Congrats to the Knights!

I guess you wanted to give everyone their money's worth, didn't you?

Congratulations, also, to the Scots on a fine season.

Good job Knights way to find a way.  Congrats to the Scots on a good season as well.  The IIAC going to the Regional finals two years in a row says something for us out here in Iowa.

Congrats to Coach Morrison on his play calling that last 1:34 of the came. They move the ball with percision.

Congrats...and welcome to Whitewater, Wartburg Knights...at least they won't have to worry about a snow covered skating rink to play on like it's been the last 3 years this time of year. The new field turf should make it easier clearing the snow, if it falls this week.

Forecast calls for snow Friday night and on/off on Saturday...temp 31.

The warthog clan are probably some of the first to land at home.  The short 50 mile jaunt down to Monmouth was a breeze compared to last week.

I have to admit I was scared with the events at the end of the first half.  Those of us sitting on the Monmouth side saw one good thing as time ran down in the half, that was that the Monmouth defense seemed to be getting gassed.  Their offense had no such problem.  That outfit is a machine.

The game sure had an ebb and flow that always seemed to keep the Knights within striking distance.  With seven seconds left they took the lead.  I guess if you're only going to be ahead for seven seconds, that is the seven seconds to do it.

I can't figure out why Monmouth didn't go for the field goal on 4th down with time winding down.  Had they taken a 7 point lead instead of holding on to the 4 point lead, the Wartburg missed extra point on the last touchdown would have preserved a Monmouth win.  I'm sure there was a reason, I just don't know it.

Wartburg's physical conditioning played an important part of the game in the second half.

I usually am just happy to get a Wartburg win.  Getting it the way it happened after listening to the loud mouth, smart ass punk from Monmouth for three quarters, fourteen minutes and fifty-three seconds was especially nice.  Just a suggestion to the young fellow; if you plan to make comments like, "You're a bunch of losers.  Go back to where ever the hell Waverly is.", you should really be sure your team has safe lead.

And D Coordinator  Dettwiler and players for pitching a shut out the 2nd half.
Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

In a note of interest to Wartburg fans concerning the D-II playoffs.  Grand Valley State and their four former Wartburg football coaches lost in overtime to Minnesota-Duluth coached by former Wartburg head-coach Bob Nielsen.

And rumored to be the next AD at Upper Iowa.  The farther they make it into the D2 playoffs maybe he could change his mind?  The rumor is he is tired of his football team taking a back seat to hockey and also wants to get closer to home.

Since WH's wife is dragging him to some party tonight, I guess I'll beat him to the punch here.

Great win for Wartburg today.  As its been said already, they never gave up despite a less than great first half and made big plays when they had to.  I can't say enough about this year's senior class and the way they've led the team this year.  To figure that midway through the season it looked like they were going to be the first class in a long while to go through Wartburg and never see the playoffs, to today when they make program history with this win.  Great stuff.

There are definitely some things to work on for next Saturday though.  The defense did not look very good for most of the game, although they deserve a bundle of credit for keeping Monmouth out of the endzone in the second half.  Wartburg's running game was about as good as its been all year, but the receivers had a case of the drops today.  All the way around, the performance will need to be sharper next Saturday.

I was also very surprised that Monmouth didn't kick the field goal on that last 4th down.  But now that I look at their kicking stats, their two PKs are 6-12 on the year.  The long was 41 and today's kick would have been a 38 yarder.  On top of that, their kickers haven't made a FG since the Scots play Ripon 5 weeks ago.

Vetter's catch was unreal.  Two defenders right there and he just went up and got the ball.  He said after the game that he knew Yordi was going to throw him a jump ball and he'd have to go up and get it, and that's exactly what he did for the biggest catch of his life.  Talk about sweet redeption - to go from dropping what would have been a sure TD and losing a "fumble" inside the 10 (there was no way he had possession of the ball and it should have been an incompletion) to making the game-winning play would have been, as he put it "a roller coaster."

Another very good Wartburg crowd on hand today, and it was sure worth the trip.  Hopefully our numbers will be just as good next Saturday.

Wow, Just made it back from Monmouth, and I'm still in awe of the 2008 Knights! Stood in the endzone with some former Knights and it just was an amazing game. As can be seen on the front page of D3 football, there were 3 scots within 5 yards of Vetter, but none were in position to make a play, great pitch and catch from Yordi to Vetter. Big Win for the knights and excited for next weekend!

Your right I should have mention Dettwiler and his D

Well, whether you like it or not that was a HUGE win today for the Knights and a Big win for the IIAC.
This will come in handy the next time our 2nd place team is on the bubble to make the playoffs.

I'd like to thank Monmouth  for not having a consistent kicker and going for it on 4th & 12 to give the Knights their shot to win the game.

What a great comeback by the D to go from giving up 28 in a half to pitching a shutout in the 2nd stanza.

Now all I need is WB to win again Saturday and play @ Mary-Hardin- Baylor since my grandparents live 15 minutes from their stadium.

There's an interesting coaching story line as we begin the countdown to the regional final at Whitewater.  If folks remember back 2 years, Wartburg HC Wilis was one of 4 who interviewed for the Whitewater HC position vacated by the retirement of Brez.  Former Warhawk player and assistant coach Lance Leipold got the job and is 24-2 since taking the helm of the Warhawks.

I was also very surprised that Monmouth didn't kick the field goal on that last 4th down.
That whole sequence of events has to make it tough to sleep tonight for Monmouth fans. Third and 1 on the eleven and the Knights out of time outs. A false start, delay of game and two incomplete passes. Forget the field goal, two running plays and it's doubtful the Knights have time to score.
It would have been equally tough for Knight fans if they hadn't pulled it out, with all the points they left on the field today. From the missed pick six on the first drive  to the wide open drop to the turnover in the red zone and just getting 3 off the fumble recovery at the five.
