Pregame vs. Coe:

IF(?) we can neutralize the Coe defensive surge to a manageable degree AND keep Tommy Brightback (I know, spelling   :D  ) from taking over on returns and INT's

We have a shot.  We did last year, and Coe was better offensively.  TeKippe was held for 3.5 quarters, but he showed his experience and ability in the last half of the 4th quarter.  Coe does not have that safety net this year.

I don't see us coughing up 4 fumbles again this year...as long as it doesn't rain!  Short passes to the TE involve reduced risk of INT.

One can hope!   :)

I've figured it out. PH, Ash, Speed, and I should all get together and just coach.  PH will run the show with his motivation and over all direction.  Speed will showcase a fast hard hitting defensive scheme, while Ash and I will tailor our offense to the strengths of our athletes.  Automatic victories right there  ;)

I know I know, sounds good to me on paper though.  Hey it could happen  ;)

The only thing I like that Cornell did was get Bush more involved running and passing.  Outside of that it was nothing more than complete embarassment.  I know the offense needs to hang on to the ball more but the D did not show up to play in any way, shape, or form.  The two losses thus far from the Rams have not even been against quality teams.  For the first time I'm not looking forward to the Coe/Cornell game.

Well...I only listened on the internet.

But...the fumbles killed, 3 of 4 led DIRECTLY to TD's within 2 plays of the turnover.

So, yeah the defense needs to bow up when the offense fails.  But twice inside the 15 to come away empty for the offense, doesn't help take any pressure off the Defense.

This game could have been a 28-25 win IF the Offense closed the deal and scored with their opportunities....oh and didn't fumble the $#^%* football.

Can't abide by a situation where the defense can't get more than 1 "3 and out" per game.

Cornell has failed to keep a team under 355 yds of offense yet this year. (355 in wk 1, 579 in wk 2)  Turnovers ruined scoring drives I agree, but when a D is playing that dismal it doesn't matter what your offense does.  They have yet to keep a back under 100 yds and are giving up better than a 60% completion rate.  Unless they pick it up, this equals disaster for the Ram season.

Hence the Escort Service comment...    :(

Look,

I am as myopic as they come...but there is an IIAC win to be had here.

I'm going to sneak in here quick.
I see Auggie has live stats.
If anyone wants updates, I'll provide them. Let me know. Otherwise I will probably stay away from d3boards.com tonight.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

With the way we have lost the first two games, I just want us to play mistake free football.  I think we can win if just don't turn the ball over.  Thats all I'm asking for, no turnovers, then the wins will come.

Can you imagine how annoying I would be if Jr. went to Central or Wartburg?

I am glad that I won't ever have to find out.  More for the fact that that would mean he wouldn't be at Cornell....

And I wouldn't call you annoying, just enthused....

I know still two more games to go tonight, but I myself am already looking forward to next week.  Conference season starts and boy does the first week provide some great match-ups.

Wartburg-Central, Simpson-BV, Coe-Cornell.  I think all of these will be close fought games and all the games will show what each team is really about this year.  I know everyone has played games already and we already know things about each team, but we all know that the conference season is when we find out what our teams are about because it is much easier for us to grade our teams against foes we are familiar with.  It certainly is going to make for an exciting first week of the conference season.

Nothing wrong with the Kohawks that a game against Cornell won't fix. Still, two weeks in a row we've won the statistical battles, but lost the important ones -- turnovers and score. Feller set school records for completions (35) and attempts (56), but four INTs. GAC avoided Breitbach and Wilkens like the plague, which was probably wise.

Coe has to get more productivity out of its red zone offense. Can't settle for field goal (attempts) all the time. We've now scored two touchdowns on the year -- last week on a one-play, seven-yard "drive" after a Breitbach interception and today on a blocked punt return.

Take away GAC's 68-yard TD run in the fourth quarter and the Golden Gusties only managed 14 yards on 33 carries against the Kohawk D.

I have to applaud Coe for going for an aggressive non-con schedule. It's too bad that it didn't turn out better... I was hoping to see Coe rebound from the coaching shake up. Promoting someone from the staff shouldn't have been much of a shake up, though. Do the Coe faithful still view Staker as the right man for the job?

It'd be nice if Wartburg and UD could take care of business....

Congrats to Simpson and Loras for nice wins today. Anyone from Simpson able to give a decent run down of the game?

Tough losses around the rest of the conference. Does this do anything for perceptions of strength of the IIAC?

Yes! You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone at Coe that doesn't have faith in Staker.

FWIW, the last time Coe started 0-2 was 1990. They won their next 8 and were Midwest Conference champs.
