I think as long as Luther is leaving tradition behind we might as well see Central jump on that bandwagon.  Dress up the old Patriots helmet logo in a Dutch Boy outfit and slap that on the Dutch helmets!!!  Then watch this board explode with conversation  ;D
You just don't mess with a good thing.  When you got it right the first time, you leave it alone.  Then you can just sit back and watch the other teams try to figure out if changing the uniforms or helmuts will somehow help the cause.   :)
Truer words were never spoken.  I think that you have it exactly right about the uniforms and helmuts.  When you have perfection how do you make it better?   ;D ;D ;D

Apparently you get perfection by ripping off the Chicago Bears. ;D

Who ripped of the U of Illinois for colors and the University of Chicago for  the "C" logo.

+k happy 100th
Thank you... I now have the confidence to go to the MIAC and still be in + territory for a couple of days. ;D ;D ;D

Carroll High does a decent job of "ripping off" the Bears...

Kind of like Waukee "ripped off" Wisconsin a few years ago?

how about IA State ripping off USC???

One day in an elementary school in Ames, IA, a teacher asks her class if the Iowa State Cyclones are their favorite football team. The whole class says yes, except for Little Jimmy.

The teacher asks, "What's your favorite football team Jimmy?"

Little Jimmy says, "The Iowa Hawkeyes "

The teacher asks, "Well, why is that?"

Little Jimmy says, "Well, my dad is a Hawkeye fan, my mom is a Hawkeye fan, I guess that makes me a Hawkeye fan."

The teacher angered by his reply says, "If your dad was a moron and your mom was an idiot what would that make you?"

Little Jimmy says, "Well, I guess that would make me an Iowa State fan."

....Luther uniforms, helmets, logo..

The helmets of the 50's were gold with a Norseman logo on  each side.  The change to white came gradually as they could afford to buy new ones.  Numbers on the helmets came later.
I have never cared for the current logo as was painted on the 50 yard line and is the Norse current logo.  It looks too much like a cartoon character of the comic page.  The U of Iowa changed its logo from a chicken hawk to its current logo.  Good change....shows more aggression.  Luther should do the same instead of being a comic character.

They just need to tweek it

Two State fans were walking in the forest one day. They saw a set of tracks and started arguing over what kind of tracks they were. The first State fan said, "I think they're deer tracks!" The second State fan said, "I think they're dog tracks!" Then the train hit them.

Hey since I will be out in Cali for the Redlands/UD game I may not get the pickem results posted till Monday at the earliest.

Charlie that is funny stuff.  At least with Bullwinkle I will know what a moose is I still don't know what a kohawk is.   ;D ;D ;D ;D  Is that some kind of prairie chicken?   ;D ;D ;D
I think we can wait until Monday DF04. Thank you for your efforts.

As for the Kohawk, I have two answers:
The correct one, which is a derivative of the (American) Indian word ko, meaning "like", and hawk, the state bird. So, like a hawk (or, in good times, like THE Hawks).
Or my wife's favorite, a chickenhawk (think Foghorn Leghorn).

Which begs the question: what's a Duhawk? (I know the answer, but does anyone else?)

Duhawk was coined by a Detroit newspaper writer.  I could go on and on about Loras keeping this name.  But it would probably be because I was reminded once again this past weekend about the city of Dubuque and the Loras bias against UD that many of them have.  Which wouldn't really be fair because I have found some very nice Loras posters on this board that really don't represent what I continue to see anytime I visit Dubuque...I probably just always run into the wrong people!!!

Sorry about you're recent bad encounter with some Loras faithful. We have a few pompous Chicago suburbanites wandering around, but please don't take it out on me haha.  The city of Dubuque isn't the easiest on Loras either.  We often get jilted for being the rich kids up on the hill that don't want to consort with the commoners.  I think the relationship between Loras and UD is getting better but you'll always have that riff between schools across the street from each other.

Whats a Duhawk? We always get that jeer from opposing fans. The best response we always had was "Better than you!" Although, when we played UW-Whitewater the fans were at a loss for words and responding the only thing they could..."Whats a Warhawk??"

I have pretty much never had problems with Loras students.  Especially the Loras posters on here have been very nice.  It is the old family Dubuque people that UD students have problems with.  Iowa and ISU fans can have playfull banter back and forth.  There are some Dubuque residents that once you mention UD, the conversation just stops, it's like they don't even acknowledge that you are still in the room and were just having a conversation with them.  It's hard to accuratly write about it.  It happened twice last weekend.  Once at a downtown shop and another time at a local winery.

I guess I could put it that Iowa and ISU fans might tell each other they don't like the other team.  Some Dubuque people just pretend you are suddenly invisible and aren't there.  I would prefer if they said they didn't like UD instead of pretending it doesn't exist.

Sorry for the downer...again, for the most part I have always got along great with Loras students...just not multi-generationsl Dubuquers.

Now that things have really turned around financially at UD, do you suppose the attitude might change?  At least for some people?

This is so touching -- I feel like I am witnessing history in the making. A Spartain and a Duhawk making friends publicly? Oh, it almost brings a tear to my eye, it's so beautiful.... ;)

I think for the average Dubuquer it has.  That crowd of 4,200 saturday wasn't all UD students and grads...there were a lot of Dubuque residents in attendance as well.  For me, I think it's the multi-generational, family has lived in Dubuque since the 1820's, either lives below the bluff or used to, type person that has the old attitude.  And I am not really expressing this correctly, but I would rather have an in-your-face type response of "I'm a Loras fan" Or, "I don't like UD" then what you often get which is a "I don't know anything about that" or just plain silence from them and literally the conversation is over and they don't even act like you are even in the room anymore.

I am sure that isn't the average Dubuque response anymore.  But it still happends more than I would like it to.

Anyways, I am looking forward to more IIAC football this weekend.  Looking at last year our conference went 10-8 in non-con play.  So we need to go 6-3 to close to get back to that.  And that wasn't even very good.  Lets get some wins!!!
