Outstanding win by the Beavers today.  Even though I did not see the game, I was helped with updated by Norsedad and MNBeev.  Thanks guys.

As NorseDad best put it, the Beavers could be nicknamed the "Cardiac Kids".  Two weeks in a row taking it all the way down to the wire to win.  The running game wasnt the best but the passing game was solid.  Another game that Peary has not thrown an interception, I guess waiting the wings for 3 straight years makes one want to take full advantage of the game once they are inserted into the starting line up.

For the first time in a while, the Beavers actually control their own way.  They do have a tough road with Coe, Central, and Luther all to play.  Next week its the Norse in Storm Lake, and history says that is always a great game.  Lets hope the Beavers keep the winning ways going.  This is going to be fun to watch!

Congrats to all the victors on the weekend and again, I hope all major injuries were avoided.

Who played QB for the Dutch today?  Did they bench Bandow?

Pat Wallace did well. Jordan Wilkens was amazing. Losing Jordan Pinckney hurt us bad. Welcome back to the bench, CJ.

It was a busy day.

1st:  I went to breakfast with my coffee group and we decided to take a road trip to Indianola this year instead of Waverly.  We'll still be watching the Knights, but we'll be in a different setting.  This actually works quite well since we have 3 or 4 Simpson fans in our gathering.  I've been put in charge of getting the low down on tailgating now days at Simpson.  We'll want to park two vans side by side.  We'll need room to grill some brats, an area for some folding chairs and a place to have a table for food.  A close proximity to the stadium would be nice.  There definately needs to be some tolerence for the consumption of adult beverages.  I'd like the Simpson fans here to give me some advice.

2nd:  We had a wedding to attend in Iowa City.  The service started at 1:00.  I asked the usher for back of sanctuary seating.  After the "I does" Mrs. Warthog and I headed out to Cedar Rapids to catch the second half or Coe/Wartburg.  We almost beat the bride and groom out of the church.

3rd:  I'm still concerned the Knights have no running game.  I'm not sure if the problem is the o-line or the running backs.  Perhaps it is some of both.  I didn't see any Knight o-linemen knock a Coe d-lineman on his butt.  It sure would have been nice to get that effort as time was running down in the 4th quarter and Wartburg needed a 1st down to run out the clock..  In an attempt to avoid kicking too much sand in the o-line faces, I didn't see Wartburg backs exactly barrelling into the Coe side of the line of scrimmage either.

4th:  Was it fall break at Coe?  They had what I would describe as a disappointing crowd.  I'm confident we had as many Wartburg fans as there were Coe backers.  Coe has a decent ball team.  They don't deserve playing a "road game" on their home field.

5th:  We listened to the game from Iowa City to Cedar Rapids on 1360AM.  The play by play guy was OK, but the old coach didn't add much as the color man.  He would put a horny tomcat to sleep.

6th:  Coe looks to have a great playing surface.  They could still use some visitor side seating, but maybe that will be coming down the road.

7th:  Coe serves  great hamburgers at the stadium.

8th:  I was embarrassed by the Wartburg students with the COE SUCKS tee shirts.  It showed a complete lack of class and quite frankly, very little original thought.

9th:  Upon returning to Iowa City and the wedding reception; I told the father-in-law of one of our former Wartburg running backs that his son-in-law was lucky he was running behind the likes of Voreis, Velky and Pollock.  Were he at Wartburg now he would have had to gain a lot of those yards on his own.

10th:  I have to stop being so bitchy.  A win against a good opponent should be reason enough to celebrate.  The coaching staff at Wartburg knows a whole lot more about football than I could ever dream to understand.  They'll figure things out without having to consult me.

New Storm

Lots of upsets today was glad the Storm avoided the upset at Cornell today. Reutzel carried the team after the Simpson QB was hurt at the end of the half. Thus they only threw the ball 4 times in the 2nd half. Hey there better off than Oklahoma,Missouri.Michigan and LSU ??? ??? ??? ???

As was I.  Had a wedding and luckily this board comes up decent on a blackberry.  Not sure if anyone noticed my fist pumping in the pews as one of those guys posted that BV scored their final touchdown with 2 minutes to go and then got the pick to seal the deal.

Props to Coach Anderson for believing in his kids when they went for it on 4th down a couple of times.  That's called playing to win.

Sounds like a good day for football all the way around today.  I was unable to be at, or follow, any games today due to the wedding of one of my college roommates from the days at Wartburg.  I was an usher, which mean that I had to be at the church "in uniform" at 1:00 for the 4:00 service.  Reception in Janesville was a great time, and I've just  gotten back to check scores and a few stats.

Sounds like a good win by the Knights today.  While I'd much rather see them not let Coe back into the game, its a nice feather in Wartburg's cap to come from behind and play some lock-down defense in the second half.  As Warthog mentioned, the continued lack of a rushing attack is a bit distressing, but not nearly as much as the five(!) times Wartburg put the ball on the ground.  Forcing some mistakes, making big plays (including the two 60+ yard TDs), and outgaining Coe by more than 130 yards and out possessing them by nearly 10 minutes are good things though.  Hopefully Wartburg can put some separation between themselves and Loras on Homecoming and can get some help from someone else along the way.

Also a good performance by the Beavers by all accounts.  I think it says quite about about the team from Storm Lake that they were able to put together a 9 play, 80 yard drive to score the go-ahead TD with less than two minutes to play.  Just like they did last week, BV proved that they deserve to hold the top spot in the IIAC standings.  Loras doesn't have a whole lot of time to lick their wounds, as they have to head to Waverly for Homecoming on Saturday.

No real surprises today with Luther and Simpson getting solid wins, and Central taking a squeaker over Sparty.

Also a good day for my picks.  Looks like Show, Stormtracker, Klop and I all went 5-0 today to move into a 4-way tie for the top spot.

I must have been at a different game in Cedar Rapids. The Knights actually had the sembalance of a running game today. If you take away the yards lost while Yordi did his best Drew Bledsoe impression, we actually had somewhat of a ground game. Lamar Harvey looks to have a bright future. Agreed, the o-line didn't obliterate people, but for the most part they did a good job. Most of the sacks given up were not the line's fault, they could be attributed to Yordi holding the ball way too long and not stepping up in the pocket. BTW, I'm not dumping on Yordi. He made some good throws, but sometimes he needs to just pull the trigger.

Also, why Sam Hammes does not get more conference recogition is beyond me. He proved again that if he gets the edge he cannot be caught.

Shades of 2004 isn't it.  The Beavers had it then as well.  I am not saying that will happen but long ways to go yet.

Attended yesterday's game at Loras.  BV got the win, but their play was not impressive in the first half.  The second half was much better, but they cannot play the way they did yesterday versus Central, Coe, and Luther without coming away with a loss at some point.  They looked sluggish, which isn't unusual for BV in the first game after homecoming.  However, if the team I saw beat Wartburg shows up every week from here on out, the Beavers will likely finish the season undefeated in the IIAC.

The most disappointing thing I saw yesterday was Ostey's failure, for the third straight year, to shake hands with the players after the game.  Maybe he does this against every team, but that wasn't the case when he coached at BV.  I think it shows a real lack of class and sets a poor example for the young men you're supposed to be teaching leadership and sportsmanship.  I guess it proves right those of us who always thought he was an a-hole who kept his job by kissing the right asses and putting up a facade when he had an audience.  Loras, you can keep him.

Ah, come on now, DF04, let the BV fans bask in the glory.  I, and most others on this board, picked them to be in the bottom half of the conference, if not the bottom 3rd.  They are doing what it takes and controlling their own destiny.  Maybe there are a lot of games left in the season, but so far they have beaten the top contenders at this point in the season.  None of their fans have been cocky or talking about their swagger or even talking about the playoffs as the Dutch and Wartburg fans have.  They are enjoying their success in a way that would have made Ron Schipper proud.  And I can't think of a better compliment.

Lackey switched back from defense to full time QB yesterday and because he was playing well and the game never got to the point where you would take out someone that was playing well, Bandow did not play yesterday.  I remember another Central years where the QB position was unsettled the entire year and when one guy was off, the other got a hot hand.  That was the case in 1973 between Mark Humphrey and Gary Cutler.  That could be the case again this year.  Of course, the next year Cutler won the job, Humphrey caught the pass that set up the only TD in the Stagg Bowl of 1974.  If only history would repeat itself.

Sure is.  ;)  I guess I missed LCNorse up on the page a ways.  He's still got us by a game, for now.

Yes you are right.  This is shades of 2004.  Lets hope that things are different in Storm Lake this season.  I feel after talking with the coaching staff and some of the players that this is different team.

This years Central squad remindes of me 2003.  That was a 5-5 team with no real QB and a lot of missed opportunities.

BV had an outstanding recruiting class and they have a good thing going.  I do not see these guys being a one hit wonder.

You better hope that the Dutch have not "over recruited" and they come back the remainder of this season and next year!

Haha...thanks bolt for letting them know who is still alone at the top. Although just like I'm sure BV is thinking, it doesn't matter who is number 1 at week 6 if your not number 1 at week 10...

LC needs to get a better non-conf opponent then Waldorf, that game is a joke...
