[5 Words or Less]

5 Words or Less is recovering from pneumonia that he contracted while watching the Cornell vs. Luther game in Decorah last Saturday.  Therefore I, 5 Words or More (aka the evil twin), will try to explain how to make tables.  Besides, this is way over both his word limit and IQ.

In order to avoid confusing the computer software when discussing the how-to's I'm going to substitute curly brackets for the square brackets.  The final example that I give will use square brackets and you can view the final code by hitting the quote key.

There are three checkerboard icons in the middle of bottom row of tags.  The first is unshaded and produces {table}{/table} when hit.  This tells the computer that everyting within the "begin table" and "end table" is going to be ... a table.  The second checkerboard icon has the top row of squares shaded in blue.  This icon displays {tr}{/tr} and indicates the beginning and end of each row of input.  The third checkerboard icon has only one square shaded in blue and displays {td}{/td}.  This is a table delimited field or "cell" in Excel terms.  Use all three icons to build a nested table.

The easiest way that I've found to build a table is to hit the table icon and then hit return to create space between the brackets.  Then type in the information desired.  Example ...

Then I highlight each line first making it a row by hitting the row icon- Example ...

Highligt each data point and hit effect tags (Bold, Color, Underline, etc.) BEFORE hitting the "cell" icon.  It's important to remember that the effect tags build outward from the highlighted data and that the {td} {/td} must bracket all data within a "cell."  I've changed the color of each data item in the heading line to make it easier to see.  Example ...

You can build a evenly spaced table in a few minutes once you get the hang of it.  The finished table looks something like this ...

This table took me 6 minutes to layout after the initial typing was done (whereas the whole post took me roughly 3 hours).  Hint: I also had to add spaces in the heading line in order to create space between the columns after I saw the preview.  Adding spaces in front of the {/u} extended the heading line under "Football" while adding lines outside the bracketed underline markers created column space.

IF you want to pick out an individual line(s) in a quoted response message, make sure to leave the begin/end table brackets and delete the undesired rows.

Simpson Joke of the Day

Four football fans were climbing a mountain one day. Each was a fan of a different IIAC team and each proclaimed to be the most loyal of all fans of their football team. As they climbed higher, they argued as to which one of them was the most loyal of all. They continued to argue all the way up the mountain, and finally as they reached the top, the Wartburg fan hurled himself off the mountain, shouting "This is for the Knights!" as he fell to his doom. Not wanting to be outdone, the Buena Vista fan threw himself off the mountain, proclaiming "This is for the Beavers!"

Seeing this, the Central fan walked over and shouted
"This is for the Dutch!" and pushed the Simpson fan off the mountain.

The Second Simpson Joke of the Day
A Central man and a Simpson man are on a boat ride from Red Rock Lake up the river to Des Moines.  They are going against a swift current but the boat has twin outboard motors so it is moving along.  The Central grad figures the trip will take three hours and they will be in Des Moines in time for lunch.  They don't go far before one of the two motors conks out.  The Central grad says, "That's okay.  We lost one motor.  We can still make the trip in about four hours.  We will still be there in time for a late lunch."  The Simpson man says, "If that other motor quits, I guess we won't be there until dinner."

I called it 5 or 6 weeks ago. I really think BV will have mailed it in and the stars align for CORN'll tomorrow.
It may be the only win the Ramrods get in the next 3 years. But it will set off a huge celebration in Mt Vernon.

I'm torn on this one. I think Cornell has made great strides, but I don't know know that they have the horses to hang with BV. Having said that, BV seems to melt down at the end of the season. They are already out of playoff contention, so what are they playing for? Pride? Keeping Central out of the #2 spot in the conference? Is it enough? I doubt it. BV has more talent, but I think Cornell comes to play and takes it from the Beavers.
