THis is my weekend sign-off post. Heading up to the dome and then to a place where the beer flows like wine, a place like Stevens Point.

Drive safe and look forward to the posts on your return.

So, did I just miss the comments or doesn't anyone care...the IIAC website says that Brautigam is out at UD. Reasons?

Somewhat surprises me...was this known for a while? or a end of the year thing?

The lack of post season recognition is just more proof that Wartburg is the team everyone loves to hate. I guess I'd rather be a winning program year in and out rather than get post season honors.

Does this change signal an end to the Florida/UD pipeline?

That is a pretty big house cleaning at UD.  Somewhat surprises me about Brautigam because they had stuck by him through some pretty lean years.  Interesting that Brautigam, Davis, and Ross were let go but not Jeremy Fellows who was the OC.  I am curious to see what direction they go.

Interesting that the Iowa Conference page has the news but nothing is on the UD website.

I still just don't see it, though.  After all, Willis is far from the biggest prick that's coached in the IIAC in the past decade.  Cough...Raeburn...Cough, cough.

Willis was just as much a prick as Raeburn, if not more.

I am shocked at this.  I didn't think that he did all that bad of a job.  He brought them up and got them out of the bottom.  Not an easy thing to do.

The UD team did take a step back this year from a won/loss view.  But different from past Spartan teams is they were still competitive with other teams.  No real blowouts.  It took a 45 yard FG with 1 minute left for Central to get by them.  They took Wartburg into OT.  Plus, as many on here have stated, past UD teams had bigger mouths that talent levels.  This Spartan team looked to keep their mouths shut and looked to have good sportsmanship.

Others on here that have coaching contacts might know a different story.  Maybe coach B lost the team.  That does happen sometimes where a coach that has been with a team for a long time loses the players and they stop playing for him.  Maybe that is the case here, I don't know.

I will be interested to see how they go about their coaching search.  They certainly have good facilities at UD now.  Whoever they bring in better have good recruiting contacts because there isn't a pipeline of local talent knocking on the doors of UD.

Here is the Dubuque Telegraph-Herald story on the coaching change.

From my point of view I think I would have given Brautigam 1 more year.  That way you could tell if this was just an anomoly and a 1 year rebuilding thing...or were the last 2 years just the Jermar effect and a coaching change was needed.

I just saw an imbalance when #1 Defense gets 2  and #6 defense get 6  - seemed out of whack.  And I do find it psychologically easier to pick on Wartburg :)
You can take your "#1 defense" in yards and I'll take my "#1" defense in points and I'll win that battle 10 years in a row.

In most caes I'd agree with you but points some times don't reflect that the offense / kicking game can put the defense in very tough field  position which is exactly what happened to Simpson particularly early in the year.  Take away the 21 points spotted to BV in the first quarter on turnovers and a 9 yard punt and Simpson also leads in Points Allowed on the season and thats " The Rest of the Story" as Paul Harvey would say.

Didn't see this coming...but...

Could it be, as big money is spent on the facilties, there's more money to back a more expensive coach and staff to help fill that new stadium?

I'm sure UD probably has the money to do a big search.  And probably can afford to pay more for a coach than other schools.  But at the D3 level does paying more for someone really get you THAT much more in a coach???  I don't know that answer.

Here is a thought.  Brautigam and his long time assistant and DC Jay Davis are let go.  Jeremy Fellows the OC is still there.  Jeremy Fellows brother was a HS coach in Michigan and started the Michigan pipeline of talent to UD.  He is now a JC coach in Cali and recently there has been an influx of players to UD from California.  I wonder if Mr. Fellows might become the next HC at UD???

Here is a question for the Kohawks.  Do you think that Brockmeyer benefitted and got first team by having Breitbach back there with him?  By this I mean did teams avoid Breitbach and try to pick on Brockmeyer and he benefitted that way?  I don't remember him in the Central game.

I remeber when John Costello was named all-american, then comes Rich Matthews and he got more honors than John because no one would throw towards John.
You may be right.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

You may be right.

Brockmeyer was a safety - his coverages rolled to the weak side of the field (i think he was Free), thus there was a 50-50 shot that he was on the same side as Breitbach.  Brockmeyer probably benefited from his closing speed.
A better example of this for Coe was 3 years ago Nick Hirth benefited from teams not wanting to throw Tyler Stakers way (both Cornerbacks)  and then 2 years ago Tommy benefiting from teams not wanting to throw Hirths way.  Safety's dont benefit from a good CB like the opposite CB does.
