Tough weekend for me.  All the teams I cheer for are losing.  Knights, Cubs, Warriors...at least those Bears got a win!  GO IOWAN KYLE ORTON.

Wartburg isn't out of it yet, but it's never good relying on others to decide your fate.  Definitely not the way Willis had wanted the season to go.  Someone had hinted at too much drinking for some Wartburg players.  I'm sure if there is an issue surrounding frequent visits to Joe's by players that the coaching staff will have plenty of spare time after practice set aside for up-downs, for all.

The Dutch have some regrouping to do.  The schedule was a tough one for a group of younger players trying to learn how to play together.  Not blaming it for the way we are playing, but it just didn't do us any favors to have the second week off and the 4th week trip to Michigan.

The Dutch will learn from Saturday.  Luther opened our eyes to our weaknesses.  We will work on them and get better.  We have a lot of games left to play yet and we can still have a very successful year.  We have some seniors that want to finish strong and some younger players getting valuable experience.  It may well be a season where one or more 2 loss teams share the conference title.  We may or may not be one of them.  This year is anything but predictable.  The only thing I can predict is that Central won't be representing the IIAC in the playoffs this year.   Too many teams would have to finish with 3 losses for that to happen and I don't see that happening, even if Central wins out.  It will just make us more determined next year.  Central doesn't stay down long.

Does a win over the Lions even count?  'Bye' might be tougher! :D

            Hi Floyd,

The offense continues to evolve with a new wrinkle every week. They still don't run many different plays. The passing game has been what you saw Saturday. This was his best game so far in reguards to accuracy. They have done a good job of play calling to help him protect the ball. Yes, Reynolds has done a great job of decision making all year.
Aside from the St. Olaf game where the OLine didn't do much, they have been real good. I thought they were taking over the UD game in the second half before Bass got hurt. I think they played a lot better game against Simpson than the stats or score would indicate. OldNorse made a good observation during that game about Leigh in his first start. It seemed he was trying to hit the hole to fast as opposed to taking that split second to allow the line to create a gap for him and then hit it. He still had several 7 and 8 yard gains, but looked better this week. Especially impressive this week as they played without both starting guards.
Not sure what is going to happen with the kicking game. Barkley isn't getting the distance he was the first  two weeks for some reason. Grimm played a little at Simpson and more against Central. I know he doesn't think of himself as just a kicker, and doesn't want to be, but we might start seeing more of him one way or the other.

Thanks Thunderbolt!

I still do see Grimm as a kicker.  Maybe he is a kicker who also wants to play DB, but I would think the coaches would want him to not give up his day job just yet.  I understand that Barclay has a big leg and has had success at Luther as both a soccer player and a wrestler, but he seems very raw as a kicker.  I hope he has a big year in wrestling!

It is interesting to me how the Norse have been able to move the ball on Central and Dubuque (regardless of whether they won or lost) the past few years despite the success of the two teams, but moving the ball on Wartburg has been much tougher.  It seems like 2005 was the only good offensive game against the Knights in recent years.

Hopefully the team can still continue to get better as the season moves on.  I like the chances against Waldorf this week, but the next stretch of @B.V., Coe, and @Wartburg looks daunting.  Unlike other IIAC programs that may be more worried about B.V. this year, the Beavers have been as tough on the Norse as anyone.

Your right Flyod...The Beavers have been tough on the Norse, but they have always been very good games.  No blow outs of recent memory.  Back in 03 I remember a game where everytime we had the ball the sun shined and every time the Norse had the ball the wind blew.  It was quite interesting.

The Norse as well as the Beavers a bit upstart this season.  They are both most likely a year a head of schedule in my opinion.  Much like the Crimson Tide down in Alabama.  BV still has to play Central, Coe, and Loras.  None of those teams have been all to kind to the Beavers recently either.

This is going to be a fun run to watch.

This will be a big week for the Dutch. UD having two weeks to prepare for them it will be interesting to see how Central bounces back.

Any updates on Heys Jr?

Good news.  They won't need to amputate.

They used to shoot horses for these sort of things and he's as big as a horse and eats nearly as much...so I heard the thought crossed their mind when they looked at how much he eats at the commons.   Fortunately cooler heads prevailed.  ;)

So he's safe from the glue factory for the moment.  And his mom and I are glad to hear there is more football in him.

As to specifics.  What was seen on the video is what happened.  How fast he gets ready is anybody's guess at the moment...I have no info.

It really sucks as a parent to watch something like that.
You can't leave me....all the plants will die.

Purple Heys

Ya know, if this is career ending...he can always fall back on the summer acting gig he had filming TV Commercials for Jack's Links

He was the protagonist in the "Messing with Sasquatch" campaign.

Biggest benefit:  He didn't have to shave or cut his hair for the job.

:D

Sportsknight,

Was that Outfly day today?  If it was that has nothing to do with football I can assure you 5 words.

Yes it was FINALLY, OUTFLY.  After 3 weeks of great weather, I began to wonder if it was going to come down to the least cr*ppy day, but weather was NOT to bad.

While lamenting the Central loss to Luther this morning with a Dutch co-worker, talk turned to what we fondly referred to as the "Good Old Days." (He played for Schipper.) He brought up a kicker for William Penn back in the day that had a prostetic leg. Rumor has it that the leg would fly off every now and then when he was kicking....

True or not, it made me chuckle. Do any of you IIAC veterans have more insight to this, or any other interesting IIAC follies? Did any of you guys get hit by the airborne prostethis? Story time!  ;)

(Doolittle, this is a research project with your name on it!)  ;D

DF1- Oh, I remember that well!! We were on a BYE week or maybe it was the one "cancelled" game due to weather we had when I was a freshman at UD. Anyway, myself and some buddies went over to watch lorass play Billie Penn at Lorass. Anyway, had no idea the kicker had a prostetic leg until one kickoff in which the leg flew at least 20 yards!! TRUE TRUE. The following week when watching game film, we rewinded a few times  ;D Now, don't get me wrong, I and everyone else admired him for playing football with 1 leg. And on top of that, they fact that he was a kicker! But, our humor was just at the fact his leg wouldn't stay attached!

Thanks for reminding me of the memory!

I am glad someone else has a memory of this because I was afraid I would need the assistance of oldNorse or oldDutch for this.  My wife has a prosthetic leg and used to work for the company that made her leg.  I am sure they would be very interested to hear of a KICKER that wore one.  She would get a big laugh out of that one for sure.
