Poor performance on the field is probably what did it.  All programs have problems to deal with from time to time.
But look at the scores this season.

That was not poor performance.  They were winless, but they were competitive in 5 of their D-3 games, including Trinity  The Sul Ross loss was for Sully's Homecoming.

Ralph, when you don't win a game, the scores really don't matter.  I don't think TLU has  improved over the past few years.

Ralph,
Sul Ross actually played their homecoming game against Mississippi College.  Only reason I know that is because I made the 14 hour trip to Alpine and got to see it first-hand.

Texas Lutheran did play well against MC in the final game of the season.  The quarterback Luke Davis has a bright future.

Okay, you Detroit Tiger baseball fans.

Look at the holder of the season record for rushing yardage for Sul Ross.

That was a great story.  Looked him up on line!  Pretty remarkable! Cash was drafted by the Bears but declined to play pro football...Amazing!
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Email from Dr Russell.

Many old time Texas school folks knew Raymon Bynum.

QuoteMcMurry Family

In a follow-up to an earlier message I shared with you on the passing of Dr. Raymon Bynum, we are forwarding the following information on his services.

Visitation is Sunday, December 13 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at:         Restland Funeral Home

13005 Greenville Ave

Dallas, Texas 75243

(972) 238-7111

Burial is Monday December 14th at Restland at 3:00 PM.

A Memorial Service will be Monday at 4:00 PM at:                          First United Methodist Church Richardson.

                                                                                                                               503 North Central Expressway

                                                                                                                               Richardson, Texas 75080

                                                                                                                               (972) 235-8385

(It is located on the west service road of 75 (Central Expressway) between Belt Line and Arapaho.)

Education lost a real leader with the passing of Dr. Raymon Bynum early this morning. He devoted his entire life to public education – starting as a math teacher and coach, and rising to become the top public education official in the State of Texas.

From the classroom, Dr. Bynum moved into public school administration. He served for 22 years as the Assistant Superintendent of Richardson Schools before being called to Austin. In 1975 Dr. Bynum was named the Assistant Commissioner of Finance with the Texas Education Agency. In 1979, he was named Deputy Commissioner of Administrative Services for the TEA. And in 1981, Dr. Bynum was appointed to serve as the Texas State Commissioner of Education – a post he held for more than three years until his retirement.

But Dr. Bynum did not really retire, instead providing consultative service to public education throughout the State of Texas. His recognized expertise in public school finance kept him busy with school districts throughout Texas.

Dr. Bynum was a McMurry graduate ('50) after achieving academic honors and playing football. He obtained an MEd from SMU and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from McMurry in 1975. He served as President of McMurry's Alumni Association and on McMurry's Board of Trustees. Dr. Bynum was named to the McMurry Athletic Hall of Honor in 1987 and was recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus in 1984.

All of McMurry is saddened.

Thanks Ralph.  I had no idea Norm Cash went to Sul Ross.  Ended up being a pretty good baseball player, too.

Nice baseball stadium in Post is named in his memory.
Not really a bad dog. Just misunderstood!

The all-region teams are out.  Congrats to all the ASC players on the team, but Cru shout outs to the UMHB 1st teamers:
T Max Taylor Mary Hardin-Baylor Jr. Lufkin, Texas
C Dustin Davis Mary Hardin-Baylor Jr. Harker Heights, Texas
G Myke Gobert Mary Hardin-Baylor Sr. Houston, Texas
CB Brett Parker Mary Hardin-Baylor Sr. Richmond, Texas
AP Bryson Tucker Mary Hardin-Baylor Sr. Caldwell, Texas

A side note, Bryson Tucker is the only All Purpose player on any of the All-Region teams, but certainly the right designation.

Thanks D3football for making that call.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

crufootball

Ditto on the congrats to the ASC members on the All-South team. I like seeing all the linemen getting the credit they deserve from the Cru, like it even more that 2 of the 3 will be back next year.  ;D

Not sure if anyone was following the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year contest this year but it appears that Coach Fred got the raw end of the deal.

The award is a 5 part process with the first part being fan voting from 9/14 to 12/6 and in this part Coach Fred won by over 2,000 votes. He had over 6,000 votes on the last day of voting and his  next  competitor was around 4,000.

After this the top 15 in the voting are entered into the evaluation phase from 12/7 to 12/14 in which they are judged on Coaching Excellence, Sportsmanship and Integrity, Academic Excellence and Community Commitment criteria.

They just released the results of that and it includes Steve Staker - Coe College, John Troxell - Franklin & Marshall College, John Gagliardi - Saint John's University, Steve Briggs - Susquehanna University, and Greg Debeljak - Case Western .

Now I realize the award is based on more than wins and losses (as it should be) but how can a coach that beat his competition by 2,000 votes and has the success of Coach Fred not at least make it to the final vote?
