Hey so does this mean that Coe fans are cheering for Cornell this weekend when the Rams take on Loras?? ;D

DutchFan2004

I will say that the people around the camera were stating that they won't get the play off.  So it is possible that they didn't

If it can be proved to the IIAC that the refs blew the call then IMHO the crew should suffer a suspension.

Purple I will have to disagree with you when the Wartburg announcer's were talking about the crowd from Cornell. I don't believe they were making fun of Cornell or blaming the players as they said it was a shame that not more people came to the game to support  a good team meaning Cornell. That was my take of the comment.

Maybe I'm a little sensitive, be they seemed, to me, to be making light of a situation that is really Purple....err...Apples to Oranges when comparing Wartburg attendance to Cornell.

No doubt thousands travel from Waverly to watch the games when contested at Ash Park...   ;)

Year in and year out Wartburg does bring a large contingent of fans hit the road. I'd say the number of Wart fans on the road the rivals the amount of Central fans.

Last year Cornell's largest home game attendance WAS Wartburg.

Many factors go in to how a school travels.

1. Cornell has the smallest enrollment in the IIAC
2. Cornells 1 course at a time means every 3 1/2 weeks the students are moving on to their next class.  Meaning Saturdays they might HAVE a class or figure they better be spending that day studying.
3. Of a roster of approximately 65, probably 50 are from out of state.  Not many family members will be making the trip to see their son play.
4. Mt. Vernon has the smallest population of any IIAC town.
5. The Rams have gone 2-30 over the last 4 seasons in conference play.  That doesn't necessarily get one in the mood to pack up the car with tailgating supplies and head across Iowa to see your team play.
6. How many away fans sit on the home side during games because they are closer to concessions and bathrooms???

I know things have changed since I was in school many moons ago and Dubuque is pretty far away for most schools.  But back then Central was the only school that brought a noticable contigant of travelling fans.  And that was when they were only a few years removed from a Stagg Bowl appearance or two.  Coe and Cornell weren't in the conference then.  Luther, UIU, Wartburg and of course Loras were the only somewhat close schools and they never brought a ton of fans...even Loras didn't bring a sizable crowd with them for some reason.

I have a feeling any IIAC school would struggle to bring a sizable number of fans to an away game if they were to swap won/loss records with Cornell from the last 5 seasons.

Doolittle you can speak to this as well.  Doesn't UD have some of that same trouble.  They have many players that are from out of town and some great distances.

Klop mentioned it earlier, a decent amount of your travelling base is parents of current players or parents of former players(DF2K4).  Central and Wartburg each have over 100 Iowa kids on their rosters.  That will translate into butts in seats across our state.  Unless Purple Heys becomes Jed Clampett he won't be making more than 1 or 2 games per year to see his son play...and those will probably be home games...not that road tripping to Storm Lake or Waverly isn't one of his life goals.  Dubuque and Cornell each have under 20 Iowa kids on their rosters, that won't translate into great road attendance.  Factor in winning as well.  Judging by the silence from Wartburg Nation on this board after their loss to Augsburg and the week leading up to the Central game.  If the Knights win 2 conference games over the next 4 seasons I suspect you wouldn't see 200-300 Wartburg fans at every conference away game.

I think Coe will be cheering for all the teams playing Loras this year.  The old saying who do you root for Coe and any one that plays Loras comes to mind.

I agree with your post Doolittle.  The one thing I think that is over looked is the support of the Pella Natives.  They turn out for the road games pretty well too.  With the winning tradition that the Dutch have the get support to away games.  If the game had not been in Michigan and Mrs DF2k4 didn't have to work on last Friday we may have attended the game last week.

I want to reiterate though that if they would have played with some discipline and up to their capabilities they would have never have been in that situation.
This discipline rap is crap. On the "touchdown" drive alone, I can't even type. All judgment calls. By refs who had demonstrated poor judgment all day -- both ways. Many of them very poor judgments -- like the lateral/grounding call that resulted in a Coe bench penalty! I think the Coe INT was good, and I was right there, but I'll gladly trade it for the time-expired snap.

Dubuque certainly doesn't get support from the city like Central or Wartburg would get.  Most Dubuquers will act like they are unaware that UD even exists.

I was looking at my email address book.  I have 36 UD friends in there.  2 couples live in Dubuque, 2 couples in Cedar Rapids, 1 couple in Tripoli.  There are a handfull between Chicago and Bloomington, IL.  Most have moved far away.  They won't be making games.  It never occurred to me how the other conference schools fair in keeping their alumni somewhat close after graduation.  That could help as well.

All this talk about referee's "screwing" teams out of wins makes me think about other past instances of such occurances, first one comes to mind is the infamous 5th down in the Missouri vs Colorado game.   Any others come to mind, and can anyone think of a time when the officials seemingly tried to give the game to a team but a team still stopped them anyways?

And why is oil $95 a barrel and I am still paying over $4.00 per gallon in Chicago?  When oil hit over $120 a barrel I was paying close to the same price :-\

I will leave this for someone to give a conviluted answer regarding supply/demand and the cost to refine :-*

Not to rub it in but we are down to 3.29 for E10.  Can't buy E85 in town here but last time I filled up with E85 it was 2.51.

Did anyone ever think they would be happy to find gas at $3.29?

congrats, it shows the last play... it doesnt show the time, which is what i was saying.  there was no tape of the final play with the clock showing.  if you have it, why not show it?  is it because you dont want people to see what really happened?
i know that this doenst make a difference, but it's terrible that these refs won't be disciplined, and have the chance to screw over another team.  am i bitter? or pissed? sure am.  i am not the only one.  every coe fan and player is pissed about this.  everyone else would be to.  you can't say you wouldnt be.  i hope it comes back to bite loras, by the same refs.  i was with plenty of loras people that said the clock had expired.  there is no way in hell that you can hear the buzzer go off, dont kid yourself.  call me bitter or whatever you want, but i just hate to see a win taken out of players hands.  yeah they shouldnt have been in that situation, you can say that, but they stopped them when it matters, and 60 minutes had been up, and the game should have been over.  they stuffed them on the final play of the game.
Amen, brother! This isn't sour grapes, it was robbery. I'm still hoarse and it wasn't from cheering. I was near the officials as they left the field and, like everyone in the house, was voicing my displeasure. One of them lunged toward me and yelled, "Why don't you do it?" Granted, it was an ugly scene. By reacting, this crew only made a bad situation worse. A suspension seems in order, but I'd settle for never having this group officiate another Coe game, home or away, ever.

Time to move on already.  I agree the tape doesn't show conclusively either way.  There were plenty of people at the game who thought the snap did get off in time.  Mcgrew took the snap in the shotgun, so anyone who was looking at McGrew missed a half second from when the ball is moving until it gets to him.

So, according to your logic, because you think the refs screwed up you hope it comes back to bite Loras?

E85 is garbage anyways.. when you compare it to the milage, it is like buying regular gas for 4 bucks, it is just nicer to get the perception that you are spending less on gas

WHen I fill up it is a wash. Get about 80% of the mileage of 89 octane with it and it is usually about 75% of the cost.

Doolittle made a comment about Wartburg fans abandoning the board after the loss to the Auggies-
Wartburg fans have been very thin on here since the beginning of summer with the exception of Saturdays to catch updates. If you went back, you may see a slight downtick in # of posts by Wartburg fans, but it wasn't much less than any other week.
It used to seem like there was more of us on here, and there may have been, but there was also far less posters from other schools so it seemed like we dominated the conversation more.
I know haven't posted the last 6 months nearly as much as I used to.
Devine is only here on Saturdays.
SK is pretty regular
Warthog is hit and miss
knightfan06 is off during the season
Dsquared finally showed up after a several month hiatus
Neumann is a regular
footballdaddy and Wartburg fan surprise us when they post.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

That is a pretty fair assessment.  I'll buy that logic.

I do think it's hard to comment on travelling support though.  There are many factors that go into it.  Size of enrollments, size of the town the school is located, how near to a school like Iowa the school is, won/loss record, the number of Iowans...both on the team and as a part of the student body all come into play.

Now, I hope Dubuque is able to heal up and get their offense in sync during their off-week and be able to give Central a good game on the 11th.
