It may, but Cornell being so "studious" i doubt would draw interest much from recruits.

Why, in your opinion, is this a turn off to recruits?

being studious isnt a turn off.. i was saying the allure of bars/partying in IC would probably not attract those that cornell goes after.

I thought that of all the campuses that are in the IIAC Cornell's had the oldest feel to it.  I thought that the Chapel on the hill was very pretty.  The trees changing color was nice as well. I thought it had the most small town feel.  I guess I am kind of a small town guy.

They and UD used to do this. Not sure what the reason behind it was. More hostile atmosphere for the visitors?
Less distractions for the home team?
Upper Iowa is not saying why he was fired. Other than being an arrogant prick, I don't know why they would. They've won just as much as they have any other time in the last 15 years.

Upper Iowa not quite getting the D2 success they were hoping for.

WHAT A MESS .

Aren't you originally from New Providence?  That's about as small town as it gets ;D

As far as being "out there"  Luther and BV were the only schools that seemed way out from anything to me.  There is still enough business opportunities to get some internships at any school though.  Coe, Loras and UD might have a bit of an advantage as far as numbers of places for internships, but all schools would have some decent choices for their students to intern.

Could WH and the Mrs. dress as a priest and nun taking their daughter to baptism???  Maybe innappropriate though.

The UIU situation is interesting.  I almost brought it up yesterday because I knew Knoll was in trouble.  Would any IIAC coach be interested in UIU???  It is DII but I would think that would be a lateral move at best from any IIAC school.  Would more money really be worth it???

When  did they stop doing that in the first place?

Some advantage....I don't think they won standing in front of the visitors, either!  ;D

Actually I was born in the Twin Cities.  Lived in the Cities and Chicago for the first ten years and then moved to Iowa.  Graduated from Chariton High moved around Iowa some.  Kids did graduated from ENP though.  Yes I do like the small town life of Iowa.

I always liked it when the Upper Iowa team stood on the visitor sidelines.  The Dutch fans just thought they were being very accommodating as the visitor stands were more than big enough for their fans and the home stands could almost handle the Central contingent.  The view was certainly better from the home stands and since their fans weren't filling them anyway...

Just FYI...the small town, small college definitely held an attraction to Jr.'s decision process.  Our drive up the hill in Mt. Vernon and down the street to Cornell was very memorable.

And I will say again, Cornell's football record and future prospects or any reputation in that regard was so for down the list as to being a non-issue.

I do remember mentioning to him as we sent in his $300.00 check, "you're going to probably play for a team that loses more games than it wins..."  He shrugged and said, "Well, I'll just have to help them win some then."

I think he could've helped most of the teams in the IIAC.    ;)

My condolences go out to Central volleyball player Haley Brillhart who's father passed away from Cancer.

I'll second this.  I had the chance to meet Haley a bit while I was in Pella a she seemed like a very nice girl.  Well like by her teammates and coaches, and I'm sure this is a very tough process to go through without combining the fact that she is "in season" right now.

(And let's the just save the jokes about me claiming that an 18-year-old is "in season" fellas.  Not the time.)

When I went to BV people said the same thing.  Why wouldnt you go to Central or Wartburg and have a chance to win.  I said BV was a middle of the road team, and how sweet would it be if we actually won the conference while I was there.  I liked the campus, the coaching staff, and the players.  People have said alot of things about Osty, but I tell you what he earned some points with me when I got hurt and he retianed me and let me help out with the d-line.  I met my parrents on that day and I can still remember him giving my mother a hug and stating that I was still apart of the program and would still be able to stick around.  We never won the conference and pissed the only good chance we ever had down our leg, but the experience and what I learned is all I need.  Even thought my right ring finger tells him hes lonley some days ;)

Good points.  Not everyone can go to Central or Wartburg.  There is not enough PT for all.  Also the academic side comes into play.  As PH has stated Cornell's class schedule was attractive to his son.  SK went to Wartburg for the Com Arts major you can not get that at Central.  IMHO all of the IIAC schools have their strengths for academics.  That is the bottom line for D3 players.

The Peacocks still seem like a baseball/wrestling school now that they are in the Northern Sun.  I always thought of them the same way when they were in the IIAC.  The baseball team was up and down, but so are most baseball programs outside of Wartburg the last ten years or so.

Upper Iowa also had some decent to good basketball teams at one point, but many Peacock programs were very bad back when I was in Decorah.  They didn't really have much of a women's program.  They also didn't have many women on or near campus.

The Northern Sun was a very weak Division II conference overall before the NCC fell apart.  Now that Mankato, Augustana, Duluth, and St. Cloud joined, the conference schedule got tougher for everyone.  Winona State is having its first down year in the league play for football in quite some time.

The Northern Sun has little tradition as a league.  It also now has schools from Nebraska (Wayne State), South Dakota (Augustana), Iowa (UIU), and Minnesota (about everyone else).  As an Iowan, I would much rather play or coach in the IIAC where there are traditional rivalries a nice traveling distances to most of the league schools.  Obviously I am biased though.

I always think of Upper Iowa when I am at a Coe game in Cedar Rapids and the Norse fans are complaining about the seating situation for the visiting team.  However, my last trip to Upper Iowa was more fun than the last two trips to see Luther play at Coe. :(
