Congrat to all the winners , and hope there was no serious injuries to anyone.
With BV losing to Luther it makes it real interesting in the IIAC for the rest of the games. Every game will be important the rest of the way out to every team.
Now on a more serious note. My prayers go out to the Mercer family for their lost. I didn't not know the young man even thou my son played football with him at the Burg and he was in my daughter-in-Law's class. After being in Law enforcement for 23 yrs and investigating to many  of these actions, I still don't understand how anyone could do this.
Add my prayers to the family and friends as well. We left for Storm Lake Friday night and somewhere west of Waterloo, we were passed by a couple squad cars . A few minutes later there were squad cars everywhere and a chopper in the air. Four on top of an overpass, others pulled off on both sides of the road with headlights shining in fields, several at a farm close to the highway, and it seemed one at every intersection on all the nearby roads. It was just a surreal experience while driving through the heartland.

Ouch.

I figured Wartburg would be a tough match-up for us wth their style of play, but that was rough. Kudos to the Orange, they're really looking like the team we thought they would be. Next week should be a good opportunity to get back on track and finish well in the conference, but right now the Duhawk faithful are a little down.

We got a little spoiled by the early season success, but a letdown was almost inevitable with a still rebuilding squad. I wanted to believe it wouldn't happen but it did.  The rest of Loras' games are winnable.  Hopefully they don't let the last couple weekends get to them, and get back to playing like they did against Coe and Millikin.

GO RAMS!

I'll be down in Mt. Vernon next weekend cheering on Cornell for a change of pace.  Gotta go and give love to O lineman Spencer Emke on Saturday. Talk about a guy who epitomizes the spirit of DIII football. He wasn't the greatest player in high school, but he loved the game more than anyone I knew, and wanted to continue his career.  He worked his tail off in college, stuck with it, got better, and now sees the field quite a bit for the Rams.  A group of about 10 of us will be down there to pad some Ash Park attendence stats.

Can't believe I'm skipping out on the big UD/Loras game! Too bad the scheduler was stupid enough to move the game to 7 only to move it back to 1.

....also, sorry to hear about Grant Price. He might not have been big into sports, but he inspired a lot of sports reporters to get in the business and bring fans the stuff they wanted to see.  I had the pleasure of meeting him on a number of occassions over a past few years.  He was always very gracious and willing to give students knowledge, even if you were from Loras :).

My condolances also to the Mercer and Price families.

There has been some talk of the COY candidates.  At this point (week 7 completed) I think Norse coach Durnin has the nod.  No coach this year is doing more with less than he is.  Nobody in Norse Nation thought we would be 3-1 in the IIAC at this point.  We thought we had a chance against BV at the beginning of the season but when BV was 4-0 some wondered.  Whomsoever BV plays in the the rest of the season.........watch out!  IMO BV is the strongest team the Norse have played so far.  But.......we have the toughest part of our schedule yet to go:  Coe, Warts, Cornell, Loras.  Lutherans....pray for Luther.

Spot on as usual oldNorse. As was your previous post on the game. I would under score the comment about Sly. That was a great individual performance within the confines of good team defense. It was good to see you and your son again, and nice to meet your brother.

My condolences to the Mercer and Price families -- quite a loss, and a sad day for the entire IIAC family.

Congrats to all of the winners out there, especially my Dutch. CK, aren't you glad you were in New Orleans instead of Cedar Rapids? ;) j/k

I can't comment on the game in CR, as I made my annual pilgrimage to Iowa City for the Iowa/Wisconsin game. (Touchdown, Iowa! Touchdown, Iowa!) That was a hell of a game, and I saw myself on several replays later, thanks to stellar tickets! I can say that Saturdays game was the best I have seen the Jailbirds, er, Hawkeyes look in a while....

I spent some time in CR Friday afternoon, and hung out with my Wartburg cousin that evening. It appears there is still some rebuilding to be done downtown after the flood...it was a bit sobering to see several downtown businesses boarded up still, three and a half months later.

Luther wins a shoot-out.  6-3.  BV had a chance at the end, but missed a jump ball.  Good game by Luther.  Good time for a bye (a.k.a. Waldorf) next week and be ready to finish strong.
Yea, that worked out to be about 1 point for every 75 miles for me. The Norse bandwagon made it out of Storm Lake battered but in tact. Though I couldn't help but feel like we just stole something. The way your team handled themselves the last two weeks should just make them stronger down the stretch.
We enjoyed our stay in Storm Lake. The Boathouse is a neat place with great food. We met some nice folks at Brewsters, where we threw darts and had a couple beers after we arrived. The owner is a good guy, who had some funny stories about some of the Wartburg travelers. (seems they can enjoy themselves even in defeat) The win helped the long ride home. All in all the only way the trip could have been better, is if it was about three weeks earlier, so we could have enjoyed the peak color change of the corn plants.

KNights D looked like the D of old yesterday for the last 3 quarters. Hopefully something that can be built on.
Also encouraging that, even though the final stats don't show it, the Knights run game was effective (especially in short yardage situations).
Saw some nice Iso plays and even a good old fashioned 26 Power on the Goalline.
I was told before the game that if McGrew was struck he wouldn't hang on to the football, and he proved that to be true yesterday.
Knights interior pass protection was poor which made it impossible for Yordi to step up in the pocket. If that can get fixed, and the run game continues to improve, the KNights can be dangerous these last few games.
Big one in Indianola this week.
The Storm Blows.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Just found about the Mercer story tonight on here.  What an awful thing to happen.
I have a friend that is  a cop in M-town but I can't reach him tonight. it's  too bad IA doesn't have the death penalty for this scum.  (at least I don't think they do?)

I noticed in the release that the shooter had the same last name as the gal.  estranged wife?

Let me add my prayers for the Mercer and Price families.

As far as the Knights game, we still have work to do, but there has been progress made.

On the plus side, the running game looked the best it has all season. Perhaps we've found that fullback we've needed in a converted guard. The difference was noticeable from the first offensive play. The defense also showed the ability to make adjustments and play well. Even saw some encouraging signs of emotion. And I belive Vetter to be one of the elite WR's in the conference. Our tackling was better, but not at a collegate level.

On the down side, we were lucky in the first quarter. If Loras doesn't commit a couple of turnovers, we're looking at a different ballgame. Yordi still needs to step up in the pocket to avoid the rush and not hold on to the ball. We still haven't played a complete game yet. If we play a whole game the way we played the middle two quarters, we may live up to our on-paper potential.

Overall, we showed improvement, which is good, because there are no gimmies left on our schedule. Simpson will be rested and waiting for us.

Ex Husband.  I got an email from home that said he was an abusive husband and they were divorced.

I have heard a divorce was in the works but maybe hadn't been finalized?  According to the woman's obit, they have a 6 year old son.  Makes all this even sadder...

In the words of Bobby Knight: "I mean, I deeply hope we beat their ass today."

Klopenhiemer

Hey guys I am back.  I spent all last week in Baltimore for the National Park and Recreation Show.  Then I headed to Iowa City to catch the Hawks game on Saturday.  Last week was a blast, we did not have to be on the floor working the exhibits until noon every day so the nights were filled with "entertaining" customers.  In other words, wrecking your liver!

Tough loss for the Beavers on Saturday.  Sounded like a typical Luther vs. BV win.  Hard nosed game that came down to the wire.  I am not selling off the BV gear yet, as there is still a lot of season left.  We still hold the cards as Luther has to beat Wartburg and win out to stay on top.

BV is in the same spot at 04' and I hope I am not disapointed at the end of the season.  They have Cornell and Waldorf.  If they lose either of these games it will be a big disapointment.  They also have Central at home and Coe on the road.

I am confident that the Beavers will come back this weekend and pound Waldorf and be ready for the following weeks game.

Congrats to all the winners and lets hope the board keeps moving.  Great post 5WOL....I thought the same thing for a while.  We talked so much during the off season that I figured this board would be rolling during the season.  With 4 weeks left in the conference season lets make it the best.

GO BEAVERS!!!

It's going to take a lot more than a close loss to a good team for me to sell!  If you want though, I could loan you a couple t-shirts...

I wouldn't mind seeing both BV and Wartburg winning out.
The only team I want winning out is the Dutch.  I was all for BV, but now that we are back to only one loss behind the leaders, those good feelings are disappearing.  Imagine that?   ::)

Come on Klompy you were never for the Beavers...Do not bother buttering us up with Beaver bandwagoning only to fall off when the Dutch show a small glimer of hope :-*
