Wow... excellent game.  Must tell you, having moved to Oregon I haven't seen them play since they came to Linfield twice.  Fun to watch streaming video, and I thought the announcers did a great job.

Would love to see the IIAC get two teams in the playoffs... maybe these two?

Ed

Won't happen...blame thbe Kannigets game against the Auggies...again.

Warties need to win the IIAC to qualify, and they can afford to lose 1.  Even if the Dutch wins our from here it is a stretch to think they get in from 2nd place.

Although Bethel was losing to a better than good Carlelton team.

D3 seems to be up in the air this season after the top 3.

I don't know about that.  With SJU losing so early in the season and now Bethel losing for a second time the MIAC may only get one team in.  If Central can run the table like they did in 05 they can get a Pool C bid.  I don't see Wartburg stumbling twice to let the Dutch back in the AQ race but they could stumble and the Dutch could tie.

What's with the playoff talk? It's way too early in the season to worry about such things. Yep, it's totally still possible for the Dutch to dance. We have several weeks ahead of us to think about that, though.

It is early to talk but was responding to the no way from Purple Heys.  With the topsy turvy MIAC there is a posibility now that Wartburg's loss won't hurt the IIAC as badly now.  The Dutch have 8 games left and they have to take care of business.  There are no gimmes in the IIAC so the Dutch must play their way to get consideration.  That was my point.  No invitations have been passed out yet and it is to early to count teams out as well.

Maybe so...but now there is an auto qualifier from the NWC and 2 loss teams from other than the WIAC or OAC or MIAC are tougher sells.

Central WILL have to win out from here to get a sniff.

The win today by the Kaniggets, gives them an effective 2 game lead over the Dutch.

Other games notwithstanding...it is early after all.

Pat, you are welcome in Pella anytime, but could you stay away from the football field???    ;D

Hope you enjoyed the trip and the weather along with a great football game that went down to the wire.  Could have used one more field goal at the end to make it a real Dutch treat, but it wasn't to be.

What a beautiful day in Mount Vernon.  The Kohawks looked good, and we are off on the right foot for the IIAC season.  I sat on top of my Jeep all day just beyond the west end zone.  Listened to Jerry and Thurney call the game and was pleasantly surprised to hear my old friend Eric Oliver perform his duties as side line reporter for the KFAN.  Had many fun nights down at the Paradise Club and Coopacabana with Eric, Percy and Wendy Dunn's brother in-law.  I'd love to have another dumpster party sometime, maybe we can call up Sammy too.

Thanks for the great day, the only part that sucked is when a current Coe student asked me if I had a son playing.  My son is only six, do I look that bad?

Can't wait for the alumni swim meet next weekend during homecoming.
Go Kohawks !!!!
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Old Dutch

Excellent contest in Pella today.  Neither team had enough running game to be considered a lock to run the table, especially after some topsy turvy IIAC games (to me, 1-3 in the pick'ems).   16 of 40 passing won't get much done against anyone, but after the poor start it seemed Bandow got it together.  It would be awesome if the Dutch could get Lackey on offense every play, but with the loss of Baethke at corner, defensive depth took a major hit.

Congrats to Luther and BV on the wins.

Hey Cochuck,

Good to see you today in Mt Vernon.  Great brats and whatever it was you had in that ......!  Coe looked good today but looks soft on the o-line.   They seemed tired in the 2nd half.  Your offense moved the ball but the Rams lost to Grinnell.    They also seem to be light at one d-line spot.  And on another note, your secondary is very suspect,  it  appeared that no one wants to hit anyone.    I expected to see much more of this stellar defense you keep talking about.  Great d-ends and LBs though.   As far as the rams........here comes 0-10.   Too bad for the Cornell players that the college doesn't put more into the program.   It just seemed that most of them quit after the first quarter.   After touring most of the other colleges over the past two years, that place is run down.   No wonder they only have 58 guys on the roster.   Those guys have some work to do.  I imagine Dillion will be gone.

Congrats to the Knights!   That Augsburg loss has to hurt though.   What is it with Willis?  Dubuque losing to Luther, that one has to be an upset.  I thought that the Spartans were out one of the top teams in the IIAC.  And BV, great win over the Storm.

Missed seeing SK and the other Knight posters. I rolled into town a bit later than I wanted. Klompen, it was great seeing you! Also saw DF2004 from afar.

Peace Lutheran was the place to be for Wartburg fans.  A bunch of us even hung out there for a while postgame (you gotta savor a win like today).  Great orange crowd on hand in enemy territory today and they were definitely treated to a good one.

16-10 WB beg of 4th.   I really hope this doesn't come down to wb missing the extra point after their 1st TD.

SK, I have to leave and won't have access to internet, can you send me updates?

what's your #?

Sorry, Devine, I was at the game and wasn't checking the board.  Walston basically put me on speakerphone for the last minute so he and all his fellow Wartburg alum in-laws could find out how things went.  If we could have gotten you in on the conference call that probably would have worked.   ;D  Next time, call my cousin and he'll be able to give you my number.

Great win today by the Knights.  They played far from perfectly, but getting out to an early lead helped out.  Good to see Herzberg knock that FG home after missing last week in Mpls.  Both teams looked pretty good today, but do have some weaknesses.  Looked like Wartburg cleaned up some of the tackling issues in the secondary that I was during the St. Norbert game, and a good push from the front four helped too.

I'd be lying if I told you it wasn't nice to be in Pella without having to act like I wanted Central to win. ;)  That said, it was nice to see some of the Dutch faithful that were good to me when I worked down in Pella, including DF2004, Dutch Radio, AD Al Dorenkap, and Coach McMartin.  Caught him after the game and while he was pretty down about the loss, seemed pretty up about Central's chances the rest of the way.  He did mention that back-to-back road games the next two weeks won't be easy, and I can't say I disagree with him.

Another wild day in the IIAC...

Wart steps up and Central runs out of miracles.

BV in a minor surprise (to me)

Luther shocks.

Coe still blows  (nice win though)

Well the shocking wasn't all that much.  Luther didn't "Shock the World" as Jesse Ventura shouted when he won the Minnesota governorship some years ago.  While I did pick Dubuque to win I did so because I thought DU had the same team as the last two years.....it doesn't.  (Sorry Doolittle that you couldn't come to LutherLand).

Luther's DLine played well since UD's offense was not as fast, did not open the middle and did not have Jamar.  Dubuque's QB Hanson releases quickly but did not run much which helped the Norse.  Luther's secondary played better than I have seen in the past several years but that is not saying much either.

All in all I would say this was a defeat for Dubguque more than a victory for Luther in terms of dominance.  Luther will win more game(s) however.

The surprise of the day were the refs.  They did not seem to be able to call the action when needed and over and over again had to confer about decisions.  At one point,  one ref signalled a bobbeled ball, a drop and then a touchdown for Dubuque.

Both teams need to get and will "work on stuff".........refs too.

....SimpsonSID...don't just be a "lurker".  Say something.

Sorry to miss out on meeting you oldNorse.  You have some good observations of the game.  From the bit of the game that I was able to see on the computer, it seemed like neither team wanted to win the game.  Then in the 4th quarter it seemed like the Norse said to themselves "it might as well be us"  I think UD ended with 5 turnovers and the Norse had 3.  Both teams have some kinks to work out.  Dubuque doesn't seem too motivated to me.  Seemed to be running through the motions a bit and never seemed too fired up...at least on offense.  I think Dubuque will get some wins this year and might be able to surprise a team or two.  I doubt they will be fighting it out for a top 3 spot this season.  Which is a dissapointment.  Luther seemed to get better and gain confidence as the game went on.  That confidence you could see them gain as the game went on should help them as their season progresses.  Good luck to the Norse the rest of the season.

As in the State in the land of Dixie.  The over seas players on the UD roster are children of US service members.

I think the Kohawks are ready.  Those two tough non-conference games were great tune-ups for the IIAC season.  They should be very confident that they can beat anyone in the conference.

Cornell will win a confernence game this year.

Impressive win for the Beavers today.  I wasn't surprised that they won, but I was a bit surprised at the points they put up on the board!
