Congrats to the victors over the weekend. They don't put descriptive words behind the numbers in the standings. Ugly, uninspired, controversial all count as 1-0.
It is starting to look like there could be a big log jam in the middle this year.

Wasn't around a computer this weekend, so lots of reading to do today.

Heys, thanks for the laughs, you have some great one-liners.

DF1, didn't make the game, or even hear much of it, but I would say the long trip on Friday took a lot out of the team.  Unlike Dubuque when the went to Redlands, we didn't leave until Friday morning and it would have been a long haul.  Plus, I think both Central and WB were off their games a bit this week because of last week's game.  I think both teams gave everything they had this week, and I'm with WH, that tends to lead to a let down, but I see it for both teams.  Finally, I didn't catch exactly what happened with the safety when we were punting out of the end zone, but watching the WB game where every snap went to the ground, we have got to find a long snapper that can get the ball right where it needs to be, in Brondyke's hands and mid-body.  I read that as of mid-week we had no game film on Albion, so if they didn't provide it, as other schools have faced this year, it is hard to know what to prepare for.

I understand the idea is you want to win the game.  And if it isn't in the contract then tough cookies.  But for me, I would want to win games with some integrity, and not because I resorted to not trading game film.  These kids are still learning their morals...not trading game film isn't the best example to be setting in my mind.  But I am probably in the minority on this.
I'm with you on the integrity bit Doolittle.  I guess you could say you have integrity if it isn't in the contract, because you did what was required, but I would lose a lot of respect for my team if they were doing that.  I suspect Albion had our game film, but we didn't get any.  That could even things up really fast between teams of anticipated differing abilities and it could tilt things entirely to one side if the team not sharing is the anticipated better team.

I have audio/video evidence that Loras got the snap off in time.

Excellent, I look forward to putting all the questions to rest.

When will you be posting your audio/video evidence of Loras getting the ball snapped in time, while everyone was set?
If this video is the evidence, then it is definately not going to prove anything. Both the video and audio posted are poor at best, and without the scoreboard in the shot, there is no way to verify that the snap was made in time.

I do not know if game films were exchanged for Central VS Albion.
I know the std. practice is YES both teams do so. I would expect it did happen. Albion has always been above board on the reputation and history of program. Tough last couple years but a long history of success.

I attended the game, great game, both defenses were good.
Albion defense has been solid all year, the issue had been the short cross and screen passes, the defense addressed the issue by a tighter more challenging man on man defense. The other change was Albion started a different QB who was getting his first start at Albion though he has played d1 a few years ago prior to an injury and a family crisis that required a move back to Michigan last year, he sat and has now learned the system with a month of practice in program.

Central traveled well with good crowd for a game 8-9 hours from home.
All the offense was in the first half. Central hit a long sideline route that made the score 13-7 Albion came back with a safety on a blocked punt and a FG late in 1st half.  2nd half both teams had opportunites but defenses stepped up and held each other in check. Big Oline for Central controlled the pass rush, and allowed some running room on the left side.

Do not let Albion's record decieve you, the team is improving quickly as the young starters get comfortable and a few player changes continue.

Have a good, Season hope this is a home and home series and we can visit next fall.

Was there an earthquake in Cedar Rapids as the last play happened?  Hold the frickin' camera steady.

Regardless of what happened on the last play, there are four words that spell why Coe didn't win that game:

3rd Down and Twenty.

If the Coe defense gets a stop there, the ball game is over and Loras doesn't have a chance to go the rest of the field and score.

Here's a poll question for this week.
Which of the following starts to the conference season is most surprising:
BV starting 2-0
Coe starting 0-2
Dubuque starting 0-2?

OBVIOUSLY NOT B - Coe is 1-1
I'd say C

Latest Poll - D3 football
Wartburg up 1, Central down 1.

http://www.d3football.com/top25/2008/week-4
That's probably fair.  Central won, but not easily.  Albion gave us a good game, I bet their homecoming crowd felt a lot like ours last week, fantastic game, just not the desired result.

Dsquared

So... I don't deny Central and Wartburg earning places in the Top 25... but where is Augsburg at?  They've defeated a top-25 team and are still undefeated after a W over St. Olaf.

Another ugly weekend in IC that I just experienced.  Stanzi has definitely earned his spot as the #1 guy with the Hawks... as long as the rest of the team can hold onto the ball, the Hawks MIGHT be able to squeeze out 3 more wins to become bowl eligible.

Thanks for the update D306.  Game films may well have been exchanged, I was just going by a statement in the press release that said they had not yet seen them, it could be that they came later.

Glad to hear that you are improving quickly and that you had a D1 QB transfer, he had great passing stats.  Plus, most were picking Central for the easy win, so to hear that you are better than your record is good news for Central fans.  We are rebuilding and it is hard to really know how good we are.  I'm not surprised that the defenses looked good, I think our defense has come together faster than the offense where we are still answering some questions and learning.

I'm curious what happened on the safety that the punt was blocked.  We tend to believe Brondyke is an exceptional punter so was it a low or high snap, missed coverage, or did Brondyke wait too long?  Heads-up play that he kept it from being a game winning TD.

Teams with a strong football history always scare me, because they never seem down for long.  Good luck with the rest of your season, well except maybe when you play Hope.  They are a sister school to Central.  We played both Hope and Olivet last year.  It's been a nice conference match up.  Hope you get to come our way next year, though I read somewhere it was a one year deal.  Then again, you can't believe everything you read.   ;)

Kohawk Remedy

I decided I would wait until I calmed down from Saturday's Coe vs Loras game to write my thoughts, so that there wouldn't be so many f-bombs in my posts  ;D.  I don't think I have ever seen or been part of a game where the refs have taken the game away from another team (maybe the Iowa capital one bowl where the refs called offsides on the onside kick)!  In the first half I knew it was going to be bad when the Loras QB threw a pass under pressure that could have been called 2 ways. 1.)Lateral...the ball was thrown behind the line of scrimmage so therefore it should be classified as a fumble and 2.) if you don't call it a fumble it should be called as intentional grounding because there wasn't a single Loras WR around the ball, just the Coe sideline.  I couldn't believe that nothing was called!  As far as the personal fouls on the last drive I wasn't in the right spot to see the plays, HOWEVER I was there on the sideline of the endzone where Loras scored their touchdown AFTER the clock had turned to zeroes.  I was watching the clock and the Loras offense the whole time and when I saw the clock go to zeroes I looked at the offense and they HAD NOT snapped the ball yet.  I'm not sure which ref is supposed to be looking at it, but I could not believe they called the touchdown.  The only thing I can say is...I wish we had a louder buzzer on our scoreboard so that the refs would have heard it over the yelling, or if they would have only been paying a little more attention.  To see the players and coaches faces after the game was heart breaking because Coe shouldn't have had the game taken for them.

du-sz

Here is my actual video, I'm not sure who shot that other one. The vid shows a couple plays near the end of the game. On the last play you can see everyone come set, then crowd noise, then snap, then buzzer, then TD. It is hard to hear that weird buzzer of theirs, but it is there after the snap. It is a real bang-bang sequence and probably could have gone either way, but I think the refs actually got it right.
