-  The Fighting Scots' highest national finish in any sport came at the 2007 National Outdoor Track Championships, where they finished third.  Comparatively, Wartburg has won 7 national team titles in the past 13 years.  Can you elaborate on those national titles for the non-burg fans?

6 Wrestling, 1 girls womens outdoor track.

Exactly.  Wrestling in '96, '99, '03, '04, '06, and '08 and the womens track squad in 2005.

The women also came oh-so-close in both indoor and outdoor track in 2007, losing by one point in each to the University of Rachel Anderson (er, I mean IWU). ;)

Scottie or anyone else in the know-
Are we going to be hassled by rentacops Saturday?

The group I was with last Saturday morning over by the tennis courts got hassled a little bit by the campus cops.  Not sure why because we really weren't being noisy or causing any problems for people around us, as it was too darn cold for any of that...but none the less, we still had the security presence making trips through our groups for awhile.  We were drinking from our non-clear plastic cups, so maybe for this weekend an actual mug will be my choice of beverage-holder.  Hopefully that will keep them away. ;)

The pipeband routine is mainly pre-game these days.  If they are still on campus this weekend, they will come out about 20 minutes before kick-off and parade around the track.  Then, they fire up the pipes once more as the Good Guys come back out onto the field.  Pretty cool and unique.

The halftime entertainment has been replaced with the relatively new MC marching band, which is actually pretty large and doesn't sound half bad.

Why are the lyrics from "Dancin in the street" starting to pop into my head.  Damn!

Can't wait to hear the bagpipes again this weekend--still gets me going every time I hear them!

So, in the recruiting process.  Is it a good thing to pair up a kid with another football player with a similar major?  Or pair him up with a hot cheerleader with a morally casual attitude???  Might depend if this kid is taking a tour with his parents or is on his own!!!
Depends on the kid, but I would guess 9 times out of 10 you can't go wrong with a cheerleader :-*

I'm pretty sure that it's 3 out of 10 at Luther.  ;)

+K for that! Are you sure you aren't a Knight fan?

Well, I was going to say they had to fit me with an extra long kilt so that I couldn't be accused of showing off ;)

But, the reality is I had a roomate from Brazil...who's dad was from Scotland.  Also, another dorm friend grew up in England and he confirmed this story regarding true Scotsmen and their kilts.

Sorry that I didn't have some wild story for you about some scotswoman I met, a bottle of scotch, and the lock ness monster!!!

BB- Look us up. We're going to try and roll in around 9.
You won't have any trouble finding me during the game.
Looks like we recruited about 6-8 more ex players/coaches for Saturday and even possibly coerced an ex Simpsonite with promises of free beer.

Not sure if I am part of that 6-8 count but you can throw me in there, I am doing everything possible to make it down there.  Got off of work Saturday night so things are looking pretty sure.  I am trying to see if I can't get another ex-player or two to come along with me as well.

BTW:  Not add a morbid tone to the board, but we had bagpipes at my grandmothers funeral and there was nothing more impressive than hearing those babies belt out the sweet Scottish music.

Sorry to hear that, Klopenhiemer.  But, yes, you're right....When played well, bagpipes are actually a beautiful instrument. (When played badly, they are brutal.)  I hope that the majority of our pipeband is still in town to play during the pregame on Saturday.  Since several of them are Canadian, I don't suppose they rushed home for Thanksgiving.  :) It's a top-notch pipeband which brings a nice little touch to the Monmouth gameday experience.

For anyone really bored at work or trying to just fill time til Thanksgiving.  This bagpipe clip from "Friends" always makes me laugh.

DBQ1965:
I actually kind of enjoyed the bagpipes at the last Monmouth game.  We struck up a conversation with some of the students after their half-time show.  It is kind of a big deal at Monmouth.  Bagpiping is a lost art in the United States, so some of the best musicians at Monmouth come from Canada.  They get music scholarships and earn extra money giving lessons.  There weren't as many musicians on the field, but it sort of reminded me of the old University of Iowa Highlanders.

I thought they were only good at hockey?

Skating bagpipers...can you just imagine?

YOu are counted in the original, not in the 6-8 MORE group.
Lets see, we've got a washed up exQB, a 3 washed up OL covering Center, Guard, and Tackle, a too slow safety that had balls of steel returning punts, a slow, weak middle LB that led the league in dropped INT's, and a former student coach who has a D2 national championship ring. Might also have a former whipping boy from our suite as well.

I'm working on getting an exFB who has been down graded to a tropical storm since graduating college to come along as well.

I run into that kid every once in a while at football functions. Still doesn't talk much, but boy was he a monster on the field.
