Don't listen to anything D O.C. says. He's one of those California surfer dudes.

Interrogative...because he has stupid opinions? ...or because he's a surfer dude?

Congratulations to you, DBQ1965, on a fine, honorable profession. I'm sure you were a credit to it. Having preached in 80 churches, you clearly touched many lives in a positive way.

Speaking of churches, that nutjob church from Kansas apparently is coming out to Oregon to protest the politics of a town near Salem. Silverton elected an openly transgender mayor, and they are happy with their choice. I don't get why those Kansas wackos feel the need to bring their hatred out here to demonstrate about it.

Can't the rest of you put a fence around them?

Thanks coco.

Ministry may be an honorable profession ... but it has more than its share of dishonorable scoundrels ... and that's not including the Westboro crowd.  In my opinion, they don't rate even being called dishonorable scoundrels.

As far as IIAC schools go, they represent a diversity of programs, students, faculty, etc. ... and each one brings a certain strength to the Conference.  Granted, Cornell does have the aura of being the best academic institution and maybe that is true overall ... but individual departments within the schools often can stand on their own with anyone.  The aviation program at UD helped get it back on its feet and put it on the map.  For what its worth, UD has its second Lodi, California student in 40 years thanks to aviation ... I was the first but no aviation in those days).

In sports, the competition and the rivalries among the schools are great.  Sometimes one school will dominate for a while ... but the door is always open for another school to break into the picture.

There are other things to be said ... but I'll leave that to others on the board.

SPARTANS FOREVER!
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

coco:  Take what TME says with a grain of salt.  I'm not sure what his beef is with Coach Willis, but I'm confident he is in a minority with his thoughts.

i have no beef with Willis - that was like 5 years ago.  CoCo was asking why people think they way they do about Willis, and why he might not have gotten COY.  I know that he is a proven winner.  I know other coaches said things when you chose school X over their school.  It was what he said to one of my fellow teammates that really got to me, and the rest of my teammates (doesnt need to be said).  I just thought that it was very classless

i do know that i was not in the minority with my thoughts though... not a lot of non-wartburg alum will back him.

In the recruiting process for IIAC schools.  Do coaches only talk about football to recruits or do they talk up the whole school and work to hook up recruits to department heads and talk up the majors their school offers?

Also, in the last year we have heard stories about Central projecting an image too squeeky clean to be believed.  We have heard stories of Wartburg talking negative of other programs.  Any other interesting recruiting stories out there???

Generally, coaches talk about the school, introduced you to department heads if you have an idea of where you want to go and what you want to study.  They talk about what the city has to offer (In CR - Kernals, RoughRiders, ect...)  Realy anything that will get you interested to go to their school.

Keep in mind this was now 10 years ago- but I was introduced to nearly everyone on the campus that I may have something to do with at Wartburg. Coaches mostly talked up their programs and then introduced us to other people in the other areas we were interested in and let those people talk up their programs. While I was in school, the Wartburg Highlight tape did all the selling.

My experience was education first.  Maybe that was because I had my parrents with me on my visits ;D  All of the coaches wanted to know what post graduation goals were, or at that point in time what area I thought I wanted to head in.  As most college kids do, I changed my mind and they were there to assist me.

The decision that locked me into BV was the school of business.  When they showed me how it was built and what how much technology they poured into make it as state of the art as possible, I was hooked.  I got meet some of the professors.  All of them had been in the real world and taught their classes more from a real world prospective than a text book prospective.  That I wore blue and white in high school and liked the idea of staying in those colors.

I dabbled bit in psychology in college.  I really liked it and at one time thought that is what field I wanted to go into.  There have been many studies over the course of time regarding colors and what makes people feel good/intices them.

I am not making a psycological assumption by any means.  But for the players and parrents out there, did the high school colors translate to college colors?  Some might feel comfortable wearing the same colors they did in high school, while others might have wanted to wash away those colors and trade them in for new ones.  Anybody have any thoughts on this?

I don't think the school colors have a thing to do with it.  If that was the case my son would have been a Knight instead of Dutch.

The coaches at all of the IIAC schools that called my son were more than willing to get them in touch with profs and others to see if they wanted to go there.  They paired them up with players with similar majors for campus tours.  I can say that all of the on campus visits were a good experience.

I would have been a KoHawk...or a Cyclone :o  Of  course, I wasn't being recruited...not by any sports teams anyway!!!

So, in the recruiting process.  Is it a good thing to pair up a kid with another football player with a similar major?  Or pair him up with a hot cheerleader with a morally casual attitude???  Might depend if this kid is taking a tour with his parents or is on his own!!!

Depends on the kid, but I would guess 9 times out of 10 you can't go wrong with a cheerleader :-*

Well depends on if the current girlfriend is along and looking at the college as well.  That could spell trouble.

That and if the mother is along! ;D ;D ;D ;D
