So is it safe to assume all of your Wartburg gear that was up for sale a couple of weeks ago is off the market now?   ;D

Doolittle,

The thing that helped the Dutch more than anything was getting that number 10 jersey back out on the field.  He put up a TD for them! ;D ;D ;D

Most of the stuff is still boxed up.  I did pull out a black sweater and an orange Wartburg Football polo shirt to wear today.

Right now I'm only humming Happy Days Are Here Again.  I'll break into a full fledged three act musical if the Knights keep fom shooting themselves in the foot over the next three weeks and earn a share or sole ownership of the IIAC title.  If that happens, I'll put my orange/black treasures back on shelves to be used for another season.  :D

I still need some guidence from Simpson fans concerning tailgating options on campus.  Needs include proximity to stadium, room for a grill and chairs, a casual attitude about consumption of adult beverages and some friendly Simpson fans.

These nachos I dug out of the fridge suddenly don't seem so appetizing and I have a sick feeling in my gut...luckily, my Spartans have already lost to your Dutch this season ;)

So I got that going for me...plus the "hope" Dubuque could end their season on a 5 game winning streak...it could happen 8)

The Show

It's going to take a lot more than a close loss to a good team for me to sell!  If you want though, I could loan you a couple t-shirts...

I wouldn't mind seeing both BV and Wartburg winning out.

Not to start a war with the Kohawk fans but I would like your take on going for the FG on 4th and two mid fourth 1/4.  I would have thought with the way the Kohawks were moving they would have gotten it and got 7 instead of 3.  They were still 3 scores behind at that point.  Just thought they might try to get a TD there.

NO IDEA  about going for 3...and  I have given up trying to figure out the minds behind the offense completely.  Coe has got to find a way to score.  Defense played hard again today for a BIG share of the game.  If #33 could have hung on to the near interception, I think it may have been a game changer.   I was not as impressed with the new qb today as I was in the Wartburg game but then it's only his 2nd varsity game...

Your not the only one questioning that call.  Not sure what anyone was thinking on that one.

Someone commented on Coe defending the run.  It should be noted that Coe was without it's #1 Starting Defensive Tackle in Jordan Pinckney today.  While he might not have high tackle numbers, the kid could plug up the hole in the middle like none other.  He was sure missed today.
They were also without #2 Bakke who plays some mean defense as safety and occasional cornerback.  Don't know if he or Pink will be back before the end of the season.  It's a shame since they are seniors.

I thought at that point if Coe could have punched in a TD they were only 2 TD's down but with them settling for 3 they were still down three possessions.  I was happy as a Dutch fan to see them go for three.
In the words of Bobby Knight: "I mean, I deeply hope we beat their ass today."

LCNorse

Couldn't make it to Storm Lake today but did make it to CR to see the Coe v Central game and was pretty happy with both outcomes...Central looks better...but still not Central like. That game could have easily been 24 or 28 -0 at halftime. Also breitbach should have had 2 picks IMHO and one would have saved some points also. I just don't like how they shuttle so many WR and RB in and out of the game, it seems hard to get into a rythme with any of the position players. Sometimes when you have 5 WR playing you really don't have any...but I was very glad to see # 10 get in the endzone for his first collegiate score...good things coming out of the fresh...overall turnovers kill Coe...just doesn't seem to be the talent that has been their the past couple years.

On too LC, I can't even say at the start of this year that I though LC would be in this position at this point in the year. Defense is playing great football, Mireu has 19 tackles and Webb gets another sack. As long as the D plays like its been playing they will be in ball games. I think that is LC's first win in Storm Lake since '83...not positive about that though. Kicking problem needs to get solved, that is going to lose us a game at some point. Missed XP and a 22 yard field goal. If both teams take care of business could be an exciting Norse, Warts game in a few weeks. But Coe comes first and LC isn't good enough to overlook any team in this conference. Great weekend for football!!

Returned a bit ago from Storm Lake and the Norse victory-by-a- hair.

Great credit to the Beavers.  I think the stats showed they played especially well and that Luther came away with a W because of FOCUS.  Both teams benefited from the WIND-OFF-THE-LAKE and both were hurt by the same.  BV is always a very tough place for Luther to play. Norse DLine did well enough to just hold things together,  OLine will work on it's stuff.  Beaver QB has a fine arm and a couple of excelling receivers.....#80 in particular.  LB Sly played a great game for BV.  All Conference 1 or 2 for both IMO.

Someone on the board mentioned the Warts/Norse game in two weeks.  LC needs to play Coe first and THAT is a problem.  If the Norse lose FOCUS...........  .  No prediction on the Coe/LC game at this point however.  Only HOPE that "springs eternal".

Congrats to all IIAC schools.  These games give life to all the "old jocks".  Remember, "the older we get, the better we were".

Floyd in Iowa City

Luther has not beaten Coe since 2003 when RBs Jefferson and Davis went crazy and the Norse went for around 500 yards.  That seems like quite some time ago, so I would hope that the Norse can keep that focus.

The Norse are not consistent in enough phases of the game to have a big edge on anyone left on the schedule, but I hope they can continue to have a good defense and enough from the offense and special teams to give themselves a shot!  They have now tied my highest preseason expectations with the 4th win, so I am all for the team being dramatically different than what I thought going into the season.

I don't know who is healthy, but both teams should have stong D-lines.

Congrats to Central and Wartburg for good wins for each program.  Maybe things are a little better in Pella than how it sounded around here the past few weeks.  With the way this season has been going, it still might be interesting the rest of the way.

But if you look at those numbers and think about it, it's pretty clear that few teams in the conference really count attendance (and Simpson doesn't even make a pretence of caring!).

Doolittle,

Great day for football.  I hope the apple picking went well for you today.  I hope you got to listen to some of the Spartans win today.

Purple Heys,

Sorry for your rams.  I heard they played pretty well for part of the game.  I hope Jr didn't get nicked up any more today.  Is there any chance you will be at the game next week.  If you come out I will have to seriously consider attending.

Jr. DNP'd for the 2nd straight game.  He's frustrated, he's mad, and he is itching to get back on the field.   >:(

I credit Cornell Staff's judgement in considering the player's health over the team's single game prospects as a parent.

As a fan, I sure hope they can get him back on the field this week...assuming he's ready.

I want to attend the Central/Cornell game...but it is unlikely I will be able to swing it.   :(
