Question for the board.  Does nerves (Wartburg's) play a factor in the game Saturday or do they come out with the underdog attitude and play loose? Really would like to hear everyones opinion.

I agree with DSquared.  The Knights seemed to show some "nerves" first half last week, defense definitely not looking like they should and some dropped balls that the pass-heavy offense relies on.  Of course a lot of people predicted last Saturday was their best opportunity to win two playoff games, something that had never been done before.  Now that the new mark has been set I think it's defending champs UWW who might show some nerves.  Remember after two losses many thought the Knights wouldn't even be in the playoffs...looks like they have surprised some.

Good luck to the Knights this weekend-injury free game for both teams and safe travels to all!

Have to disagree with you in a big way...I guess if you have seen Whitewater play in the last 4 years, you might only count a couple games that they showed any kind of jitters - the first 2 Staggs' vs Mount and maybe at St. Cloud last year (new QB, new coach, etc). Other than that, the Whitewater teams of the past 4 seasons have a knack of not showing the nerves. Though they are young, many of the players have been on 2 Stagg Bowl rosters in their brief careers. The Whitewater juniors have been part of 42 games already.  That's close to or more than Wartburg seniors this year playing 4 years will play.  If anyone's going to have a case of the shakes (non-weather related  ;) ), more than likely it will be Wartburg, IMO.

In supporting Cornell College, I must support the Kaniggets and their coach, Cornell College Grad Rick Willis.

By the Identity Property of Mathematics (look it up Coe fans), you therefore support Cornell College when you support Rick Willis and the Kaniggets this weekend.

You cannot repel logic of this magnitude.

:D

Actually I think the logic is faulty... it should be the Associative Property of Mathematics   (look it up Cornell fans)  ;)

The following contains reference to Mathematics that may contain numbers higher than the number of fingers and toes that you have.  Parental Discretion is advised.    ;)

The equation you evidently presume is C + (W + K) = (W + K) = C.  You are correct in naming this as the Associative Property of Mathematics

But in this case the equation above is not correct.

The correct equation is:
CI * (W + K) = W+K = (W + K) * CY  Where CI = CY and has a quantity of 1

The equation therefore simplfies to:
1 * (W + K) = W+K = (W + K) * 1

Which is the Identity Property as indicated earlier.

Go Kaniggets

Go Cornell Grad Coach Willis.

More reason for Cornell fans to support the Knights. The AD at the time  Willis was hired is  former Cornell Basketball coach Gary Grace.

Can you imagine the drama on this board if Cornell were able to convince Willis that he needed to "come home" and were able to talk him into becoming the HC at Cornell???

Would it just be about money?  Would he only want to be HC?  Or would he want to be AD/HC?

Is he happy enough in Waverly that he has made his last stop?  Or will we still see him interviewing for D2 jobs in the off season.  If he does do that...will that be a big deal on this board like it was whenever Raeburn interviewed somewhere or will nobody really care?

WCF Courier article on WC safety Marcus Hemesath.

http://wcfcourier.com/articles/2008/12/05/sports/local/10817583.txt

"Heading into Saturday's Division III playoff game at Wisconsin-Whitewater, the senior is second on the team in interceptions (four) and third in tackles (79). He has six pass breakups and two blocked kicks.

In a short time, he's gone from splitting time in the secondary to being named second-team all-conference earlier this month.

"He's a steady guy," Wartburg coach Rick Willis said. "He's not going to get rattled, he's smart and he's dependable. There's a lot of value to somebody that is going to be even-keeled.

"He's developed into a really good safety. He makes plays, and he doesn't make a lot of mistakes."

Hemesath, who has a 3.6 grade-point average in biology and plans to attend medical school, was a national semifinalist for the Draddy Trophy this season --- an award based on academic success, football performance and community leadership. He was the only Iowa Conference player to be named a semifinalist."

I suppose to add on to that.

What does it take to win in the IIAC?

Most schools I would think would have somewhat similar budgets money wise.

Great facilities are nice to have but does that really equal extra wins?

Former players have mentioned they don't want to play for a losing team.  You also have coach Glo at Simpson was able to take Simpson to 7-3 in his first season.

Is it just a case of having a good game plan coach that also knows how to recruit.  And then a school willing to give him at least a little more money than the other schools in the area???

Is it a case of Willis can win at Wartburg therefore he could win at Cornell?  Or is there more to it than that?

Another random question...or questions.

How many D3 stadiums have you been to?  List them as well.

How many states have you seen a D3 game?

How many different D3 stadiums did you see in 1 season?

Same questions...but add in all college football stadiums.

For me that would include

Dubuque
Loras
Luther
Upper Iowa (when they were D3)
Wartburg
Coe
Cornell
BV

So that would mean I have only watched D3 in the state of Iowa

I think I probably only visited 3 D3 stadiums in any 1 season.  But really have no idea.

From other divisions
Iowa
Iowa St.
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Mizzou
K State
UNI
Waldorf
There are probably others...i just can't think straight right now.

Dsquared

doolittle... You name it in the IIAC, I've been there.

Coe, Cornell, Simpson, Luther, Central, BV, Upper Iowa, Loras, Dubuque.  Never been to a D3 game outside of Iowa either.

Other stadiums: Iowa, Iowa State, UNI, Kansas, Nebraska, Florida State, Florida (not to a game in the FLA ones)

Professional: Soldier Field, Cleveland Browns
The only thing capable of cutting Chuck Norris is Chuck Norris...

D3 Stadiums I've been to.....

Simpson, Wartburg, UD, Cornell, Coe, Upper Iowa, William Penn, BV, Loras, Luther, SJU, UW L, UW-WW, UW SP, Linfield, Marrietta, St. Norbert, Augustana, Augsburg, St. Thomas, and of course Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium in beautiful Pella, IA. :)

I'm sure there are a few others that I have forgotten, but hey, I'm getting old. :)

I've been to 6 states to watch D3 football -- Iowa, IL, WI, MN, OR and OH.
