Looking around, and in talking to some people, it sounds like the Knights should probably just save the trip to Whitewater as it appears we don't have much of a chance to compete with the mighty WIAC.  Just take the money from the NCAA that we would spend on travel and save it for next year. Maybe pay another assistant coach with that much money. Oh well, good luck to Whitewater in the next round.

SIMULATION
Wis.-Whitewater (2008) wins 25 of 25 matchups against Wartburg (2008)

Projected Score: Wis.-Whitewater 46 Wartburg 8

Margin of Victory: 38 Points

WOW WALSTON. AND I THOUGHT YOU WERE BEING FACETIOUS!

Its settled then.

Not a chance WH! All the simulations and yacking on this board combined won't mean a thing come Saturday. We all know that when 8 teams are left in the Nation, they are ALL good football teams. If I can take my tongue out of my cheek (which is a rarity on these boards) for a second, I just want to say I expect it to be a great game. I hope all Wartburg fans have a safe trip and a fun time at "The Perk". Hopefully, whichever team wins, they will go on and represent the West in the Stagg!

UD-SPARTAN

Why would the let go coach Brautigam and staff from the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE when he rebuilit the program to back to back winning seasons this last seaon he had a younger sarting group next year they would of been great and they lost to wartburg in overtime and wartburg is going deep into the playoffs it is B.S. and very disrespectful that they would let go head coach vince brautigam one of the best college football coaches there is in NCAA

I don't know if the last part is completely accurate, but I would like more info on this when we're not focused on the playoffs anymore.
Rumors going around the HS circles that he may coach Wahlert next year.
Was there something going on behind the scenes? Hot secretary :-* ?
Players getting into trouble?
Certainly it appeared on the surface that things at UD were rosy. Perhaps Vinny didn't fit into the vision of UD?
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

I wouldn't put too much stock into this simulation program. it's fun to mess with but I gaurantee, before last year's Stagg Bowl, Mount Union beats Whitewater 25 of 25 times according in the simulation....and we all know how that turned out!

That's the beauty of DIII, we don't allow computer programs to pick our national champion (we learn by the D1's mistakes) one bowl game is all we need.

Very confusing situation with coach Brautigam.  UD seemed to be happy with him.  If they had let him go...or if he had thrown up his hands and run away after 3 or even 5 years it would have made sense.  It doesn't make sense to me to let him go at this point.  Yes, the team slipped back to a 2-8 record but you would think the last 2 seasons would have bought him 1 bad season.  Plus, most old timers on here know, the image of UD is of a team with not a lot of discapline and a team that falls apart when the losses mount up.  Brautigam has done a great job of teaching these kids to play with class and do their talking on the field and not with their mouths.  As the losses mounted up this year the team kept on working and had a good attitude throughout the year.  This, to me, was a credit to coach Brautigam.  Another thing I liked in Brautigam is he stuck around wherever he coached.  He had a good record and stayed at Mt. Senario for 10 seasons.  He only left when that school was shutting down.  He stayed at UD for 8 seasons.  He was loyal to the schools he coached.  That is something to admire.

The fact that UD let Brautigam go, they let the volleyball coach go, and 2 years ago they canned the womens Bball coach suggests that they are serious that they want to compete for the all-sports trophy and the coaches better produce or they will be asked to leave the school.  The school has invested a lot of money into facilities and I guess they want to see more wins from their program.  Something that is nice...but I don't know how much that goes with the D3 vision.  I want to see wins as much as anybody, and in some cases you do need to get rid of a coach.  But for Vince Brautigam, he took over a team that had retention issues and brought in kids that stayed with the program.  He was teaching these kids to become good men past their playing days and was just now starting to see some success.  I also saw a coach that had a team playing hard for him despite a bad record this year.  Something that is hard to do.  I think he should have been given more time.  If he ends up at Wahlert then good for him.  He has 1 son that is a senior there this year and another son a couple of years younger.  It sounds like he would like to stay in Dubuque and I hope he gets to go wherever he would like to be.

I also hope UD finds a coach that can bring wins to Dubuque.  But I also hope they find a coach that will run the program with class and not be a win at all costs type person.  We shall see.

Doolittle,

All you said is on target as far as I know.  I think Coach B was good for UD.  He did get them turned around.  Watching the NFL Jimmy Johnson had a good statement.  You get rid of a coach and then you might end up like Detroit.  You can get worse.  At least they knew that Coach B could compete with the top dogs.  You do not know that with the incoming coach.

Walston, Wartburg had darned well better show up on Saturday!  UWW spent ALL MORNING today focusing on Wartburg before dividing up the rest of the week game planning for UMHB and W&J. (The funny thing is you think I'm kidding!)

They should not be wasting that much time on Wartburg.  They should not waste any time on any other team other than MUC.  We all know that the Warhawks also walk on water.

"It's been busloads of fun. With a roster that consists of about 90 percent Iowans, most of them from the eastern part of the state, the Knights have won two games in a D-III football tournament for the first time. Next up is another road trip, this one to defending national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater."

Doolittledog ...

Thanks for your comments.  Getting rid of Coach Brautigam continues to be a puzzle for me and I appreciated hearing from someone close enough to the situation to offer some insight into the overall dynamic.  With you, I hope the new coach is a quality person with lots of "W's" in his future.

And UD-SPARTAN ... welcome to the board.  We need all the UD boosters on here that we can get.

If you honestly believe that we're going to take the team that beat Stevens Point, who beat us, lightly it only shows that you know next to nothing about our team and coaching staff.  One of the strengths of this year's team, as has been the case for several years, is that they don't look beyond the next Saturday.   All our preparation is geared towards beating Wartburg and we'll worry about the next opponent if and when we're fortunate enough to have an opportunity to play them.

We may or may not win Saturday but if we don't it won't be because we took Wartburg lightly and failed to adequately prepare for them.  I guarantee it.

Dirty Staches.....now that is funny.  Don't know if it would be a good idea, may look too much like most of the wisconsin crowd ;D

Thank goodness I reread the post...I thought you wrote Sanchez!

My first thought after reading, "Wow, Wartburg throws a different kind of tailgate party."   :o

That would be any of the fans from Decorah who might make the trip to Whitewater....just kidding Norse fans, I haven't ripped on Luther in awhile.  I just had to.

Anyone hear of a time and place for the tailgate to start?  Any good small breweries near Whitewater to pick up a local favorite brew for pre-game festivities?  I would stop by the Great Dane brewery in Madison but then I would never make it to Whitewater.

Pretty sure we all know that WH wasn't being serious (he rarely is).  I have never been apart of a program that "looked ahead" in their schedule.  Maybe on day one when you looked at your schedule, but once the season starts it is a week by week process.  From defending D3 champions all the way down to 0-fer teams in Mount Vernon, IA (sorry Cornell), everyone knows that it is pointless to plan ahead.  ESPECIALLY in the playoffs when you lose and you are out.
