Welcome aboard, Kevin.

This probably won't surprise many UMHB fans but the team has a new starting QB.

Should be a great game...

UMHB is bringing their best (as usual).

Travel safely.

Hopefully it will be good game, I just watched the highlight videos of McMurry and they appeared to do anything they wanted to against the teams they played so far.

If HSU makes it through the 4 week ringer unscathed, are they a legit top 5 team in the nation and the south represenative in the second season?  I know I know other things can happen in the next six weeks, but just go along with me here for a min.

The next two weeks will "tell the tale" early in the season for UMHB.  Go Cru!  Everybody stay healthy through this Saturday!  The biggest test is HSU on Sept 25th--and I have to miss the game!

minni,

suffice to say that HSU is legit. They have a great shot this year and in typical HSU fashion if they get through the next two games they should be able to give valuable time to other guys on the depths chart. As for playoff seeding etc... the superstitious part of me says don't jenks a good thing. I can say that they are the real deal and it really looks like all the pistons are firing. Should be an exicting year for the cowboys. One game at a time. GO COWBOYS!

I don't see how many could argue they are not one of the best teams in the nation if they can get through week 4 unscathed. In my opinion it might be hard for them to be ranked in the Top 5 just because UW-W, Mount Union, and Wesley don't lose that often in the regular season and St. Thomas seems very good as well leaving only the #5 spot open. As far as represntating the South again it might be hard just because Wesley stands in the way although they could fall since they lost the main QB.

Minni,

I think the answer to your question is yes.  If they go through 3 top 20 teams in the first 4 weeks they will be right there.  My guess is that if they make it through the 25th they'll probably finish undefeated and their schedule will make a strong bid for a number one seed.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

(The reason that McMurry played Bacone and Texas College?

Both Trinity and Austin College did not renew the 2-year contracts.)

I would love to see the MC - HSU game this weekend, they both might be among the nation's top 10 teams, along with UMHB. The ASC is very good again this year.

I know HSU is good, they were my pick to win the ASC this year, but don't overlook MC which is very good again this year with a lot of returners and a handful of talented transfers and newcomers. MC might have the best tandem of tailbacks in the country in Steven Knight and Austin Divinity. You can look at the highlights of MC's games on their website, Knight had a pair of 50-yard touchdowns in their opener that few DIII backs have the speed to make. Divinity rushed for 100 last week and is talented, I think he was one of 3 finalists for Gatorade Player of the Year in MS his senior year.

If you remember, junior quarterback Tommy Reyer was Co-Offensive Freshman of the Year in the ASC two years ago, and has been good against two quality opponents. He has over 500 yards of offense in the two games and five touchdowns. He's rushed for over 100 yards, which makes MC hard to defend when coupled with the other two running backs. He's also 42-61 passing for about 450 yards and four touchdowns so far.

MC has a new defensive coordinator this year. Lytrel Pollard was a DB coach at the University of Memphis the last two years, and a DB coach and also Special Teams Coordinator at the University of Southern Mississippi where he was on staff for seven years before that. The MC defense has looked very good so far, allowing just 18 points per game against good teams.

Like I said, I thought HSU was the favorite entering this year, and I think Feaster is a great QB. I would make HSU the favorite this weekend based on the usual 3-point advantage playing at home, but I would probably favor MC if they were homel. Should be a great game.

McMurry is improving, but I'd be surprised if they hang with UMHB. I see that one being a couple touchdowns.

I know that it is too early to tell, but with three highly ranked teams this year in the ASC is it possible for all three, or two of the three to make the playoffs?  This could be the most competitive our conference has been since its inception in 1996.  Not counting chickens before they hatch of course!  :)
