So, in the recruiting process.  Is it a good thing to pair up a kid with another football player with a similar major?  Or pair him up with a hot cheerleader with a morally casual attitude???  Might depend if this kid is taking a tour with his parents or is on his own!!!
Depends on the kid, but I would guess 9 times out of 10 you can't go wrong with a cheerleader :-*

Well depends on if the current girlfriend is along and looking at the college as well.  That could spell trouble.

Or complete awesomeness!

Cue funky jazz music - bow chicka wow wow.
When it's 3rd and 10, you can take the milk drinkers, and I'll take the whiskey drinkers every time.

I'm pretty sure that it's 3 out of 10 at Luther.  ;)

In the recruiting process for IIAC schools.  Do coaches only talk about football to recruits or do they talk up the whole school and work to hook up recruits to department heads and talk up the majors their school offers?

Also, in the last year we have heard stories about Central projecting an image too squeeky clean to be believed.  We have heard stories of Wartburg talking negative of other programs.  Any other interesting recruiting stories out there???
As a parent, I did go along on the initial visits to IIAC schools and others.  However, the kid went back by himself to some of the schools for overnight visits before making his decision.   I'll admit, I was nervous at the idea of a "college overnight" considering he was still a HS senior and had his final HS seasons of basketball, track and baseball still ahead of him.  (Fortunately, there were no infractions of the "good conduct policy" reported and he made it to all the visits and back in one piece.)  Still not sure EXACTLY what went on during those overnights-probably never will.   ;)

the overnight is usually the seller if you have a tough decision between a handful of teams... it's where you can find out if you would fit in with other guys on the team when the coaches arn't around.

Don't listen to anything D O.C. says. He's one of those California surfer dudes.

Interrogative...because he has stupid opinions? ...or because he's a surfer dude?

Inquiring surfer dudes want to know.    8)

I've known D O.C. for over 40 years and was just giving him a hard time.
Believe me, I've got nothing against surfers.

I came to Linfield sight unseen, without any visit at all.

I have sat in on a variety of recruiting visits in the past few years....I have never heard any of the coaches really talk bad about any other school.   In fact, more coaches have said things like "it is important to look at as many schools as you can to make sure you have the right fit, etc.."

Most of the time, the school visit is pretty simple...show a variety of things to spark the kids interest, talk about academic opportunities, football opportunities, have them fill out something, and try to get them to come on a visit.  Obviously, some players are recruited more heavily than others.

Warthog:  Good deal, hopefully we will run into you down their.  A few co-workers will be with me, one of them has a brother that plays for the Knights.   Don't know if I will be able to talk the hunters into coming or not (trying my best)...should be fun and hopefully not too cold.

I would have been a KoHawk...or a Cyclone :o  Of  course, I wasn't being recruited...not by any sports teams anyway!!!

LOL -- nice reference to Animal House, Doolittle.

I love that movie!  ;)

I don't think the school colors have a thing to do with it.  If that was the case my son would have been a Knight instead of Dutch.

The coaches at all of the IIAC schools that called my son were more than willing to get them in touch with profs and others to see if they wanted to go there.  They paired them up with players with similar majors for campus tours.  I can say that all of the on campus visits were a good experience.

I wasn't say that school colors had anything to do with it.  I was asking if anyone felt drawn to one school or another based off of colors.  Like Maslow's dogs and the ringing bells.

Did anyone see this 10-year-old kid's highlight video posted on SI.com? I'm sure there are a ton of videos like it, but man, this kid's a stud.

BB- Look us up. We're going to try and roll in around 9.
You won't have any trouble finding me during the game.
Looks like we recruited about 6-8 more ex players/coaches for Saturday and even possibly coerced an ex Simpsonite with promises of free beer.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

This just in:  Young Ben has been suspended  for a mandatory 4 games by the Greater Ulmsdale Valley Pop Warner Football Association when he tested positive for high traces of Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs.

Did someone say "free beer" ?!?! ;D ;D ;D

You know, I have an orange sweatshirt and an orange winter coat I could throw on saturday!!!

Though I suppose that after hosting my side of the family on Friday my wife will have just a bit of cleanup around the house for me to do on Saturday.  Hopefully I will be able to watch or listen to the game this week.

Go Knights!!!
