I was just on Plattevilles web site looking for info on their scrimmage with Wartburg. They have a nice site that includes training camp updates. They have a small paragraph that says, "The NCAA prohibits us from publicizing, in any way, scrimmages with outside competition. So please don't look for any pictures or reports on Thursdays scrimmage."
I never knew there was a NCAA rule about this. I guess it helps explain why it's so hard to get good information on scrimmages.

Non-football discussion topic to get our numbers up before this weekend:  What did everyone do over the Labor Day weekend?

For my part, it was a pretty laid back couple of days.  Covered some high school football on Friday night like I already mentioned.  Spent yesterday back in my hometown hanging out with a friend from high school that ships off to Iraq in a few weeks (he's currently stationed out in CA so this was the last time he was going to be around here before he leaves).  Today I visited the Field of Dreams site outside Dyersville for the umpteenth time and headed up to Breitbach's in Balltown from there.  That place as an absolute mob scene.  I didn't end up getting there until 2:00, hoping to miss the lunch rush, and they told me it would still be 45 minutes to an hour to get a table.  So I snapped a couple pictures and headed back down the road.  Rural Dubuque County is very beautiful this time of year, but nothing like it'll be in a month.

Hey Warthog, are you headed Waverly way this weekend?  What time will your tailgate commence if so?  I'm planning on heading to the game and will be sure to stop by if your crowd is going to be around.

Spent saturday watching football and more football.  Sunday we went down to a friend of ours by Cedar Rapids.  They have Hawkeye season tickets...but this year are not going to any away games...so they can go to some Dubuque Spartan games those weekends!!!  His wife is a Cornell grad by the way...just to throw that out there.  Monday we took the kids to Hickory Hills park to do some fishing.  Our allmost 3 year old son threw his pole down after about 30 seconds and ran up to the playground.  Our girls were interested in the fishing but got really angry at the fish for not getting caught on their lines!!!  When I pointed to the hill with the big tree that overlooks the lake and told the kids that is where daddy proposed to mommy...they didn't seem too impressed and just wanted to get back home.  We then took the kids over to my parents and I fell asleep on the couch for 2 hours this afternoon...need to get my rest so I am ready for this coming weekend and the start of IIAC football!!!

My holiday weekend was complete with a car break in and an uneventful wedding.  Nothing is more hilarious when you see people spend thousands of dollars on weddings only to see the wedding party so hammered before dinner they do not rememeber eating it.  My favorite part of the whole deal was when the best man was making out with one of the bridesmaids on the dance floor.  Common practice you ask?  Sure if the bridesmaid isnt living with her boyfriend who is close to popping the questions and the best man's pregnant girlfriends isnt steps away while this is happening.  I got a good laugh out of that myself.  Other than that I did enjoy a few Grainbelts that I brought home from my fishing trip up north earlier in the summer!

I spent the weekend in Dubuque, took in the Hawks game on saturday and made it out to the Loras soccer games on Friday and Sunday.  Looks like we have another quality team out there on both the men's and women's side.  Other than that it was a pretty relaxing couple of days, nice to get back to "work" today, though.

Great restaurant by the way!
Not going to lie...Dewey is a pretty good looking bird/furry beaked body builder.

We took our daughter to the water park in Pella on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. It was the closing weekend for the water park and it is a favorite of my wife and daughter. I did catch the first half of the Iowa game. I talked to a few Central football players at the water park on Sunday. I was joking with them that Coach Schipper would have only used the water park for conditioning.

I also heard some scuttlebut (not from the players) that Central may be moving one of their quarterbacks to another position to try and get their best athletes on the field. Don't know if this is true or just old grads gossiping.

In addition to taking Senorita to college, I watched quite a few of the football games on TV.

On Monday we went to the neighbors for a pool party and BBQ.

I had a nice nap too.   :)

Too bad the two-deeps they have on page 4 didn't make it into the online edition!!!  I would have liked to have seen those!!!

My holiday weekend was spent mostly at Okoboji taking advantage of the good boating weather.  We made it a priority to spend as much time as possible on the water since our weekends will be full of football games from here on out and the weather is turning cooler.  It's getting to be time to put away the shorts and sandals and break out the sweaters and stocking caps.

I should note that there were no mini kegs present.  Any photographic evidence to the contrary has been photoshopped.

I was wondering if you were practicing safe boating!!!

To see how Loras video streaming looks, they are doing the WC soccer match from Loras.
Should be going until about 12:15

Hmm, nice video of the scoreboard while we get to hear kids having a conversation amongst themselves!!!  But the video quality looks nice.  Hopefully Dubuque has this for this coming season!!!

So what happened to the update on the BV scrimmage with Northwestern?  I was unable to go and havent heard much besides they played pretty decent but thats all

First I must say I am not a fan of either school - I just went to watch a couple of our HS kids that play for NW
Summary: BV defense pretty good
                BV offense - average
With so much subbing its hard to tell how good they really will be.
NW does have a very good D.
