Hey since I will be out in Cali for the Redlands/UD game I may not get the pickem results posted till Monday at the earliest.

Charlie that is funny stuff.  At least with Bullwinkle I will know what a moose is I still don't know what a kohawk is.   ;D ;D ;D ;D  Is that some kind of prairie chicken?   ;D ;D ;D
I think we can wait until Monday DF04. Thank you for your efforts.

As for the Kohawk, I have two answers:
The correct one, which is a derivative of the (American) Indian word ko, meaning "like", and hawk, the state bird. So, like a hawk (or, in good times, like THE Hawks).
Or my wife's favorite, a chickenhawk (think Foghorn Leghorn).

Which begs the question: what's a Duhawk? (I know the answer, but does anyone else?)

Duhawk was coined by a Detroit newspaper writer.  I could go on and on about Loras keeping this name.  But it would probably be because I was reminded once again this past weekend about the city of Dubuque and the Loras bias against UD that many of them have.  Which wouldn't really be fair because I have found some very nice Loras posters on this board that really don't represent what I continue to see anytime I visit Dubuque...I probably just always run into the wrong people!!!
See you Nov. 15?
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

Heard that a freshman lit up the JV game for central last night...a couple kick returns and some great catches...anything on him...from what I hear he could possibly play on the baseball team this year too

Where are you Heys.  My big weekend is coming up.  Are you still coming to the game Saturday night.  Looking forward to seeing my favorite QB and coach this weekend.  Hoping for selfish reasons that the IIAC (UD) loses a game.  Maybe that curse will still be in effect. What do you think Doolittle?

Oh come on now.  I mean I realize that you son is coaching the Redlands in all, but how about some love for the IIAC?  With all the talk earlier regarding SOS and overall conference perception why would you want to damage that even more?  In all honesty if my son was coaching against an IIAC I would be pulling for him as well.  Lets just hope its a good game either way!!! I think we will be there.  The Coe game wasn't oringally on our schedule of games to get to.  But the BV game won't work out now, nor will the Cornell game.  And my dad tells me he really wants to see the new place.

I'll let you know soon enough if we will be there.  Would be fun to meet you.

I think as long as Luther is leaving tradition behind we might as well see Central jump on that bandwagon.  Dress up the old Patriots helmet logo in a Dutch Boy outfit and slap that on the Dutch helmets!!!  Then watch this board explode with conversation  ;D

You just don't mess with a good thing.  When you got it right the first time, you leave it alone.  Then you can just sit back and watch the other teams try to figure out if changing the uniforms or helmuts will somehow help the cause.   :)

Rankings don't mean a darn thing with only one game contested.  I agree with DF04 that Central was probably ranked too high to begin with, given all the talent that graduated.  We have to prove ourselves first.  Who needs a high ranking putting pressure on the team this early in the season.  Besides, maybe a drop will get the team ready to go out and prove something in the next game.  Maybe we should drop again next week.   ;)

Truer words were never spoken.  I think that you have it exactly right about the uniforms and helmuts.  When you have perfection how do you make it better?   ;D ;D ;D

It will take something crazy...like losing 10 straight years to UD for the Central faithfull to think..."hey, we need to freshen things up around here, we should change up our uniforms"   :P

Thanks, good to hear.  He played some last Saturday and looked good.  His dad was here when Central won the DIII title.  Maybe history can repeat itself before he graduates.   :)

Fannosaurus Rex

I have been reading all of the talk about all of the talent Central lost and what an enigma the team is this year.  Then I look at the starting line ups from last Saturday's poll deflating 41 point shut out win and of the 22 starters I see 12 seniors, 1 junior, 8 sophs and a freshman.  I don't know what it takes to get a letter at Central but 3 guys have 3, 9 have 2, and 7 have 1, and 3 are virgin.  And that isn't even mentioning the kickers, and if you are a Central fan, you want to mention the kickers.  Gee Lakeland must be really awful for this pitiful bunch of mystery men to be able to squeak a win out against them!!!

And on the topic of uniforms, I know we are all trying to forget it, but there was the brief Central experiment back about ten or fifteen years ago with the red pants.  Shudder!!!

Apparently you get perfection by ripping off the Chicago Bears. ;D

Personally, I think we play better as underdogs. I'd prefer that teams out-rank us going into a game. There's nothing like the fire that a perception of disrespect starts.....

How often are the Dutch underdogs??? Once or twice per year???  Maybe every other year against Wartburg and maybe in a playoff game.  That notion works for the Hawkeyes...I can't see that happening too often to Central though.

By book making standards Central is rarely an underdog, and the first and only time I see them  being an underdog this season could be next week agains the Knights.  This is all depending upon how they play against Smogsburg of course.

I think dutchie is saying that far to many times we see posters calling out Central for eeking out wins and winning in a less than conventional manner.  Do not get me wrong, I hope Central finishes middle of the pack and the final conference standings see BV, followed by UD and Loras, I just do not see it happening this season!!!
