A bit of trivia on the eve of the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi:

Coe hasn't started out 0-2 since 1990. After losing to Wartburg 45-21 and Simpson 42-21, the 1990 Kohawks won eight straight for the Midwest Conference championship.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

More trivia (this one's good):

A winless Kohawk football team hasn't faced Cornell since 1970. After losing their first six, Coe lost to Cornell 3-2 (what a game!) before rebounding with three big wins to end the 10-year Glenn Drahn coaching era. Wayne "Phiz" Phillips assumed the helm in 1971.

Looks like I will watch my first video webcast tomorrow instead of being in Decorah for the Luther/UD game.  My brother-in-law and his family let us know this afternoon they are visiting tomorrow instead of the 27th when we had a birthday party planned for about 2 months.  So I have been told I will be over to my in-laws instead of having fun and taking our son to his first live football game.  >:(

Oh well, good luck to all the IIAC teams tomorrow and everybody have a safe day out.  Remember to have fun.
Thats to bad Doolittle, I was looking forward to meeting you and sending your son home with some Norse athletic wear. It's no wonder in-laws get a bad reputation. It looks like a shorts and sandles day tomorrow, I'll be the geek with the cammo baseball cap around the "hot dog stand" around 12:30. After the game, probably go to the Americana to eat and replenish any lost fluids. Hope to meet you oldNorse, LC, Floyd.

In 1966, Coe was 0-4 before getting its first win in a 16-0 beating of Cornell. The Kohawks went on to finish 3-5.

Cornell has yet to beat Coe in the 21st century! The series began in 1891.

The Coe-Cornell game hasn't been the third game of the year since 1953. The Dick Clausen coached Kohawks prevailed 41-14 en route to a 5-2-1 season.

This ends my research.

Was bored and decided to check out Cornell and Coes rosters. Cornell has 15 Iowa guys. Coe has 73 give or take a few...I started skimming it when the count got past 40. Cornell has 63 players total! That number is actually up from two years ago when I believe they had 51...and with injuries and some people quitting I think it was down further than that by the end of the season.

Ash Park

Cornell brought in 25 freshmen. In Dillons first year he only brought in 9.

Ash Park

The last time Cornell and Coe played this early it was in 1974.

Ash Park

Coe holds a 62-51-4 edge against the Rams in the all-time series, which dates back to an 82-0 Cornell victory in 1891.

Ash Park

Coe has won 8 in a row against Cornell. That is the longest winning streak in the series for either team.(Going by memory on this one, for some reason I couldn't open up the all-time scores tab on the Cornell website)

Ok so this will be my 300th post so I can stop being so post happy now  ;D

Good luck to all of the teams tomorrow except of course Coe! I hope everyone comes out injury free even Coe.

Is this really what you guys do for kicks on a Friday night?  That's a little sad.
