Cue up the old SportsCenter music, because its time for a little Monmouth College "Did You Know?"

-  Monmouth was founded on April 18, 1853 (a year after Wartburg), and the school still celebrates that date as "Founders Day."  Classes are cancelled for a day of celebration and an honors convocation.  Sounds a bit like Wartburg's Outfly, but with a convo.

-  Monmouth was one of the first college nationally to admit women and became a center of the women's sorority movement.  Pi Beta Phi was founded at Monmouth in 1867, with Kappa Kappa Gamma following in 1870.

-  Monmouth has won the last two Midwest Conference men's all-sports trophies.

-  The Fighting Scots' highest national finish in any sport came at the 2007 National Outdoor Track Championships, where they finished third.  Comparatively, Wartburg has won 7 national team titles in the past 13 years.

-  The Monmouth-Knox football rivalry is the 6th oldest in the nation.  The teams traditionally played on Thanksgiving for the Bronze Turkey trophy.  The trophy has been stolen at various times in the series' history, which dates back to 1888, including a six year stretch where it was buried underneath Monmouth's old indoor track.

-  Famous alumni:  Jim Pate '63, former CEO of Pennzoil;  Dwight Tierney '69, Senior Exec. VP of Viacom and one of the founders of MTV;  Admiral James Stockdale '46, Navy Vice-Admiral and candidate for Vice-President.

How about some good single malt?

Unfortunately, I don't think that is consumed best from a non-clear plastic cup.   :)

Are we going to be hassled by rentacops Saturday?
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

It's possible, if you don't mind your P's and Q's.  I noticed a handful of them walking around last Saturday.  Our campus doesn't have a lot of tailgaiting experience and the administration gets a little jumpy whenever alcohol is involved.  Don't draw tons of attention to yourself and I think you'll be fine.

First post since the USP game (I hate it when life gets in your way!) Quick note on the game - awesome from the play on the field, the tailgating, & the # of Knight fans in attendance. We still have some room to produce more noise during the game..... Will try & roll in around 9 - 9:30 Sat. Won't wait until 10:30 Fri night to make the decision to go like I did last week! The drive Sat will seem like a stroll in the park after battling through the snow & 2 lane traffic last week. Look forward to having a beverage with WH, SK,etc again!!

Yes, that may be a bit of an issue. On top of that, with some of the other guys coming this weekend, I may be considered the tame one.

Not bad research there.  One correction: The MC men have won the last four MWC all-sports trophies.  A couple other alumni of note are Harold "Red" Poling 49, former president of Ford Motor Company, and (since we're on a sports board) Joe Tait '59, the long-time (longest tenure currently in the NBA?) play by play voice for the Clevland Cavaliers.

I would recommend the parking area by the tennis courts.  That is where we tailgated the last time Wartburg was there.  The rent-a-cops passed through and it appeared Barney Phyfe was going to approach a student tailgate.  Andy Taylor pointed out that the entire parking lot was full of similar festivities, so Barney got back in the car and they just sat at the parking lot entrance and watched.  A former Knight who is now a Knox Prairie Fire indicated to her dad this was also how it was this year.

For our 2007 tailgate we set up a couple tables and had our Bloody Mary and Long Island Iced Tea stuff with us.  The pre-game, half-time and post-game tailgates went off without incident.  Of course we weren't yelling "F*** Monmouth" or anything, so we didn't exactly cause any alarm.

We'll see everybody around 10:00/10:30 on Saturday.  Bring your can openers, because the Knights are going have some containers of Whoop-Ass with them.

True ... but if that is the only cup available ... go for it.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

At breakfast this morning we were trying to remember what the sign at the Monmouth tennis court parking lot said.  Something along the lines of: "Thank you for respecting that Monmouth College is an alcohol free campus."

Ya, OK whatever you say.

DBQ1965:
I actually kind of enjoyed the bagpipes at the last Monmouth game.  We struck up a conversation with some of the students after their half-time show.  It is kind of a big deal at Monmouth.  Bagpiping is a lost art in the United States, so some of the best musicians at Monmouth come from Canada.  They get music scholarships and earn extra money giving lessons.  There weren't as many musicians on the field, but it sort of reminded me of the old University of Iowa Highlanders.
