Actually, most people around here think the Rams will probably win tomorrow.  You won't start proving people wrong for another 2 weeks (if then).

Warthog,

Young Shanno says he'll make an effort to show up tomorrow.  Says that he has to be in the press box to help working the game at 12:30.

32 posters anticipate a Cornell victory. I'm not one of the "boys" but Saturday evening we'll be saying either (A) that we were right all along if you truly pull out a victory; or (B) How embarassing -- Cornell can't even beat Grinnell. It's be nice if we could respect the Rams after week 1 and choose A....

Cornell has much more to lose tomorrow that it wins with a victory.  After the last two years they have proven they can win outside the conference and no poster on the pickem board has picked Grinnell.  So if they do lose tomorrow they will be in trouble.

What IIAC teams have no out of conference losses over the last 2 seasons???  ;D

Hey WillieU or Keith45...will either of you be at the game tomorrow night???

Floyd in Iowa City

Floyd, the 04 St olaf game had some interesting stats. Sherden leads the team in tackles. Brant Rost (last years leading tackler) leads the team in rushing yards, followed by Rietsma, last years starting corner. I guess there is something to be said about putting the right pieces, in the right places.

That team was 6-4 and 5-3 in the IIAC, but it would have been fun to see what Sherden at RB and the 2004 defense could have done for a full season.  Still, it was very intertaining watching the Norse play those 5.5 games with him at RB (won the last 4 including Hefty's only win over the Dutch).

Schools are always moving players to other positions.  Rarely does it make the impact that it did for the Norse moving Sherden from DB to RB.  Rost was not a great RB, was all right at DB, but then he clearly found a home at LB last year for the Norse.

2004 was the tail of two seasons for both Luther and Buena Vista.  The St. Olaf game that year was almost a different game each half. ??? :o  It would be nice to pay them back some year. :)

Some year I would like to see Luther go 2-0 in the preseason, as they have been 1-1 the last four years.  The last time they were 2-0 in games that did not count in the conference standings was 2003.  The Iowa Conference teams only had one official nonconference game that year, but the Upper Iowa game did not count towards the league standings (that was the last year in the Iowa Conference for UIU).

I still remember that game as the Norse gave up an INT for a TD to fall behind 7-0, but then rattled off the next 47 points before shutting it down early in the 3rd quarter.  I never really respected Upper Iowa as an overall school that much (good in wrestling, good at times in baseball and basketball) when I was at Luther, so as far as I was concerned it was a fine way to send off a school that "was moving up" to Division II athletics in the Northern Sun.

Upper Iowa has gotten better in football (best sports are still wrestling and perhaps baseball), but it will be interesting to see how they hold up over the long haul with Mankato, UMD, and St. Cloud joining the Northern Sun.

The Upper Iowa stadium was much nicer than the old one, but it was a crummy (too small) visitor side for the typical Luther fan following.  I can't imagine how they would have gotten the Wartburg people in if UIU ever had a significant game with the Knights.

Not quite the same as Northwestern, MN...but still!!!

Are there any other teams in the IIAC who will video stream their games?  I won't be able to see some Luther games and wonder who else has picked up on the technology.

This weekend the Norse may be able to handle St. Olaf.  Both new coaches, Ole's have lost significant players, Luther thinks they have had a good preseason.  As I predicted on the "pickems' board", Luther by a field goal in OT.

You didn't ask about playoffs.   ;D ;D ;D  If you want to count playoffs as noncon then the Dutch are 8-3 over the last 3 years more noncons that any IIAC school :o :o :o

I am hoping that if Dubuque can't beat the Central curse this year the Spartans can at least beat the Connell curse and win at Redlands ;D
