Congrats to BV, sounds like you took it to the Knights.  I wouldn't start thowing dirt on the Knights just yet. We've lost two games to teams with a combined record of 8-1. But if we don't start playing to our potential immeiately, we will be a write-off by season's end.

Heys, any updates on .JR?

Footballdaddy: you didn't make it to the game this week?  If you want to call it a game

Sorry Central fans if the video streaming didn't work as well as had ben expected.  Hope you saw part of the game at least.....it was a great game from the Norse point of view.

IMHO the turning point was the blocked field goal and then a bit later the INT for a 99 yd TD.  Luther's D line played well as expected but the real focus was the O-line taking the right steps.  Must have worked on steps all week because steps were the problem against Simpson. QB looked good because of the O-line.

I had picked Central but happy to have lost the picks but win the game.

Dutch are going to be fearsome next year but it injects some energy into the conference schools to have it topsy-turvy this year.
The video streaming worked just fine for me.  I got to see every miserable minute.   :'( :'( :'(  But it made for a great Norse homecoming and you guys deserved it, just wish it had not come compliments of us!

The field goal block started the turn, but the Pick 6 sealed it.  Had Central scored those points and gone up 17-6 it would have taken the wind out of the Norse ship sails.  But great job by the Norse they wanted it and they went after it for the full 60 minutes.  This is a game unlike past years.  Central did not appear to show up for the game and they did not play a full 60 minutes.  Give credit to the Norse, you made us give up.  This was not a find a way kind of game that we have seen from Central in the past.  Luther just played great offense and defense and the outcome reflected it.  Maybe our punt team should have played the whole game.   :)

I agree it does inject energy into the conference.  I'm sure we will see more fans from other schools jumping on the boards now that things are all shook up.  Central football players get Thanksgiving off this year.  I'm still in 100% Dutch support mode, but as long as you aren't playing us, I will be pulling for the upstarts this year.

Luther fans, you have a great start to an upward swing with Reynolds at QB.  I have always been proud of Central's coaching staff and their ability to made adjustments, but we could not find an answer for stopping Reynolds and we sure couldn't get our own offense going.  Sportsknight accused me of underestimating my Dutch after we played WB.  I think I saw my Dutch realistically for all that we lost last year.

Well the poll results were at least half wrong.  WB did not run the table, so now it's time to see if Cornell can beat a top tier team.  After yesterday, and given that they have already played WB, I would be worried about them beating us to completely nullify the poll results.  But since, at the moment we are not a top tier team, I guess we aren't the team that needs to worry about that.   ;)  After yesterday, I am worried about every game though.  Not blaming Bandow, he is young and will improve, but Snead would have been a nice option.

Thank you SEP, I heard a lot of the names Wilkin and Wong yesterday.  Could you transfer in the rest of your team for next year???    ;D ;D ;D

Boy, the Knights ought to start lobbying to have their bye week on the first weekend of October.  Loss at BV this year, loss at Augsburg last year, loss at home vs. Loras in '04...not a great track record.

I wouldn't give up on these Knights yet, though.  While they don't control their own desitiny at this point, they do host Loras in two weeks, while the Duhawks still have to go to Central, deal with the cross-town rivalry, and face off against Simpson.  BV still has games with Coe, Central, and both teams from Dubuque.  Not to mention the big showdown between the two of them this Saturday.  It'd be in Wartburg's best interest for Loras to beat BV and hope BV loses somewhere else down the line.  So for at least the next seven days, call me a Duhawk fan.  Now excuse me while I go dry heave for a while.

Congratulations to all the winners yesterday and especially the Beavers!!!  Outstanding performance in front of the Homecoming crowd.  What a way to kick off the rest of the season.  I am sure emotions are running high in the coaches meetings this morning.  Funny that we talked so much about Peary not throwing an interception and then he throws 2 in one game.  Glad to see that did not cost the Beavers.  Nice to see senior making big contributions yesterday such as Ben Chuckuske on the defensive line.  I hope this is a fun team to watch as the season progresses.  I am not where near ready to hail them them the class of the IIAC.  They still have Central, Luther, Loras, and Coe on the schedule.  It can be done and I am hoping that it will be done.  Next weekend is a huge game for the men.  Loras is playing well and its at their house against the old coach.  I am sure emotions will be running high again.  Goodluck Beavers and keep up the good work.

On a side note, I am a bit surprised to see the outcome of the Luther vs. Central game.  Congratulations to the Norse.  What a great win for a first year coach.

Mr. Ypsi

If you look at the chart more closely, you'll see that +2 teams only went 4-5.  +3 or +4 went 7-0.  +3, not +2, seems to be the Holy Grail for defenses.

Luther did a great job on the Dutch yesterday.  You earned that victory all the way.  Congrats on the big win.

Hopefully the Dutch can come back and get a win this weekend against the Spartans.  Go Dutch I haven't lost faith yet.  You can regroup and learn from this.

I think you mean Wartburg vs. Cornell, since the Knights and the Kohawks don't meet until Saturday.

I wonder how Coe fans will take your confusing the two teams.   :o

I didn't want to be accused of hiding after a loss, but with a THursday game against Urbandale coming up and my daughter's baptism its been a very busy weekend. Actually didn't find out about Wartburg/BV until this afternoon and it didn't surprise me a whole lot. The Central/Luther score very much surprised me.
When I get through reading game stories and talking to some sources, I'll post my thoughts. I'm going to guess since it was a loss, the Knights couldn't run the ball again.
Probably best I didn't find out about this yesterday. A Varsity loss Friday night to SEP, a Cyclone choke job Saturday, and then my brother calling me to tell me they lost, I needed a lot of consoling yesterday.
On the plus side, my Dowling sophs look to build on a 17 game win streak coming up Thursday. The kids I am coaching now have never lost. Most of their games have not even been close even with their 3 best players up at Varsity right now.
Anyone have any ideas for creating adversity during practice to see if these guys can overcome it. I'd hate to have to see the first time they do it be when the bullets are flying under the lights.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

All I have to say about this weekend is  ???

Congrats to Luther and BV on their big wins this weekend. If you would have told me that those two teams would be sitting at the top of the conference right now before the season I would have thought you were crazy. Can this season get any more wacky? Hopefully Cornell can stir it up too with a win over Simpson for homecoming this weekend.
