQ1965's list of IIAC fans on this board, it got me to thinking about everyone's "screen names". Of course, most have some correlation to the school they respresent although some are very unique and we only know their affiliation when they tell us.

For me, you would think the "University" in "Willie University" had something to do with the UNIVERSITY of Dubuque. However, that is really my porn name-----My middle name (William) and the street I live on (University Ave)----for those of you that don't know what porn name means  ;D

So, that is how Willie University came to be. I moved last year to a new address so I am wondering if I now have to change my screen name?? I think I will stay with Willie University (Willie U for short).

I would have to use the street I grew up on...because the current road I live on is the same as my last name...so wouldn't be anonymous enough.

Lyle Lockwood I think would make a pretty good adult movie name!!!

Better than Douglas E. 9th St. or Thomas S. 29th anyway  ;D
