In what seems to have become the Concatenation bowl (look it up Coe fans), the more interesting development is:  should Coe lose they will be winless at home in Coach Staker's first year.  Will that put a little extra pressure on the players and staff?

When is the last time that happened and should it come to pass, and how might it reflect on the rookie head coach?

BTW, we are taking it to the Bye this weekend.    :D

BTW, we are taking it to the Bye this weekend.    :D

10,000 years ago when I was in high school, I was watching some college football with a friend of mine and my dad.  The TV was flashing the scores of the ranked teams.  When it showed Texas vs Idle  my friend asked if that team was pronounced I-dull or I-dell!!!  After he noticed my dad and I exchange dumbfounded looks he quickly realized his mistake.  We still laugh about that day.  I suspect Cornell will do as well against Bye this weekend as Texas did against Idle back in the day  :P

I plan on having a few BV'ers on the rocks tomorrow at Mahoney's Irish Pub before the game.

Anyone care to join me?

Are you buying???  ;D

Even if you are buying, my wife has told me she is shopping all day with her mother tomorrow and I will be watching our kids.  Don't think taking them to Mahoney's would make my wifes list of acceptable babysitting activities!!!  I might, if I can convince them it is fun, get them to help me with some yard work.  If not, I will just tell them to go upstairs and have fun destroying their rooms while I hang out downstairs having a drink and watching the Hawks play and listening to the UD game.  Afterwards I will attempt to clean the house up before my wife gets home.  If the house isn't clean enough for her standards I at least hope I can get wins out of the Hawkeyes and Spartans ::)

Wow dog you are under some strict orders.  I feel sorry for you.

Hmm, I wouldn't consider a "no taking the kids to a bar" and "no letting the kids destroy the house" strict orders from the Mrs.   ;)

Plus, my wife runs a daycare...she gets "time away from the kids" days often on the weekends.  I probably make it sound worse than the reality.  Just wait till you get kids!!!

BTW Charlie....Cornell who?...You guys and Cornell might be the two bigget disapointments in the IIAC this season
It's pronounced 'Colonel,' and it's the highest rank in the military.

doolittle....it not, but these youngins don't understand.  :D  Similarly, I didn't think 'Everyone Loves Raymond' was funny before I was married w/ kids; now I think is hilarious and pretty spot on.

Ummm yeah...it was late.

If you look at about every nickname in the IIAC there can be a good argument for why each sucks.

Duhawks, Kohawks - Typical throw something in front of Hawks because its in Iowa

Knights, Rams, Spartans- Sound like a newly consolidated high school that doesn't want to offend anyone.  All we need is a "Cougars" and we'd be set.

Beavers - Soft drink/water rodent

Storm - Our token WNBA-sounding entry

Norse, Dutch - Woah, its a local national origin, ooo scary....

I actually like most of the mascots in the IIAC, the -hawks are unique, the Norse and Dutch are honorable....Just saying its so easy to say one nickname is inferior to another.
Not going to lie...Dewey is a pretty good looking bird/furry beaked body builder.

Damn fine work KC.  I had to wonder if some of the quotes from this week's "Office" would come up on here.

Walston Hoover

Huge fan of that one. +k from me.

Of course Loras was out of the IIAC from around 1950 through 1985.  But still, a nice streak to break for the Duhawks.

1st Loras win at Central since 1941!!!

Wow, talk about ending a slump buster.

Pretty quiet on here.  Coe lost and Central was down by 10 last I heard.

Hard fought victory today for the knights.  They did block a punt  and held Luther on a 1st & goal from the 1 in the 2nd quarter.   2 Huge momentum swings.
Luther ran 3 consecutive qb sneaks and then incomplete pass on 4th down.  interesting play calling to say the least.  If you have any kind of athletic qb, why don't teams run bootlegs inside the 10?
If you are playing against agressive defenses, this is the best play to run.
If a DB bites on the fake, it's 6.  Or the QB has the option to scramble.

I was off 100 yards on  my prediction of Yordi tossing 250(157) but I wasn't counting on 180 yds rushing from the knights either.

WH or SK,  can either of you shed any light on the freshman RB that had 93 yards today on 16 carries?
must be a quick little dude.. he's all of 5'7" 167#-

Congratulations to Loras for their win today.  It isn't easy to beat Central at Central, but you came out and hung 21 on us before we had a first down.  Walking by the locker room before the game we overheard talk of playing the full 60, play hard every down, and get it going right away.  Didn't happen.  McGrew has my imaginary vote for POY, of course, if he gets it all the WB fans will call it a travesty.   ;) ;) ;)

I learned some things today and faced some hard truths.  One hard truth is that this really is a rebuilding year for Central.  We have some talented returning players and we have some terrific first year/transfer players, but they just can't completely fill the holes left by last year's graduates.  I also learned that expecting a team with so many new players to come back time and again the way last year's more experienced players did is unrealistic.  Along with that knowledge is a recognition that last year's squad may not have gotten the credit they deserved for being able to do that as often as they did with the injuries they faced.  I learned that this year's Central squad has learned not to give up.  At Luther, I felt they gave up, but last week and this week they kept battling.  That will make them a better team next year, but it will leave this year's seniors with major disappointment.  They will not feel good about their senior season, and I wish they could because they really just had too many holes to fill.  I've learned that I can't will the team to win.   :D  I was sure I had something to do with some of last year's comebacks.   ;D ;D ;D  I've learned that I must dislike Wartburg more than I thought I did, because I have mixed feelings about next week.  I want Central to win, but I don't want to help Wartburg.  I've learned that much as Wartburg dislikes us, they are going to have to be pulling for us next week.   ;D ;D ;D  In the DUH category I have learned that it is far easier to second guess a fantastic coach when your team is behind.   ::)  I would have put Bandow in already the first quarter, if not started him.  I thought he earned his starting spot back last week.  Lackey did some nice things today, but I don't know that either one has clearly won starting rights and if things are not going well for one, don't wait until it is too late to switch to the other.  I've learned that the center NEEDS TO LEARN HOW TO SNAP THE BALL to more than one QB.  2nd and 58 is a nightmare than should have never happened.  I've learned that it is far more fun to be on the scoring end of a Pick 6.   :o :o :o  Okay, I already knew that, but what the heck.  You have to keep a sense of humor.  I've learned it is much easier to be gracious in defeat when it rarely happens.  It is getting old now.   ::)  I've learned that Wartburg isn't the only team hurting for a running game.  I've also learned how other teams' fans felt when Vance Schuring was healthy and playing for Central.  Kind of like being on the scoring end of the Pick 6, it is much more fun to have the Vances of the football field on your team.   ::)  Yes, I already knew that one too.   ;D

I've learned we have some great openings for the top senior running backs in the state.  Veldhuizen and Zachary are both good, but I wish they had learned more from watching Schuring the past few years.  I've learned to be thankful Central has already clinched another non-losing season.   :-\  I've learned that Central has nothing to lose and can go out to BV next week and take some chances.  I've learned that I was wrong to say that Mac was out coached in some of the games this year.  When you have lots of new players it just takes time to get back to the top, plus the coach can only do so much, the players have to step up, and sometimes they just don't quite have the experience to do so.  But it is still looking good for next year.  I've learned I can be quite wordy when things don't go they way you would like so I've learned it is time to just shut up.   ;)
