Will Wartburg or Stevens Point video stream OR audio webcast the game tomorrow ?

Wartburg Audio " www.go-knights.net, the Internet home of Wartburg athletics. Veteran play-by-play man Mark Simpson and former Wartburg assistant coach and player Terry Goetzinger provide the call with an 11:30 a.m. pre-game show."

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

I know he turned me off of Wartburg during my recruiting processes, I just personally didn't want to play for a guy like that...that was a personal thing with me...he gets a ton of talent and I was very surprised to hear how often wartburg fans believe he has been "jimped" out of COY honors.
His quiet confidence and intensity isn't for everyone.
As Warthog's chart showed-no conference coach in the last 20 years has won as much with as little recognition as Coach Willis.

You don't have to like the guy to respect his accomplishments. He should get some recognition for his results.

Willis can be an intense and intimidating guy...but what really surprised me is after graduation.  I figured whenever I saw him it would be a "hello" and that is it.  But he stops and talks with me and catches up with how things are going with me and my family (one of the things my parents loved about Wartburg...the way administration and faculty was so friendly and remembered them).  And to note, I was not on the defense which Willis spent most of his time with as coordinator and I also never started at Wartburg.

Tomorrow at this time I'll be east of Winona on I90. Might even have downed a couple Bloody Marys by then.

Which way are you driving to Steven's Point?  Through La Crosse?

24 hours from now I should hopefully be almost to Steven's Point....of course plans are falling into place tonight for "guys night" due to the opener for deer hunting in Wisconsin tomorrow.  The turkey fryer, cards, and beer are ready.  I'm assuming the "4 Mile" while have their "A" team lined up to work the stage tonight as it should be packed.  I just wish they allowed BYOB like the "Lumberyard" so much easier on the wallet.

That's what I had forgotten to do before today.  Thanks for the reminder.

Purple Heys,

Congrats to you and your son on Honorable Mention.  I think he could have been 1st team or second if Cornell had a little more success as a team.  He was right up there with Burken and Hoerner IMHO.  I know he hurt us worse than either of those two did this year.  However one game does not make a season.  Pass along the compliment to Jr.

Thanks, we're pretty happy that, despite missing 2 whole games plus all but 8 plays of a 3rd game, and playing for an 0-10 team, he earned the respect of opposing coaches.  Basically 3 coaches went into the voting with no in-game frame of reference of his play.  The fact that he got mentioned at all is rewarding to that end.   :)

Still doesn't replace winning a game.   :(

I figure he'll work harder this off-season...    8)

Stevens Point's audio can be found here.  Click on "listen live" at game time. Be warned, the announcing duo isn't the greatest.
Also, UW-SP's still pretty much in the dark ages when it comes to technology - no video, no live stats.

I would like to recognize Coach Willis as a good coach, a good guy, and hereby award him the Barry Switzer Award which is annually awarded to the coach that goes unrecognized for his team's success due to the popular opinion that his team shoulda, oughta won anyway because they were so good to begin with.

dutchfan1 & sportsknight:

I give up trying to figure this stuff out.  Some teams people just love to hate. Oklahoma, U of Miami, Georgetown (basketball), Oakland Raiders, NY Yankees, WDM Dowling and Wartburg.

Add Hawkeyes and Huskers to my list. You're still OK in my book though Warthog.

SK,

I was surprised to see Botembe not on it as well.  I thought he was great last year.  This year he didn't seem to be making the plays against Central that he did last year.  Maybe that is why he just didn't perform at the level he did last year.
I'm not good with names, but wasn't it Botembe who drilled Bandow and made him throw an interception with 9 seconds left, when I was still counting on one more completion (or pass interference call) that would have set up the game winning field goal?  After the second pass interference call in that drive and up to Bandow getting rocked and throwing the pick, I would have bet you a dozen Dutch letters that Central was going to beat Wartburg.  After the pick, the magic was gone.

Yes it was Botembe that hit him at the end.  If memory serves he didn't hit the QB all game till that play.  Good players come up with good plays in the end.

Didn't take the time to learn on how to do a smart looking chart but here are some results

                           Championship Team                      COY

1993                         Wartburg                              Neilson, Wartburg
1994                         Central                                 Schipper, Central
1995                         Central                                 Schipper, Central
1996                         Simpson                                Williams, Simpson
1997                         Simpson                                Williams, Simpson
1998                         Central                                  Kacmarynski, Central
1999                         Wartburg                              Willis, Wartburg
2000                         Central                                  Kacmaryinski, Central
2001                         Central                                  Miller, Cornell
2002                         Central, Coe, Wartburg         Raeburn, Coe
2003                         Wartburg *                            Nieman, Simpson
2004                         Coe, Wartburg                       Osterberger, Buena Vista
2005                         Central                                   McMartin, Central
2006                         Central  *                               McMartin, Central
2007                         Central  *                               McMartin, Central
2008                         Wartburg                                Anderson, Buena Vista

2001, 2003, 2004, 2005 are the only years that the COY was not the conference champ.  2 of those 4 years it was BV.  I can honestly say that those years not to many people expected much out of BV and they were a surprise team.  2003 Simpson got it with only one loss that year to Wartburg and that is before my time paying attention to the IIAC.  I would have to say though I would think that not many people would have been picking Simpson to have that good of a year.  2001 can be said the same for Cornell.  They had three losses that year but for that group and that school it was a great accomplishment.  So to have a team that has two more losses than you as in 2001 is no more a tragedy than 2003 and having the winner only have one more loss than you.  (the bone to throw to the Knights is that Wartburg went undefeated that year)  So there is no guarantee that the COY comes from the Champ.  Conference records only go back to 01 so I did not research the records prior to that.

Edit
* undefeated seasons
