Want to wish all the teams in the IIAC Good Luck today except Simpson  ;D ;D ;D
Hope for no serious injuries and for everyone traveling today to watch their team play to have a safe trip.

GO KNIGHTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You called it you must have been one of the refs yesterday... No just kidding you probably have better eye sight ::) ::) ::) ::)

I don't think the new playoff format is the problem, most states around us have similar numbers in payoffs.   If the went to 24 teams then there would be bye weeks to fret through, and the associations intent is more playoff experiences for kids (and more money for them!)

Don't think that I am defending the association, District football is not the best decision they've ever made. They've got to make some changes in football after next year.   The problem is only 64 teams in each level, creating huge travel games halfway across the state in some cases.  I think its time to reduce classes if more schools go to 8 man.  Drop class A and go back to 80-96 teams in each class, might keep travel down and maybe even attendance would go up!

Not sure of what to think about Central's win yesterday.  Normally would be happy about another OT win but maybe my expectation about Cornell was wrong.  I just can't see why Cornell isn't 4 and 4 or better, they have a good team.  Maybe now that the weather is cooler they won't wear down toward the end of the game like they did earlier in the season.  Hope the Rams win out.  Good luck.

But for the Dutch, who starts at quarterback next week?  Do we go for a good passer ( when he's on) or a fair passer and a fair running quarterback.   Can we stop the run?  Coach Mac has to be scratching his head on this one.

Yesterday was a wild ride for the conference, isn't fun.   Go Dutch!

lOOKING AT THE STAT'S FROM YESTERDAY GAME LOOKS LIKE SIMPSON OUT PLAYED THE KNIGHTS EXCEPT FOR THE FINAL SCORE.  ANOTHER TERRIBLE DAY IN THE RUNNING GAME FOR THE KNIGHTS, DON'T KNOW HOW LONG THEY CAN KEEP WINNING IF THEY DON'T GET THAT PART OF THE GAME GOING. I DO KNOW IF THEY MAKE THE PLAYOFF [AND THAT A BIG IF] THEY WILL NOT GO FAR WITH OUT A RUNNING GAME. I HAVEN'T SEEN A GAME THIS YEAR SO I DON'T KNOW WHERE THE PROBLEMS LIES. NOT SAYING I WOULD PROBABLY KNOW ANYWAY.

Also interesting that 7-2 Union of La Porte City gets to travel 115 miles to the Des Moines area to play a 5-4 Colo of Crestwood.  That makes a ton of sense.

Congrats to Saturday's winners. The Dutch luck came through once again... sorry for the winless Rams sounds like they played a great game. I agree with some other posters on blog. How long does it take to get stats up on web? Wanted to see who did all the work 4+ hours down highway 20 in Dubuque, but NOTHING on Loras website for hours and not a small story about the game?. This morning's paper in NW Iowa... no results either, Kudos for former Beaver coach Osty, but find an SID who does their job! How about on the conference site getting the football stats linked on Saturday's too!

I've crawled out of my bottle and it's time to congratulate the winners. Another weekend of great finishes.

It was a good hard fought win on the road for Coe. Luther showed that they aren't quite ready to accept success in all facets of the game. The Norse defense didn't deserve to be saddled with a loss yesterday. They shut out Coes offense for 60 minutes. Coe was 0-3 in the red zone, 1-14 on third downs, and with 2 minutes 38 seconds to go in the game, had 5 first downs and a total of 119 yards. In the fourth quarter alone, Coe started drives at there own 49, the 50, the Luther 49, the Luther 48 and the Luther 47. They got nothing.
Charlie you are correct, no way does that last fumble go to Hammes. He's a tough kid and one of the 3 best in the conference.
The game winner in OT was a gutsy call, probably an ill advised pass, and a tremendous athletic play by the reciever. I say it was a gutsy call because through 60 minutes, Coe had 65 yards passing with 2 ints. and a couple more that could have been. With the gale at there back and a good kicker they were already in range to tie it. Ill advised in that the reciever was covered like a rug. I understand he had single coverage and a couple inches on the DB. But I'm convinced the QB didn't make that read. But a great job of posting up and making a difficult catch with a man draped over him. I guess I know how BV felt last week.
Congrats again on the win, Coe has been missing just one piece to the puzzle all year long.

I haven't seen as many games this year as the previous 4-5 seasons, but Hammes is probably the best back I have seen so far this year (did not make the trips to B.V. or Simpson).  Both defenses dominated at times, but Hammes still looked good even while the Coe Offense was struggling.

It is a day later and the punt return muff is still tough to take.  There were other big moments in the game, but up 16-7 and getting the ball back should have been a good situation.  Like some past games against Central, the Norse were whipped/gave it away in special teams.  The wind played a factor, but it was mostly the same wind for both teams.

Too many punt return muffs and missed extra points this year.  The defense and the overall turnover margin has kept the team competitive so far.

A team built on a good defense and a promising QB probably does not deserve to be 4-1 when the other parts of the team are inconsistent or in some cases below average, but yesterday is still giving me a case of the what-ifs.

Not the momentum I was hoping for going to Waverly this week.

DF4 - Thanks - see you in Pella in a few weeks

Look forward to it.  I wear a #10 Central jersey

Size XXXL ;D ;D ;D

I kid, I kid...I know you've done a lot better on your diet than I have been able to do.

Like Heys, I had a few drinks to drown my sorrows over a dissapointing season for the team I cheer for.

Now now only an XXL I am down 42 lbs in the last 6 months.

Congratulations -- I bet it feels great!

Thanks Pat that it does.

It was great to actually be able to attend a Wartburg game this year...great day, good people, etc..   A few thoughts after watching the game...

Wartburg has to do a better job of running the ball.  Their defense was on the field for WAY to long in the second half.   From the stats, it appears as though the running game has been a problem all season.   I don't think there is one group to blame for this (from yesterday's game).  The line wasn't moving ppl off the ball, the backs didn't break many tackles, and the QB does not appear to want to run that much.

On the positive side, I was impressed with their passing game.  QB did a nice job of hitting open WR (especially #14), QB also was very effective in the pocket (moving around and play fakes).    Defensively, they played fast and did not miss many tackles.  #7 and #24 did a great job of filling gaps and their D-Line got after the QB.

The refs did make some questionable calls.  It did appear that there was a ton of grabbing by DB's on both sides.  Wartburg got the benefit on a couple of calls, but I don't think that was the turning point of the game.  Simpson not being able to get in from the one foot line and a complete meltdown in the secondary were what doomed the storm.

One other question...I noticed that both Wartburg and Simpson did not use a huddle.  Is this becoming common place in the IIAC?

Congrats to Coe on the overtime win today, 22-19.  Coe blew a chance to win the game right at the end of the 4th quarter when they fumbled inside the Luther 5.

Coe did almost nothing on offense all day even though they had the wind and great field position in the 4th quarter.  Both defenses owned the field for most of the day.  Both defenses were very strong as usual up front.

Luther has a very good defense and a solid freshman QB.  The defense played very well today as Coe returned a fumbled kickoff back for a TD and recovered a muffed punt return by a senior Norse WR in the end zone for the other regulation TD.  The lack of being tough in all phases of the game finally did them in.

Luther was up 10-0 at the half even though they ran out of time in the 2nd quarter with the ball at the Coe 4.

Luther also missed an extra point for the 4th time in this year. :-[  It was another bad day to be the special teams coach as Coe outscored the Norse 14-7 in that phase of the game.

The defense is playing great, you have a lead at home, and then you can't be at least average on special teams.  The buzz at the game at Waverly might have been fun next week.

So congrats to Coe for passing for the winning TD when they had not been able to throw the ball all day.  What a crazy game, but Coe has found a way to do this to the Norse in recent years.

What a great day for football in Decorah!  Hopefully all the IIAC venues today were also sunny and cool!  Luther has a beautiful campus especially in the fall.  Congrats to all the Kohawks on their win vs Luther-it was a team effort!  Sure hoping Pinckney, Breitbach, Bakke, Rozum and CJ can get healthy & be back next week!  Coe Defense-YOU ROCK!  Let's do it again next week...BEAT BV!

I believe they will all be back next week, with the exception of CJ.  His playing days appear to be over.
