This conference is wide open this year....3 games this weekend could be considered game of the week.

Wartburg vs Coe- Will wartburg bounce back?

Central vs UD- With a UD win they could really demoralize central and get back into the conference race.

BV vs Loras- Both undefeated in conference.

Is Waldorf an overnighter?

Floyd in Iowa City

5 words,

It is not a bad drive from Decorah to Forest City.  I can't imagine it would take the team much over a couple of hours on Highway 9.

I haven't looked to see how Waldorf is doing this year, but they are not of the level of Central (0-3 in Pella).  B.V. had a crazy streak going (considering the programs were similar at times) against the Norse no matter where they were playing until last year.  Simpson has been up and down this decade, but so has Luther.  The Storm usually have had some real talent on defense in some of those games.

I have to admit that the 2006 losses to Simpson and B.V. were very hard to watch and understand, but that was kind of the norm that year.

It would seem as if the Storm Lake drive is pretty tough for a lot of the teams (by Iowa Conference standards) while the Beavers have long trips when they go on the road in the conference.  However, it's not like teams are getting jet lag like Hawaii does when the fly for road games.

Floyd in Iowa City

It is a crazy year so far in the Midwest for Division III football!

MIAC Standings
Augsburg 2-0    4-0
Carleton 2-0   4-0
Concordia 2-0   3-1
St. Thomas 2-1   3-1
St. John's 1-2   3-2
St. Olaf 1-2   3-2
Gustavus 1-2   2-2
Bethel 1-2   2-3
Hamline 0-3   1-3

Carleton has already beaten Bethel and St. Olaf (first win over the crosstown Oles in 11 years), but Concordia has already beaten both Bethel and St. John's!  Wow!

Concordia is probably the favorite now, but it would be neat to see Carleton or Augsburg take the title.

It'd be in Wartburg's best interest for Loras to beat BV and hope BV loses somewhere else down the line.  So for at least the next seven days, call me a Duhawk fan.  Now excuse me while I go dry heave for a while.

I always knew you had a soft spot for us Duhawks. Maybe Loras will mop up on wartburg like we always do over wartburg's tv students.

All I have to say about this weekend is  ???

Congrats to Luther and BV on their big wins this weekend. If you would have told me that those two teams would be sitting at the top of the conference right now before the season I would have thought you were crazy. Can this season get any more wacky? Hopefully Cornell can stir it up too with a win over Simpson for homecoming this weekend.

Sorry to sound like a petty complainer, but Loras seems a little passed off around here despite their early season performances.  BV and Luther are great stories as well and deserve plenty of kudos, but the Duhawks seem to be forgotten because of who they've played.  Someone mentioned that beating Coe and Cornell was nothing, but, based on this year's results, it seems to be about on par with beating Central and UD like Luther has done.

5-0 Monmouth is the only team to beat the Duhawks, and they had to come from behind to do it.  Sure, they shouldn't be crowned yet (far from it in fact), but it seems like the Pick 'em boards are going to be full of BV picks this week.  Is that a wrong assumption? Is it right, why so?
Not going to lie...Dewey is a pretty good looking bird/furry beaked body builder.

Congratulations to the Beavers for beating the Knights on Sat., it was too nice of a day to be stuck to a radio or computer, but when I read the paper yesterday AM, I was not TOTALLY surprised, but surely disappointed.

Also Congrats to the ROCKETS the NORSE on their upset.

I think you may have or be jumping to conclusions.  I for one have not even considered pickems yet.  I do not even know the scedule other than for the UD Central matchup.

Sorry for the delayed response -- add me to the list! Congratulations, Luther on your dominating win this weekend! I was away from my computer all weekend, but I about fell out of my chair reading the scores. I'm not surprised that you won, but I'm a little suprised by the domination! Kudos, and happy Homecoming. (I wish your Homecoming victory would have come at the hands of someone else, though...) :D

Congrats to the other victors, especially BV.

It's turning out to be quite the interesting year in the IIAC....

Schipper's spirit lives on!
That it does and I hope it always will.  Thanks Five Words.  Schip would have been pacing the square on those Saturday nights fretting about the game's outcome and working up the will to face the Sunday morning commentators at church the next morning.  I'm sure he was throwing down his hat in heaven on Saturday.

Sorry I don't consider a win over my winless rams as good as a win over a wartburg, central or even ud.  ;D  I think I gave Loras some kudos in one of my other posts right after that one. If I were you I would be more worried about taking care of BV this weekend. You guys win that game and you'll be sitting pretty good...of course wartburg and central will still be waiting..and ud.

I think you need to look up the meaning of the word "always."  Because by your standard, I guess Loras "always" wins their first two IIAC games of the season and Luther "always" beats Central.
