Best tailgating:  Iowa State vs. UNLV in 2006.  Through a business relationship of my dad's, I was able to go to the game and take part in a pre-game tailgate for free.  The company that was hosting us was in the pork industry, so pork chops and pork sandwiches were the highlights of the food spread, but there was also a plentiful supply of beer.  Walston was along for the ride on that trip.  After the game was over, we stopped back at the tent and took the 6 or so beers that were left and finished those off while waiting for the traffic to thin out.  I will readily admit that ISU probably has better tailgating than Iowa, if for no other reasons than everything is basically in one spot and you can leave at halftime and come back in.

Iowa vs. tOSU that same year is a close second for me.  Iowa City was just nuts that day with Gameday in town and a nationally televised game to get "ready" for.  Iowa vs. ISU in 2002 was a pretty good time too.

As far as the IIAC goes, I may be biased, but I'd say Wartburg has the best tailgating, especially for a Luther or Homecoming game.  I can remember Coe having quite a few people out in the parking lots when I've been down there.  I had a good time the couple times I tailgated in Pella with the DK2004 clan, but it didn't seem like too many other Central folks were in the mood to get into the tailgating spirit.  Hopefully that will be different in 2 weeks.

Best tailgating experience -- College World Series, pick a year, they have all been fabulous. The food, the fans, the atmosphere is second to none.

Second best: Bears/Packers in Chicago a couple of years ago. Both sets of fans know how to get it done.

Third: almost any Hawkeye game is great, but the Sportcenter weekend was unreal. Iowa/Ohio State was awesome -- and an all day event. Too bad the score didn't end up the way we wanted it to....

IIAC games are always fun -- I love meeting other fans before a Central victory. :)

Beavers vs. Pioneer Preview

http://www2.bvu.edu/athletics/fullarticle.jsp?id=7754&category=Football

Beavers vs. the Pioneers sounds like a fight that predates college football!

I would say the Beavers (the kind with the flat tails) seldom came out on top.

;)
You are so right my underdressed friend. And as much as I would love to see the Beavers leave dew on the Pioneers, it may not happen because of the previous conversation. Because of the the 100 man roster rule in the WIAC, Platteville had to cut 78 kids this week.
They return 71 kids from last year, and brought in 107 new faces. As opposed to last year, when they brought in 109 new faces to go with the 10 second year Freshmen, and 77 returning players. They have been a  last place team, the past couple seasons, and are expected to be again.
I know this is apples and oranges, and I'm not interested in re-running the whole private vs. state sponsered schools thing. I'm certainly not advocating roster limits, as it's obvious, if you want to play with the big dogs, you need numbers. You will never be able to find how many Freshmen showed up at Whitewater the last 2 years, but I can tell you it is a lot more than Platteville.
As much as Showme rubs me the wrong way, I too cheer for the underdog a little. Get on top for once Beavers.

Plus K for coming to visit. Plus K squared if you foul the plug on Doolittles mower before week three.

The mower start puttering and then quit on me last week.  My excellent mechanical skills meant I stared at it for awhile with a puzzled look on my face, left to go get a drink, and when I came back it worked fine.  It worked good again this week.  So by week 3 who knows how the lucky mower will feel  ;D

I "watched" UD practice under the lights last night on the UD stadium webcam.  That will be the best I can do as far as video webcasting this season.  The UD AD emailed me they decided to concentrate on the stadium construction this year and will wait  for video streaming until next season.

Question for all:

What-is-the-single-most-important-statistic-other-than-score-in-winning?   (hyphenated-words-count-as-one)

Let's try that again

I think the stats are meaningless as the only one that counts is the score.  I can not count the numbers of games over the last three years that the Dutch lost the stat war but won the game.  Sometimes stats can tell a story but with the Dutch over the past few years it didn't.

The Pioneers have been on the bottom of the conference for a long time, but the competition they play is well good, very good.  The whole Private/Public thing, we have had the convo in the past...But yes there seems to be some good athletes on the Pioneer roster, if any runningback can average 100 + /game against some of the D's they go against, he must be doing something right.  Not saying BV's D isn't good, they traditionally has been the Beavers strong point, but I do believe BV is at a disadvantage going into this game.  Pioneers bring back a ton of kids, BV not so much, good recruiting this year, but I am not sure any frosh will see the field...

Big game at Janesville-Waldorf-Peberton (JWP) should get a win tonight!

DF1 you have mentioned that your coached at Pella High.  What sport did you coach?  Was it the cheer squad?

Yep. I coached the football, basketball and wrestling cheer squads. The other coach and I turned them from a stand and clap squad to a really athletic, stunting group of girls (and guys) that knew the games inside and out. Woo!
So, can you come back to Central and coach the current cheer squad.  Football isn't so bad, but the BB group could really use you.

Yeah, I did that for a semester after I had my coaching certification....

Exactly! I can't get anything out of our SID right now. The only things I've heard are from word of mouth and the Telegraph Herald.

Looks like Loras has finally settled on a quarterback, they only went through four or so to find one.  Vaugh Gesing should be taking snaps on Saturday for the Duhawks. He's a freshman from Waukon.

Also my boys at Loras TV plan on covering a little bit of the UD night game on Saturday and I think they'll feature the new stadium in an upcoming show.

Three Words:

John McCain, Baby!

Just when I thought there was nothing else we could find to disagree on...I find out you're a Republican! >:(

Take it easy, I'm not a republican, but it looks like they are the front runners. I'm going with Barrack because Obama singled me out personally when he was introducing Biden as his running mate, "...whether you're a guy in sitting in a bar in Cedar Rapids..."

I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!
