I feel your pain Heys. I lived in Phoenix for a year, and when it just sprinkled there would always be a least 50 accidents around town. Have .jr have you come back for one of our patented ice storms for some real excitement.

Let me hich a ride on the Ram bandwagon now that ShowMe's space is empty. I hope you win out the season. HMMMMMM would that give BV a second conference loss?
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

Why would you want to hitch a ride on a band wagon rolling backwards toward a cliff?

Not as many pics as doolittle...but a good pic of a packed Carlson Stadium

Nice pic, and thank you for choosing one against Central instead of UD ;)

Carlson Stadium is a great place to watch a football game.  Of course I have liked pretty much every place I have gone to watch a game.

Doolittle dog,

Those are beautiful photos! Man, those Iowa campuses are pretty. I'd enjoy seeing some others, too. I don't have any of the Catdome, but if you go to the Catdome site, you can see some good ones. In the PNW most of the stadiums are covered because of the rain we get out here. We've been lucky this year.

I have looked up photos of some of your NWC teams.  Being a fan of English Soccer, I love to see old style covered stands.  Over the last 15-20 years many of the old stadiums in Britain have been replaced by modern stadiums...and have lost a lot of their character at the same time.   :'(

Congrats to Simpson and Loras on sound wins, and BV and Wartburg for putting everyone else out of arms reach.
As much as it pains me to say, Wartburg is still a better football team than Luther. The Luther (not so special) special teams had another predictable performance. I thought Wartburg made a nice adjustment at half time. They spread the field with 5 wideouts and let Yordie pick his holes on 6 of the twelve plays on the scoring drive to start the second half. They definately found something on the left side of thier OLine in the 2nd half. Harvey looked good, but I'll reserve judgement on that , as I've seen way to much of 165 pound running backs to get to excited about him. I'll give the Knight recievers a lot of credit. They caught everything they touched, and were responsible for a lot of the fiestiness in the game, with their downfield ankle biting and helmets to the knees of the Luther DBs and LBs. That very well may have played a part in the success they had running the ball.
The photo of Reynolds reaching the ball across the goal line may not be conclusive, but the view from the Luther sidelines about the 10 yard line was. The photo does show why the Zebra running in from the Wartburg side on the goal line couldn't see it. It doesn't show the cluster of humanity blocking the view of the guy coming in from the Luther side. That was a top notch crew who did a great job officiating what could have been a very difficult game to call. The bottom line is that the photo was the 2nd down play. Four chances from the one yard line you have to get in the end zone and leave no doubt. (I know what your thinking Floyd) Where the hell is your 240 pound RB?
It would be wrong to recap the game without mentioning Wartburgs defense. They may not be as physically dominating up front as some past teams or of some of the preseason expectations of them, but they are good. And they have some outstanding players behind them. Lansing stuck out the most to me.

Not using the physical RBs around the end zone has been a problem for a few years now, so the situation on Saturday was not a shocker except that the coaching staff is different this year. ???  To have four chances like that and not score is something that Wartburg can be very proud of.  For Norse followers like myself, this is the sort of thing that has to change with the Luther program.

Most Norse followers knew the Norse Defense would give Luther a shot.  At the end of the day the Wartburg Offense was just much better and tougher to defend than what Luther has on offense.  Ditto for special teams.

I have gotten to see the Pittsburgh Steelers quite a bit so far this season and they had me thinking back to the Norse last night.  The Steeler Offense has been up and down so far this year, but the reason that they are 6-2 is because the defense has been outstanding and the special teams has been consistent (except when the long snapper got hurt against New York).  Luther had a good defense in 2003 and 2004 most of the time and has a good defense this year, but when is the last time that the Norse were consistently good on both special teams and defense?  2004 perhaps when Sherden started playing RB and the team started playing well in the 2nd half of the year?

I don't care how the Norse want to move the ball and score points on offense in the future (although I am still a big fan of RBs carrying the ball with FBs and TEs blocking for them), but the team needs to get more consistent on special teams and remain physical up front on defense like this season.  It will be hard to watch those guys graduate up front on defense.

The special teams stuff is just hard to watch at times since a certain coach left after 2004.  It is a shame how many times the special teams have made it hard for the team to win in recent weeks.

Congrats to Wartburg on getting the season moving in the right direction and having a chance now to do something that they have not done in a few years.

Meanwhile Luther will once again have to go to the trophy case and look at stuff from the 1950s-1970s to see what a conference football trophy looks like.

Week Ending

Player of the Week
Nov. 2, 2008

John Blesz, Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa/Kirksville (Mo.)
Blesz, a sophomore kicker/tight end, was called to duty following the late scratch of starting kicker Taylor Buhmeyer and went 4-for-4 on extra-point attempts and made a 27-yard field goal with 5:19 remaining in the game which proved to be the margin of victory in the Duhawks' 31-28 win over Central. The win was Loras' first in Pella since 1941. Blesz, who also caught two passes for 16 yards, was kicking at the collegiate level for the first time.

When was the last time a back-up kicker got player of the week???

Congrats to him, but this is a travesty in a week Tate Harrison had 22 tackles and several offensive performers excelled. The IIAC needs a defensive player of the week category.

Yeah it was kind of cool that they gave it to that guy. He did a heck of a job as our replacement kicker. With that said, the conference has a guy with 20+ tackles and a couple guys going over 200 yards on the ground and they all got shut-out from the honor...?!

Beautiful pictures of the Rock Bowl btw...gave me a nice new desktop.  :)
Not going to lie...Dewey is a pretty good looking bird/furry beaked body builder.

Walston,

Congrats on the win.  Keep it rolling.
Thanks. We were lucky to come away with that one. Blocked 2 punts and had a soph pick off 2 passes and recover a fumble.
With that said, we had to score a TD with 25 seconds left to win. Kind of tells you how the rest of the game went.
No such thing as an ugly win in the playoffs though.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships
