So what happens this weekend?  Does the Wartburg coaching staff fan out around Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota scouting possible first round game competition or do they stay in Waverly wait to see what they can learn from film?  Having a last week bye certainly leaves the Kights some options.

Today's Roll Call:
Who's planning on making the trip here to Cedar Falls to watch some state semifinal action at the UNI-Dome on Friday, Saturday, or Monday?

For my part, I'll be helping an old boss do radio for an 8-man game Friday morning.  May head back over that night for Cedar Falls vs. CR Washington.  Will be there to watch North Tama vs. Northwood-Kensett on Saturday AM, and probably back over that night for West Branch vs. Emmetsburg.  May go back for a game or two on Monday on top of that.  I really cringe at giving that much money to the IHSAA, but it is what it is.

I would be very interested in hearing what you think about this game.  I have read and been told that they have gamebreakers at WR and QB.  I believe Warren Suess' little brother is the QB this year if I am not mistaken.  Did he ever play at Ball State?  Isnt the wide out heading to Iowa City to play for the Hawks once his prep days are done.

Also if you get a chance to watch the IKM Manning game, let me know what you think about that.  I have good friends from Nilla and hunt down there every year.  Good people down that way.  Irish Catholics that do not shy away from the beer!

I was kind of wondering the same thing.  I'd imagine there will be a few of them at the Dome doing some recruiting, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't a couple guys wearing orange and black at Saturday's Monmouth game and/or at least one game featuring the MIAC leaders.

Also, as an exercise science major, let me guess that you're one of those DBs who thinks they know all there is to know about fitness because you read "(insert random demographic)'s Health" every month.  I read the Wall Street Journal every day, but that doesn't mean I could manage a hedge fund.  Get a life.
Actually, I just got my "Fat Lutheran's Health" today. Comes bi weekly.

Anyone expecting a similar game to the one these two played back in the first week of the season will be very surprised.  Wash is one of the highest scoring teams in the state and CF has about the stingiest defense in 4A.  They're allowing less than a touchdown a game so far this year.

The 3rd Suess kid is CRW's QB right now and probably has some D1 prospects himself, just as his two older brothers and his old man did.  Wash has two kids heading to Iowa next fall, the WR Keenan Davis and RB Andre Dawson.  No shortage of star power on that squad.

If I were handicapping the game, I'll tell you that Cedar Falls won't stand up to Wash in a shootout.  A low scoring game definitely favors the Tigers.  If it turns out to be a 14-10 or 17-14 kind of game, its anyone's guess.

My kind of people.  I actually got to see IKM during their title run two years ago.  Also attended a wedding reception in Manilla back in the summer of '05 (marriage of two BV grads to be honest with you).  To say that the beer was flowing would be a massive understatement.

Are there any that do shy away from alcohol???  I don't think I have ever met any ;D

My brother-in-laws family took a long time to get from Cedar Rapids up to Waterloo for their son and my sisters wedding rehearsal.  Thanksgiving and Christmas are usually very late night affairs when they are visiting.  A lot of talk while sharing a bottle of Irish whisky...after many beers beforehand makes the night end just before morning begins.

That CR Wash team is for real.  Not that the MAC was that strong this year, but they kicked a couple of our normally better teams all over the place in the first two playoff games.  I wouldn't bet against them regardless who they were playing.

What are the West's likely first round match ups?

From a travel point of view, I would think:

Willamette at Occidental
Wartburg at Monmouth
Northwestern at Wisc. Stevens Point
Wisc. Whitewater at the winner of the St. John/Carleton game

(This assumes Northwestern, S.P. and Whitewater all win this weekend.  If Northwestern gets beat by St. Thomas who will be team #8?)

I don't think that Northwestern will get a Pool B bid.  That being the case I don't see them getting a pool C bid either.  Redlands is in the hunt for a spot but I think that is a long shot.  I think Monmouth hosting Wartburg is a long shot.  SJU/Carleton could travel to UWSP and Wartburg could go to UWW.  That is if they don't ship in a #1 from the North.  Also in the regional rankings Willamette has been ranked higher than OXY so I think Oxy would go North unless Redlands gets in.  I think that it is a very long shot that there are two plane rides in the West but the NCAA last year did some very surprising things.  This is wide open for the brackets this year.

If Northwestern gets beat by St. Thomas here is how I see it shaking out.  A lot like 2004 when we thought we were heading to Oxy if we won the conference.

SJU vs. Whitewater
Stevens Point vs. Monmouth
Oxy vs. Warburg
Willamette vs. Redlands

You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Doubt they travel much farther than the UNI-Dome this weekend. Too many possibilities to send guys on a wild goose chase when time would be much better spent evaluating next year's talent and making connections to track down some film.

This is bascially the best weekend the evaluate talent in the state.  If was a coach in IIAC I would want kids off those teams, beacuse they have won and know what winning is about.  It does no good to go to my high school and pull kids off a 1-8 team who won 4 games total in high school.

Here we are 5 days from the 86th  renewal of the Central versus those other guys rivalry and people are talking about high school.  Don't people realize this is the longest running college rivalry west of the Skunk River and east of the Middle River?  The only thing that makes me just a little nervous is that the game will be video webcast.  So far this year in TVLand I believe Central is 2 (Dubuque, Coe) and 3 (Wartburg, Luther, Loras).  Hopefully the Dutch have figured out how to keep their good sides to the camera and are past worrying about how the camera adds ten pounds and they can stick to the business of crushing the bad guys.  And getting back to last weeks discussion of mascots, has Simpson figured out a way to dress a student up in foam rubber and terry cloth and anthropomorphize The Storm?
