I have a mulit-layered  Whitewater trivia question for any IIAC poster...+K for any right answer - if one poster can answer all them, +K for a week!

* Who is the noted and often criticized university professor, historian, and author/presidential biographer who grew up in Whitewater and graduated from Whitewater HS?

Stephen Ambrose, biographer of Presidents Eisenhower and Nixon and author of Band of Brothers, on which the award-winning miniseries was based.

* What is he/she known for (the good, the bad, the ugly - there are many)?

Some of the good listed above, but he was also the military advisor for the movie "Saving Private Ryan."  Bad would be that he plagarized some of the content of his book The Wild Blue.  He's also been accused of not completely researching some of his later works.

* What is his/her connection to UWW?

Other than being a Whitewater native?  Good question.  Wasn't listed on Wikipedia.

Very impressive sportskknight...you earned +K  x 3

He was born in Illinois, but grew up in Whitewater before going to university at UW-Madison.

Didn't he briefly attend Whitewater?

Good try, but your not an IIAC poster - but I'll give you +k even with your wrong answer.

The real answer is (drum roll plz):

UWW's Ambrose Health Center is named for his father, who was a long time professor at UWW, I believe.

It costs 2k to rent UW-W's Perkins Stadium including pressbox and lights, etc. for 8+ hours.

University admins being money-grubbing types, I just got them to rent me the place on Saturday for a considerable sum more than that (plus some extra sharp California cheese from our happy cows).

The upshot is that game you all had planned for Saturday, is going to need to be moved to Waverly.  I'm gonna be using the field that day to play frisbee with my dog Skred.    8)

Oh, yeah, Heys?

I'll match my frisbee-catching Skylar against your dog any day.  He may be 9, but he runs and jumps like a puppy.

+k for having a frisbee dog!
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Moore from Ballard Huxley. I showed him around on his recruiting visit. He had to be pushing 30 last year playing for them. Not quite sure how he ended up there, but I'm pretty sure it was not a direct route from Wartburg to Whitewater.

30 is a bit of an exaggeration, pushing 25 or 26, maybe.

Since when did this become evil the offspring of Trivial Pusuit and the Algonquin Round Table?

Isn't there some sort of football contest being played on Saturday? Or will the Knights only be allowed on the field if they answer my questions three?

Game storylines:

Can Wartburg slow the UW-W running attack; can Wartburg run on the Warhawks or will they even try if Boom and Hervey are slowed...

If they can't they are in for a long afternoon.  We've been very successfull defending the rush this season surrendering an average of 75.9 net yards per game.  Williamette however was able to move the ball on the ground more successfully than any other opponent.

Will UW-W outside DB's bottle up the Wartburg receivers, will UW-W copme out throwing to catch Wartburg off guard...

This is a good question.  Opponents have been more successfull through the air against us than on the ground gaining 1559 yards.  If Wartburg is going to win it will mostly likely be because they were successfull in passing the ball.  We're pretty balanced offensively with 1823 yards rushing and 1718 yards passing.  Our initial drives against Williamette included several passing plays which were successfull.  It would be a mistake to overplay one aspect of our offense to the determent of the other.

Should UW-W jump out to an early 2 TD lead, can Wartburg even hope to come back; If Wartburg jumps out to a quick lead, can they hold it...

We've scored on our first possession several times this year and only one opponent, St John's, has taken an early lead against us.  That was short lived.  Getting on top early has been a strength and undoubtedly played a part in our success this season but nobody panics when we don't.

Will Wartburg's deceptive team speed pose any kind of issue for UW-W...

Are you faster than Williamette?  They weren't deceptive, they were just flat out fast and you could see it.  We were relatively successfull in that contest.  One question I would ask you is will Wartburg be able to deal with our physicality?  We will play very physical.

Does UW-W count an easy victory and get caught by surprise; or does Wartburg come out flat and pack it in happy to have made it this far...

No way, no how.  That isn't in the nature of this team or our staff.  Wartburg may beat us but it won't be because we were wondering how we'd beat Mary Harden Baylor,  Washington & Jefferson or Mount Union.  I guarantee you that at this moment the staff and team are focused on one thing and that is beating Wartburg.  We know you beat Stevens Point and Stevens Point beat us.  They take nobody for granted.

Just my opinions.

Not sure how we would have compared to Willamette, but I don't think anyone who saw Wartburg play SP would say the Knights are slow and nonphysical.
Wartburg will throw the ball, and then throw some more. And when they need to, ONLY when they need to pretty much, they will run the football, and do it with just enough success to make it worth it.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Good, sound editorial from someone who has a BADGER as their picture here!!  Takes a good, true-blood fan to not change that picture after how the Badgers floundered their year away.  Looks like Minnesota was the springboard for a few teams in the Big Ten this year.

Scots4... one last dig, then I'm done.  If D-III football were granted a 64-team tourney, there would be room for a lot more AQ's.  Just saying it might be time to re-evaluate AQ's when there are several excellent teams that don't get a shot at a Pool C or Pool B bid because of the number of AQ's.  Read: not just picking on the MWC here.

Coco... I'm doing really well.  Got married about 7 months ago now.... and just hunkering down for another winter (which I hope won't be quite as icy as last winter).  How are things out on the west coast?

If I could survive Don Morton surviving 7-5 is a piece of cake. :D  The BADGERS have been my guys for my lifetime and no amount of losing will change that.

I recommend not to even TRY that.

Klop is a Cubs fan...that might trump all of those teams.

Of course, being a UD fan hasn't been filled with sunny days over the last 20 years or so.  Mens basketball had a 5-7 year run...other than that...not so much.  But, you are still a fan regardless, just makes it that much better when your team does win at something...anything!!!
