If Wartburg loses to Central I'm curious to know when the last time Wartburg had back to back losses?

October 1996, when they dropped back-to-back games to Loras and Simpson.  I wish I could take credit for knowing that off the top of my head, but it was in Wartburg's weekly release.  That was the last year in the B.W. Era (Before Willis).

ATTENTION TAILGATERS HEADED TO PELLA SATURDAY:  I have just mixed, and will have with me on Saturday, a bowl full of TheOne's famous pretzel dip.  The stuff is absolutely amazing and, assuming I don't eat most of it myself tomorrow, it will be present at the pregame festivities on Saturday.  So if you're scoring at home (or even if you're alone), that makes my menu for Saturday pretzel dip, beer (good stuff too), bean bag toss, blaring tunes (put together a nice pregame playlist for the mp3 player last night), and sparkling conversation.

All I have to say is Cornell sucks

Actually, Cornell swallows!

and Coe Sucks!  :D

That's how the saying goes.  We used to sell bumper stickers that said,
"Charlie says, Cornell Swallows."
in answer to the statement Coe sucks.
We sold those bumber stickers twenty years ago.

Go Kohawks!!!

I heard the actual vernacular was that Coe Blows!    :D

More sad news from the University of Dubuque.

Lisa Martin, a sophmore pre-nursing major was killed in an auto/motorcycle crash in Dubuque.  She was the captain of the UD dance team.  http://www.dbq.edu/

Prayers to Lisa and her family, Grant Vogt, who died last week, and Cory Alsip still recovering at Madison.  Also to the Luther goalie who broke her leg last week and is at the Mayo Clinic recovering her injuries.

Thankfully, sports can be used as a source of joy in our lives and also to help bring us together.
My prayers go out to all of the families, particularly Lisa's and Grant's.  College is supposed to be one of the best times of your life.  To lose your life in the midst of all of it is such a tragedy.  I think it hits the families even harder when the student has been away from home and suddenly they are gone.

My thoughts and prayers also to WH and his family.

Also if they lose, what does that do to their confidence?
It sends their confidence to the same place Central's was the year we ended up 5-5.  A lot of those games were so close that we could have won them, but unlike last year, the confidence didn't seem to be there.  The team was a very good team, just like last year, but they seemed to get thrown off by having to play that first conference game at SE Polk and things just snowballed from there.  Wartburg is a very good team too, but I wouldn't mind if they followed our example.   ;)

Lets see if any of the fellow Cornell posters can finish this little saying....If you can't go to college go to Coe...Coe Sucks!
Reminds me of the old days of "If you can't count to ten go to Penn!"  Come to think of it, a few weeks back there was discussion of who was Central's rival these days, Simpson or Wartburg.  Other schools have firm rivals, such as Luther-Wartburg, Coe-Cornell, Dubuque-Loras, but Central-Simpson just isn't that strong.  I think it is because in the olden days, it wasn't Central-Simpson, at least not on Central's part.  It was always Central-Penn that was the hot rivalry.  Oh, Central-Simpson heated up when they beat us in football a couple of times, but it never had that long standing tradition for the long time Central fans.  I think that is why some of us view it more as Wartburg and fans that became fans when Simpson was good in football see it as Simpson.  Oh there is a rivalry there, maybe more so on Simpson's part, but nothing like the old Penn days.  Still glad they are gone though.   :)

Open invite to anyone attending the BV-Simpson game: I will be tailgating at the northeast corner of the field (parking area north of visitor bleachers) this weekend.  Look for a white SUV or black pickup equipped with coolers and a grill.

Yore,
I heard a fat man, with patchy facial hair, a stained t-shirt and plenty of Grizzly mint might be there, he says he will bring the High Gravity if you bring the grey goose...And pizza rolls.  Ehhhhh...

Since Central is playing the Knights tomorrow, I thought I'd try for a little medieval humor.
The king has to go off on a royal junket.  The queen does not travel with him so he leaves her with his band of knights, Sir Wart, Sir Black and Sir Orange, aka The Evil Empire.  He doesn't trust them so he has the royal blacksmith fashion a pair of armored pantaloons to keep the queen chaste.  The king tells the Evil Empire, "If yon royal personage is sullied in mine royal absence, thy three heads be forfeit."  A couple of months later Sir Black remarks, "Her grace the queen seems to have added a royal pound or trey.  Pray tell me the royal tummy doth not wax maternal."  Sir Orange responds, "Alack, I have tidings both grievous and felicitous.  The grievous be, when the king returns and finds that the queenly womb has been sown with knightly seed, we like as not will lose our heads.  The felicitous tidings be, Sir Wart has invented the can opener."

The only thing medieval I know of is Ving Rhames in Pulp Fiction.
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

It should be a great day for IIAC football tomorrow.
Everyone have a good time and drive safely.
I'll be thinking of you all & checking in for occasional updates.
Remember these are a bunch of 18 to 21 year olds playing sports
These games aren't economic summits or UN meetings on terrorism.
Enjoy them for what they are.

WH e-mail me at my home address if you are able to discuss things in more detail.
