Sounds like the rams fought their a$$es off today. I am also proud of them for not packing it in after 3 straight losses...keep fighting. It sounds like they are so close so keep fighting rams. I'm glad to hear that the wing-t maybe gone...although I think they still need to utilize one of the best backs in the league in Tra...without the wing-t though ;D

I agree...they need to get him touches on the edge...they tried a couple of times/

I see them working more toward that.

It's not too dificult to turn grown men into little boys...just mention Trojans and Beavers ;D

My wife had an interesting insight today.  She told me she hopes our son plays defense some day.  Because she would rather see him hitting people than taking hits.  At this point I would say I would have to agree with her.

So does Heys Rev. 3 go with you to some games next year during Heys Jrs' senior season to start the early recruiting???  Or do you wait until he is older???

I already got a pitch in for the Dutch for Heys3.  Told him that he could rub in into Heys jr about the IIAC championships he won at Central?   ;D ;D ;D ;D  Just jokingly said that.  The important thing at the d3 level is the degree and set yourself up for a good paying carreer.

That's a good question...Rev. 3 won't be making any trips to the Iowa this year after catching the Homecoming games vs. DBQ and Central over the last 2 years.

He's got his own Freshman games to attend to at VHS.

He's also much more clued into the process having watched the recruitment for both big bro and big sis...

We'll have to wait until he really starts growing to see where it takes him.  He is also a basketball and baseball player.

His feet are already bigger than mine, so we hope to see him approach his brother's size...

I will also say this...Rev. 3 knows very well the pecking order in IIAC football and he also knows a thing or two about the venues and the quality of venues at Dubuque and Luther, as well as at Wartburg.  We're Presbyterian, too.   ;D

BTW...the Johnnies know of him too...   ;)

Don't forget about the pitch I made at Redlands for him!!!!!!!!!

I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Heys, be proud of your son. He is a heck of a ballplayer.

The bottom line is that Cornell threw evreyting they had at Wartburg, the Knights played like crap, and they still won by 23. I will agree thet a couple of plays the other way and it's a 7 point game.
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

Outside the Crate

It appeared to me that Cornell is an improved ballclub, but (1) two successful goal line stands in the second half by Wartburg's defense and one blocked field goal, and (2) two fourth quarter interceptions of the "at times unstoppable Bush" really left little doubt about the still-wide gap in talent.

Cornell brought no more than 75 fans.  I was so disappointed, I counted them.  I don't know which comes first, but they are going have to have more support to get this thing turned around.  Cornell has some good players, and they deserve support.  Perhaps their new athletic director will provide the needed leadership and get them a boost.

Wartburg also hosted their 1958 and 1968 conference championship football teams.  They got a good turnout of players and coaches from those teams -- and from all over the country.  It was impressive, I thought.

evidently i need to start officitating games as bad as things sound out there.  I really enjoyed doing HS basketball  for 3 years while in college but with moving every year from state to state never got into football.

I do agree with walston though, it's all about being in position.  if you're out of position, you can't make a good/right call.   I would love to be a back judge. (the free safety of officials)

Walston, are you seeing younger guys doing HS games or is it 50 some year old's trying to run around?
what about the guys doing the IIAC games?

The Gazette wrote a pretty accurate story on the Coe-Loras debacle, although I don't know where that attendance figure came from. There were a lot of people there, but no where near 5,535.

Lesson:  Still hate losing.  Statistics tell nothing.  Final score tells all.  Wartburg knows how to win.  Cornell still needs to learn.

Bright spot:  We have seen the enemy and he is us.  Let's solve that turnover bug and win some games.

Over 5000 people at Coe means at least 10 deep, shoulder-to-shoulder around the field.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

I would say a bulk of the guys we have doing our games are in the 45-55 range.
Very few young guys reffing.
A couple of coaches I work with and I have talked about how if this coaching thing ever goes south, we are going to start officiating. MUCH better pay for the hours worked.
At the lower level games, (Frosh, JV and such) we seem to get a mix of guys that are either retired and looking for something to do and guys that are too young and lack the testicular fortitude to even blow their whistle, let alone throw a flag.
The last 2 weeks, we've had crews at the younger levels that the average age is probably just under 40, and you wouldn't even know the guys were there. That's the way officiating should be.

The most accurate statement in the article is from the Coe DE who said that they had three penalties on the drive and they shouldn't have even been in that situation.  Sad that the player gets it and the coach doesn't.  As for the AD, he was over on the sideline yelling about a roughing the passer penalty.  He thought that since the ball was tipped, there couldn't be a roughing the passer penalty.  The sad thing is he got the coaching staff to believe it, and they started yelling the same thing.  Tipped balls come into play on pass interference, but have nothing to do with roughing the passer!

If you want to keep complaining about the end of the game, how about a delay of game on the Coe players for not getting off the ball and letting it get set!

Something tells me we are going to see attendance counts up almost everywhere in the IIAC this year.  Whether that has anything to do with reality, I don't know (Coe/Loras).  IIAC SIDs' might just be trying to play keep up with the Jones'.  It would be easy for me to believe though, if Joe Average...especially with recent economic news...decides that an afternoon out with the entire family at an IIAC game and spending less money to do so than if just he and the Mrs. were at an Iowa or ISU game suddenly becomes a popular move.
