Which then raises a couple more questions...

What question is that? This move will be a step in the right direction for TLU, but UMHB should still be the leader.

Here are 5 burning questions I have about next season; I'd love to hear your take:

1) What major shakeup do you see in the Cru's future as Coach Pete outlined after the Linfield game?

2) What area of weakness do you see as being the most important to shore up?

3) Which direction should our offense take: dominant rushing or opening up the pass?

4) Will the Cru win a national title with Coach Pete at the healm?  (I'm not calling for a new coach, just throwing out the question)

5) Will QD be back?
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Trying to put together some sort of drop back passing game?

In my opinion, the Cru needs to decide what type of offense they want to run.  I'm hoping they go back to a pounding running game out of the I, with the option and play action passes.  They have excellent running backs and good option QBs.  I think the spread has not been their best offense by a long shot.

They've been able to pass the ball, it's just not our bread and butter. I do think a taller QB would be good to have. It seems that ours are always so small and they have a hard time seeing over defenders.

Yeah, they can pass the ball off the play action pretty well but their current QB's didn't look very comfortable at sitting in the pocket when the Cru went to a drop back passing attack.

Obviously, you guys would know better by seeing them play more but that was an aspect of the Cru's offense that wasn't very impressive in the one game I saw.

Toby Taff

I think Bill is right that the Cru needs to decide who they are or are going to be and work towards that goal.  I like the running attack that has been the bread and butter in the past, but I want to see an effective passing attack.  Bailey can throw and can run, but tends to choose the run option over the pitch and pass.  That cost the Cru in the MC game.  I think part of that was inexperience, maybe most, but if the option is going to work, it has to actually have options.  Whatever moves are made, I think more effort needs to be put in to making the QBs comfortable with all aspects of the position so that the option is as effective in the playoffs as it is in conference play.

Oh and I think we need to find a Bryson Tucker clone, we're going to miss him next season.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Playing great defense and pounding the ball down their opponents throats have been MHB's M.O. for quite some time now. It has brought them much success in the ASC and the playoffs. However, a more balance offense might be required to get beyond the semi's and back to the Stagg Bowl.

running the game is great for winning the time of possesion, and keeping the other team's offense off the field, but as we seen in the Linfield game it doesn't bode well when you fall behind early. It's not exactly a quick-strike style of offense, especially when you're required to pass more often your QB is comfortble with (or use to).

Because passing is usually done "when we have to," then we need to come out firing next year. We have to have some type of passing game when we get to the playoffs, and Hardin Simmons and Mississippi College will come out throwing. We can't play catch up with the run. The run can still be our bread and butter, but when we play early in the season, we need to come out firing.  Drop back and pass, shotgun, play action, whatever...It just needs to be done. We are seeing that teams who throw the ball win big games. Just watch Whitewater and MU strike down the field and look who has played in the Stagg the past 5-6 years. A change has to be made.

I'd start with conditioning and a rabbit's foot. Those injuries are season stoppers.
(Has Feaster recovered physically?)

Justin is doing ok.  He has been throwing the ball and seems to have fully recovered.  Arm strength and accuracy is looking real good if not better than it was.  I wish good health and safety for all players.  Injuries are very hard to overcome.

I assume your response was to some other posting, cause UMHB, for the most part, was fully healthy this year.

I too would like to see a healthy Hardin Simmons. It only makes our league better and our team better. Happy off season to all!

Stumbled across this story about possible NFL talent coming from small schools and ran across UMHB's Brett Parker for the Steelers.

Ralph? Did I miss this before I saw it the 20th of January?

QuoteNEW ORLEANS (AP) -The University of New Orleans will end its
affiliation with the Sun Belt Conference on July 1, part of a move
from NCAA Division I to Division III.

Conference officials said Wednesday they would waive the early withdrawal fees.

UNO chancellor Tim Ryan said that the university wanted to remain but
state budget cuts and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina "have created
a situation in which Division I athletics was simply untenable."

UNO, a founding member of the conference in 1976, moved in 1981 to the
American South Conference, which merged with the Sun Belt in 1991.

"In order to save an athletic program at UNO, the University will be
moving to Division III, and the Sun Belt Conference and its officials
have been understanding of the unique situation UNO is in and
supportive of our efforts to save athletics at UNO," Ryan said.
