Red Zone play calling was very questionable...but no way Luther didn't get in from the one yard line...this picture is a tough angle but I still think it looks as if he got in.

Regardless, Wartburg made plays when they needed to.

So back in August wasn't it pretty well assumed that BV and Loras were going to stink this season...by even their own fans???

What the heck happened???

Also, things are looking pretty good for Coe to go 0-4 at home and 4-0 on the road in conference play.  That has got to be a pretty rare occurance.  With 5-3 conference records each of the last 2 seasons...if Coe can go 4-4 this year while dealing with a coaching change...I would call that a pretty decent year.  But I am a Dubuque fan with lower expectations than most people...I suppose most Coe fans will think of this as a down year.

Tough loss for the Kohawk and their seniors today.  YepKudos to BV, they looked like  a good team.  I agree.Coe's freshman seems to be getting better, but it's just going to take more experience for him to get better.  Tough way for the seniors to go out at home by going 0-5 at home this year.  The play calling was a little questionable for the kohawks today...on 4th&1 and down by 10 coe kicks a FG; while I understand that it was a 2 score game, the offense was driving it's best of the day at the point and I believe could have picked up the 1st.  And then the reverse pass that ended the game by BV intercepting in the endzone seemed a little questionable.  They were driving again like earlier in the game and then decided to throw in some trickery when they could have just pounded it in with Hammas.  However, hindsight is 20-20.  The thing that hurt Coe the most was the penalty for 12 men on the field on a 4th down punt, which gave BV a first down that resulted in a TD. That hurt! The one highlight of the game was Tate Harrison recording 22 tackles to break the school record for a single game! He is a beast in the middle!  He sure is!

Hopefully Coe can finish out strong by taking the their frustrations against Dubuque.  Hopefully a bye week will help them regroup...got some walking wounded right now.I would like to make the trip to check out the new stadium, but not sure if I will be able to just yet.

Good luck Bevoers!  I would rather see you win the Conference than Wartburg!!   Me, too!

First losing season since 99, I believe. Damn straight it's a down year.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

TOugh to tell from that angle. Can't see his legs to see if they are down and don't know if it is after the whistle has been blown.
Looks very close though.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Nine weeks into the season and the Knights have found a running game.  It was fun to watch the plays develop.  Wartburg was getting some run blocking and some hard running today.  I thought I could hear Happy Days are Here Again playing somewhere in the recesses of my brain.
It may have resulted in a couple unsportsman penalties, but the Knights were playing with an attitude today.  We wanted to see emotion and fire, well we got it.
I hope they can carry it over to next Saturday.  I would guess there are going to be a few Knights who can remember how it felt watching the Spartans celebrate a victory on the Walston Hoover carpet .  I hope they can teach the youngsters that watching that sort of thing really sucks.

Klompen: Wartburg doesn't expect to get POY or COY awards.  Most Wartburg fans are resolved to the fact that our guys will be frozen out of such recognition.

Old Dutch:  My oh my, yes I am for sure a Dutch fan for the next seven days.

I didn't realize BV had such close games all in a row.  beat WB by 5, Loras by 3, Lost to Luther by 3-
I'm hoping they can find a way to lose this week by 3.  Or 1, I'm not that picky.
I don't see them going to Mt Vernon and getting beat.

Here's something I found on BV's site.  supports  my previous point about how key the turnover battle is.

"There is approximately a 60% correlation of winning and turnover margin in the game of football.  This year, teams that are +1 in the turnover margin have a combined record of 127-49."

You are right the picture is a tough angle and to be honest its hard to say he got in, not saying he didn't but from that angle you can't tell.

Is your hate for Wartburg cause Coe can't beat the Evil Empire Or is it you hate all teams that are better the Coe ? Congrat to Tate for having 22 tackles in the game that quite the game.

Old Dutch

Looking at the stats this morning, it would appear to have been a blowout by Loras, the Dutch were out gained by over 200 yards - all on the ground as Central racked up a blistering 30 yards rushing again.  Loras DOUBLED the Dutch TOP (39:51 to 20:09) and in the midst of a comeback attempt they held the ball for 12 minutes in the 4th QTR ???  Two Dutch possessions that qtr, one goes for the final TD, the other started at the Loras 35 and ended at the Central 36  :-[ :-[

I have no inside information, but if this is a case of failure to get pumped for every game, than that is a sad case.  These guys have to think about the finite number of FB games they get to play in their career.  At the end of it all you take off the pads for the last time and there are no do overs.  No intramural leagues, pick up games, or beer league slow pitch opportunities.  And don't talk to me about adult flag football leagues, who in the h*** wants try to pick some cheap vinyl banner off of a guys arse and hold it over your head, right, nice tackle Florence.  All you get after this is a possible shot at coaching and the joy of second guessing everyone else on Post Patterns.

Sorry fellas, if you need help getting UP for a FB game there is no blue pill for this one. Its sad to see young guys not understand the limited opportunity they have to play this game and thus waste it.

I'm not so sure this was a case of Central not getting up for the game as much as I think it is a case of Loras just playing some really good football at this point in the season.  I think the days are gone where Central and Wartburg automatically have the superior talent and if they lose a game it's because they didn't get up for it.  There are some teams that are just better on any given saturday now.

A not very good Dubuque team gave Central a good game earlier this season.  Loras then beat up Dubuque last week.  I thought perhaps the Dutch were in for a tough game against the Duhawks...though I was hoping that wouldn't be the case!!!

Old Dutch

you're right Doolittle, It does look like Loras was the better team, and they didn't appear to do anything different than in the past, McGrew left and McGrew right.  So, to give up 200 yards in the first qtr and take yourself right out of the game before closing the gap in the end, and do it two weeks in a row is suspect in my eyes.  The conference has had strong parity in the last couple years, only Central had the ponies and attitude to pullout close wins.  Won't matter how many ponies ya got if ya don't have the right attitude for the whole game.  I love the parity, it will the conference all better in the end.

I think it would be combination of 1) Coe can't beat Wartburg 2) Wartburg (athletically) has been the superior IIAC school recently 3) Any school who revels in being the Evil Empire, I think most will dislike this school....
