I was shocked no said pumkin pie.

I hadn't responded yet. Pumpkin Pie with a generous portion of whipped cream on top is the best part of Thanksgiving. Delish!

Second answer: anything that I don't have to make!  ;)

Warthog or anyone else in the know from that area-
I'm getting 2 different routes from Iowa City, 1 has me taking 80 over to 74,
The other has me taking 218 down to 34 and over through Burlington.
WHich is going to be faster?

It looks like I have to backtrack about 15 or so miles by taking 80 and I didn't know if the interstate driving made up for that.
It probably doesn't since its only about 50 miles to go on HWY 34.

I would take the road less traveled by, for that will make all the difference.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

80 and 74 will probably work best, if you prefer cruise control driving.  Monmouth is a short 15 miles west of Galesburg (four-lane) once you exit off of 74 to 34.   34 is all two-lane from Burlington.

Thanks Scottie. That was the way I was planning until a new route popped up today. I'm going to have to take some of the weights out of my shoe this weekend with all the mounties out on their horses.
How long from getting across the boarder until I get to Monmouth? By eyeballing it I'd say just under an hour?

As I zoom in the map a little farther, it looks like 67 may be the road to take. Probably shave 30 miles off the trip, and only two small towns to go through (Oak Grove and Viola)
Anyone in the know care to confirm that for me?

67 from the quad cities takes only about 45 to 50 minutes to Monmouth

That sounds like a winner then.

Just got done printing off my directions for this weekend (I really think I need to get one of those GPS things for my car, so handy).  I have to work Friday night but then I will be crashing at a friends house that night in North Liberty, wake up by 7am and on the road in less than two hours to Monmouth.

Weather report right now for Monmouth on Saturday is high of 45 with clouds.  Don't think I will need to bundle up like I did at Stevens Point...WH, hockey jersey again?  or do I wear my old #74 jersey from Wartburg?

Since Jr. is going to the game I went to the Monmouth web-site and got:

At Iowa City, take the I-80 EAST exit and travel east toward DAVENPORT.
Just before DAVENPORT, take the I-280 EAST/US-6 EAST exit and drive about 10 miles.
Then take the IL-92 WEST exit.
At the STOPLIGHTS go straight onto 92nd AVENUE.
Take 92nd AVENUE for about 3 miles, then turn right on US-67 SOUTH.
Drive approximately 40 miles on this road until you approach the city of Monmouth.
Continue straight through the stop light at the junction of (there will be a McDonalds on the right), this is MAIN STREET.
Take MAIN STREET into town to the PUBLIC SQUARE (about 10 blocks) and go 3/4 of the way around the square (actually a circle) and head EAST on EAST BROADWAY toward Monmouth College.

What kind of man are you?  Columbus didn't need GPS.  Daniel Boone didn't need GPS.  The thing missing from modern life is adventure.  Just fill the gas tank, figure the compass heading from where you are to Monnmouth and hit the road.  I have seen some interesting sights while I was lost.

I'm considering busting out the Old 64 from my freshmen year. The sleeves are cut so deep on it that it shows my nipples. May be a nice touch to celebrate some warmer weather.
