I think as long as Luther is leaving tradition behind we might as well see Central jump on that bandwagon.  Dress up the old Patriots helmet logo in a Dutch Boy outfit and slap that on the Dutch helmets!!!  Then watch this board explode with conversation  ;D

You just don't mess with a good thing.  When you got it right the first time, you leave it alone.  Then you can just sit back and watch the other teams try to figure out if changing the uniforms or helmuts will somehow help the cause.   :)

Rankings don't mean a darn thing with only one game contested.  I agree with DF04 that Central was probably ranked too high to begin with, given all the talent that graduated.  We have to prove ourselves first.  Who needs a high ranking putting pressure on the team this early in the season.  Besides, maybe a drop will get the team ready to go out and prove something in the next game.  Maybe we should drop again next week.   ;)

Personally, I think we play better as underdogs. I'd prefer that teams out-rank us going into a game. There's nothing like the fire that a perception of disrespect starts.....

How often are the Dutch underdogs??? Once or twice per year???  Maybe every other year against Wartburg and maybe in a playoff game.  That notion works for the Hawkeyes...I can't see that happening too often to Central though.

Guilty -- I was referring more to late and post season games, although dropping in the rankings works, too. Funny -- no matter how decent we are doing on any given season, posters always predict us to lose to Wartburg, and to finish behind them in the race. That's usually motivation enough!   ;)

Must be rough to consider 2nd or 3rd dissappointing  ;D

Well from your point of view and going through what UD has gone through I can see how you consider this.  Being Central and the tradition that they have created you do come to understand that Central plays for IIAC Championships.  That is their goal.  So when you don't get there and you are disappointed.

Sounds mighty arrogant doesn't it.   :-\  Then again, when history backs you up, 2nd or 3rd is disappointing.  There are lots of other sports where 2nd or 3rd would be a remarkable season at Central.  Football just isn't one of them.   ;)  First seems to fit about as well as our uniforms and helmets.   ;)

I think every school in the conference starts the season with one goal in mind.  To win the conference championship.  I do not see other teams in the conference saying oh well ho hum if we go 5-5 this year what a success.  5-5 to anyone but Cornell is falling short of the measuring stick, which is conference championship ring.

As it should be.  We have history on our side, but history doesn't win the games or the championship.  It may help bring in the players that can do that, but the players still have to perform and every team should have winning the conference as the first goal.

I completley agree.  You do have history and that bodes well for the future.  I can see what Central and Wartburg expect to win the conference title every season, just as the Yankees expect to win the wold serries every year.  Success is measured at the end of the season by many factors, but all start at the same point, which is being on top at the end.

Truer words were never spoken.  I think that you have it exactly right about the uniforms and helmuts.  When you have perfection how do you make it better?   ;D ;D ;D

Apparently you get perfection by ripping off the Chicago Bears. ;D

Traditions are inside the program and shape the way the program is lead.  That doesnt mean they win based upon tradition.  Notre Dame has quite the tradition but look at them now!!!
