yea i just left halftime and coe is up 21-20.  Wallace, the back up qb for coe, threw a great ball to Ratchford with about 8 minutes to go up 21-17.  Wartburg then drove down to the Coe 14 or so and couldn't convert so they kicked a field goal for the score we have now.  Kyle Brockmeyer has 2 picks so far in the game.  Should have had another but it went right through his hands for a Wartburg TD.

WCF Courier Article on Luther QB Chris Reynolds

http://wcfcourier.com/articles/2008/10/10/sports/local/10677859.txt

Sounds like this kid is one CIML player I wish that didn't want to play in the IIAC. ;)
Reynolds is very good, I wish he had wanted to stay a little closer to home.  Interesting article.  I have also developed a lot of respect for Coach Durnin in the few articles that I have read about Luther football.  It sounds like he is fair, honest and respectful in his comments.  I think Luther got two good recruits this year, but only one of them plays.

I was thinkin' ... "Secret Weapon"

Actually, neither Reynolds or Durnin are the secret weapon.  I think it was pretty clear after camp that Reynolds was going to be good. And Durnin's record speaks for itself.  The secret weapon I was referring to has not been really shown yet.

Good luck to all IIAC teams...and hopefully no one gets injured.

It appears that the newNorse have several "SECRET WEAPONS".  Today the ...th string RB scored 4 touchdowns and gained 175 yards.  Perhaps the REAL secret weapon is the O Line and it's new O Line coach.  They seem to waltz together as they practice stepping together.

I think there is still one other secret weapon that hasn't shown his face yet.  BV be alert !!

Playing Waldorf may have been a big help too...

He caught everything that was thrown at him the last time he was at Chalmers Field.  It's just he was catching water bottles, seat cushions and t-shirts  ;D ;D ;D

The Spartans can't stop Heys Jr. they can only hope to contain him...and stop the rest of the Rams!!!

Thunderbolt

I second this statement.  Now my knights need alot of help from the other teams in the IIAC.

UD fans, you would have been proud of your team today.  They gave us all we wanted and more, it literally went down to the final play of the game.  I thought we were in good shape at half time.  Once again, great adjustments by the opposing team's coaching staff.  At halftime I heard the question, "Is this reminiscent of the old Central or the old Dubuque team?"  The second half made it clear it was neither.  Central has got to get back to playing all out for the full 60 minutes.  They were inconsistent again today.  I do give them credit for responding better to giving up another Pick 6 this week.  Lackey did a nice job at QB today.

I also give a ton of credit to Dubuque.  Down 21-7 at the half I was hopeful that we would have more of the same in the second half and could feel confident about our Dutch again, but Dubuque wanted it and they really went after it.  UD might not be where they were last year, but they are clearly not the team of old either.   They have turned a corner, and will get more conference wins if they keep playing like they believe they can win.  They had me convinced of it in the second half.  It may not be the same kind of accomplishment to play us close this year as it was to take us to 3 OT's last year, but I still think it is hard to come to Central's turf and win.  UD came back strong on us and tied it up in the fourth.  After what seemed like 10 time outs, Viggers saved the day against UD again.  Even then, UD came back and had a valid hail Mary pass in the end zone on the final play.  I wasn't really sure where the ball ended up until I saw the refs waiving their arms incomplete and a collective held breath was let out on the Central side.

Keep your heads up UD fans, you've got a good team and it was clear they believed in themselves.

Congratulations to Wartburg, Luther, Simpson and BV on their wins today.  It looks like BV's fate is in their own hands.  Right where you want it to be.  I didn't pick them to do well this year, I guess they are showing me how little I know.  Good job.  Just have an off day when you play the Dutch.   ;D ;D ;D

Doolittle,

You would have been proud of the fight in the Spartans today.  They came back after being down and into the fourth 1/4 no less.  I don't think it is that curse you were talking about any more.  I think you should now think of it as the Viggars curse.   ;D ;D ;D

That's right I forgot that he already had some game experience at the Burrito Bowl (Chipotle Stadium)   ;D

BTW -  I just copyrighted the Burrito Bowl   ;)

That's a great venue...having seen it 1st hand, it's a great place for football.

It's still a loss.  >:( Hard to keep taking these tough ones.  Next week is homecoming for the Spartans, hopefully we can get a win and Heys Jr. can rack up some stats in a loss ;D

Thanks Klompen for the kind words.  The 1-4 record of the Spartans might be reminescent of the old team.  But this team still has a lot of fight and some wins in them.  I am proud of them and the way they have represented their school.  They are a good group of kids.

Great game today in Dubuque. BV did exactly what they needed to do to win today.  They let McGrew do his thing, focused on shutting down the pass game, and it worked.  On the other side of the ball, the Beavers really had their pass game going. They made our d-backs look like high schoolers out there.

I can't say I'm too disappointed in my Duhawks today, the run defense was stellar and McGrew continued to show how good he and his offensive line are.  BV really exposed the holes, though.  I still think Loras has a chance to contend in the IIAC.  The Duhawks can beat anyone in this conference, but they could also lose to about anyone too. It'll be interesting to see how they bounce back from this one.
Not going to lie...Dewey is a pretty good looking bird/furry beaked body builder.

Great game today at Clark Field. Both teams played their hearts out and the officials, thankfully, didn't decide the outcome. Congratulations Wartburg. I hope the Kohawks earned your respect coming back from 17-0. You've earned mine with this victory.
