Great column in the Around the Region, Jason.

You certainly know the region.

I cannot argue against your logic and the choices that you have made for the "mid-season" awards.

Thanks for doing such a great job, from all the way up there in Delaware!  ;)

(Of course, I don't know why you don't just move your family to Texas and teach school down here.  ;D  )

Thanks for the offer, Ralph. I don't see it happening. My wife grew up in Minnesota and western Wisconsin and now likes being 50 minutes away from Rehoboth and Dewey Beach in the summer.

She was teacher of the year in our school district this year, so she's comfortable in her job. I've already tried to talk her into Pennsylvania, no go.

Maybe if she wins "State" teacher of the year next week, she'll be ready to take on a bigger state.

Gotta say I love the line in tripe take about the UMHB-MC.

"UMHB averages 44 points per game and has allowed just 49 all season"

However this game should be the toughest test so far so I must thank Chris Brooks and the MC folks for their video of the game  ;D

About the video. I noticed a few negative comments about UMHB's video last weekend and wanted to give everyone an idea what goes into providing the video stream.

The most important thing is having a hard connection to send out the broadcast. A lot of stadiums either don't have connections, or don't have the greatest internet on campus in the first place. We are fortunate to have good IT people at MC and a good network, and made the decision to hard line the football facility a few years ago.

When you start streaming off a wireless connection, which could have happened at UMHB, you lose a lot of detail. Usually wireless cards only allow for 300-500 Kbps of upload, which makes you stream around 250-300 Kbps to be safe it doesn't buffer badly. Nothing you can do about it off a wireless card. The stream we send out at MC is around 600-700 Kbps which is good, but it does require a pretty good connection on the viewing end to not have buffering.

Also, keep this in mind. I think we are the only school in the ASC that no longer has local radio for football, primarily because we decided to put more time and money into the online broadcasts. Hopefully this weekend everything will go well with the broadcast and everyone will see a good game.

Didn't do good last week

     MC over UMHB
     LC over ETBU
     McM over Sul Ross
     HSU over HPU
     Incarnate Word over TLU

I was reading the MC story posted earlier on this board about the upcoming game and I saw someone commented that MC had their 1989 D2 national championship vaccated due to having too many scholarship players? Anybody know more about that story?

I had a MC alum talk to me about that today.  Nothing in detail, he just mentioned it when wished the Cru good luck.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

   BEAT HPU............

For tommorow.. GO HSU - win homecoming!
Go McM - win homecoming
Go ACU (D2 school in Abilene) - Win homecoming
Go Cru - beat the Choctaws!

(And yes all 3 universities in Abilene have homecoming this weekend.  Hope no one needed a hotel room)

Which game are you going to?

@d3jason

Interesting story line that I missed this week in Around the South, so I will post my thoughts here. (Maybe I need to start an Around the South Page like Ryan Tipps has done for the Mid Atlantic.)

What are you thinking this morning if you are UMHB running back Desmond Mayes?

For those unfamiliar, Mayes was the leading rusher in the ASC last season for Mississippi College last season and transferred for his senior season. Thus far, he has shared the back up role at tailback with Rickie Williams and rushed for 169 yards on 36 carries with touchdowns in five games.

From what I remember, Mayes sighted wanting to play back in his home state of Texas and wanting to play for a team with a chance to play for a national championship as reasons for his transfer.

So I guess the question is at this point has it been worth it?

You figure he would have gotten more carries with the Choctaws this season and if they win today will most likely make the playoffs.

I am not attempting to make a judgment on his Mayes decision. For him, maybe it's been worth. The Cru, based on past performance, does have a better shot at being Salem in December. So without mud-slinging, name-calling, etc, what do you think?

I'm watching OU - UT on the big Screen until UMHB-MC comes on, then watching that online.  Depending on how that goes, I'll probably catch the end of either the HSU or McM game depending on which game is better.  Curiously all 3 games in Abilene kick at the same time, an hour after the UMHB MC kickoff

I think at the end of the season it will have been worth it.  McKnight seems to be a pretty good back (thank you Choctaw Vision) so he might have been splitting time this year any way.  He's close enough to home for family and friends to come and watch him play; and he had to have known UMHB would be loaded at RB, they always are.  My guess is he knew he would have a chance to compete but the backfield would be crowded; that at the end of the day he had the best shot at making the playoffs in Belton; and that he could share the experience with his family if he was in Belton.

I would agree with Toby, it seems to be working out for everyone and it makes this game even more energy so I am happy.

Also I heard that he probably will be getting more carries today than he has in the past, would love to be there to see what can of reception he will get.

RyeMc3

Great win for Mississippi College.  I thought they out played UMHB.  Their defense was great.

Bill McCabe

I was very impressed with MC.  Both defenses played well.  I don't understand changing QBs in the last 2 minutes, unless Bailey was hurt.  So much for the #8 seed coming to Belton.  Hopefully this will not be another 2003.
