Its never as much work as the women make it out to be.
But I can only type that as my wife is NOWHERE near my computer right now.
We're leaving CF around 4-4:30 Saturday am and coming home after the game.

Who all is going?  I might be interested.  I haven't talked to the Wartburg grad in the family yet to see if he will be working rotations or have that day off.  Father-in-law might be interested as well so might have a car full any way.  How far is it I have not even looked it up yet.

Lets have a little post season award voting.  If anyone is interested, please email me or PM your picks for the following.  If I get a few people interested in doing this, I will post the results.  I'd like to post what everyone is thinking my tomorrow as the coaches will be voting on this tomorrow.

COY
POY
Biggest surprise team of the year (Good)
Biggest surprise team of the year (Bad)
I would like to see what everyone thinks regarding the overachievers and underachievers.

COY - Willis - say what you will about him inheriting a loaded team, plus having recruited the senior class.  It is still hard to take over a team 1 month before the season begins...and take that team to a conference title and a playoff berth.

Honorable mention should go to Anderson at BV...11-13 over the last 3 years, now 6-2 this year.  And Coach Glo at Simpson...9-15 over the last 3 years, 5-3 record this year.  Good job from both of those coaches and either of them would be worthy picks in my opinion.

POY - ???  McGrew???

Biggest surprise team good - BV...small recent recruiting classes with average results to show for it.  Then they go out and finish 6-2 in conference play.  That, to me, outshines Simpson...the Storm improved and are under the direction of a new coach...but they were considered a team that had talent...just needed improved coaching.

Biggest surprise team bad - Dubuque in a landslide, this was supposed to be the year the Spartans showed they weren't just a 1 man show.  Add to that they were opening up a new facility...and they go 1-7 in conference play.  That's no gouda.  I suppose a lucky bounce here or there and they could have picked up wins at Luther, at Central and at Wartburg and gutted out a 4-4 year...but you have to produce on the field...not hope for a lucky bounce here or there.  Honorable mention will go to Central...4-4 is not going to cut it in Pella.

After predicting Cal Lutheran would be in, I should just go back in my hole for the winter...

Agree with choices above --would add Yordi as POY.  He's the leader of that team and they won the marbles -- so that's a pretty good recommendation.

COY - My vote goes to Willis, although I still don't think that's the way the IIAC coaches will go.
POY - As I've said before, I think McGrew gets the nod, although I can see it going to Yordi (deservingly so).
Good Surprise - BV without question.
Bad Surprise - Coe without question.

Wasn't around the computer this weekend, but congratulations to Simpson on the win Saturday.  I really thought when it came down to OT the Dutch would pull out the win, that seems to be the part of the game they play best, but Simpson took care of business and deserved the win.  As I have had to say too often this year, it isn't easy to win at Schipper Stadium unless you are the Dutch.

Best of luck to Wartburg in the playoffs.  Earn some respect back for the IIAC.  I think we took a step back in most eyes this year.  I'm ready to get that respect back.

As to Central's future, nothing but bright.  Lots of young players getting lots of good experience this year.  That will bode very well for our future and I look for the Dutch to go right back to the top of the conference rankings next year, 1st or 2nd, but no lower.  Good running backs in the state will have a great shot at PT as a freshmen at Central.  No reason to look at WB, they are happy with the freshman they have.   ;D ;D ;D  Will Bandow learn to improve on the running game?  Will Lackey improve on the passing game?  Can they put aside their competition for the starting job and teach each other their strengths?  Will a healthy Snead beat them both out?

Who do Central fans peg as best newcomer to the team?  Wong?  Doeden?  Wilken?  Furlong?

Which team is going to be hurt the most by graduation losses?

Walston Hoover

Klompen- Did Snead never come back from his injury, or did the other guy just end up beating him out?

Storm Chaser

First - VERY proud of the Storm -  a couple key turnovers this year -oh and some horrendous officiating and the Storm may have been heading to playoffs.  That said best of luck to Wartburg in playoffs -  do the IIAC proud.

COY   Andersen BV played above everybody's expectations with a very close second to Coach Glo - a new attitude in Indy and I don't think the historic powers are going to want to consider Simpson a likely win any longer.

POY -  Reutzel  -  I only saw McGrew head to head and on that day Adam was the better back -  give him the 60 more carries McGrew got and he averages over 170/game.  OK I'm biased but thats the way I see it.

Biggest surpise good    BV - again above everyones expectations
Biggest surprise bad     Central - they won more than their stats would indicate they should have but still not very Central like.

Trying to get the game in my schedule Sat. May drive if a couple of local Wart buddies & middle wartknight & friends want to go. If not, may be looking at other options.

Snead was out for the season, as were a few other key players the staff was counting on this season.  It's a shame, but Central has suffered more season-ending or season debilitating injuries the last two years to such key people....don't think I can ever recall such a thing in the last 20 yrs.

Can't win consistently in the IIAC while counting on underclassmen.  Unless, of course, your upperclass guys are total studs.

I talked to one of the Central coaches & they felt that Simpson's improvement this year
was born out of some good recruits 2 yrs ago....& that they think a lot of the new Storm HC.

Good Luck to the Warts in the playoffs!

Look me up when you are up there.
I'll probably be with a short, pale-faced, dark haired round guy with glasses, a 12 year old, and a guy most likely with Winona State clothes on. I'll be the one in the obnoxiously orange coat.
Pork Chops, Chili, vegetable pizza, beer, Cap'n Coke, and probaby some Southern Comfort on the menu for Saturday.
I'm going to hit up our Ankeny HyVee, but I doubt they still have the Orange and Black Oreos out. Maybe warthog makes the trip and can provide those.
Hope a good crowd shows up. Be fun to take that place over as it appears they only average around 2k or so at games.

No one ever accused me of not knowing how to eat. Pork chops weren't on the menu until SK chimed in.
Its only 10 and I'm getting hungry thinking about it.
