I don't know how good mhb's running game is but from what I've seen in the first two games that mcm played, although the competition wasn't good, their defensive backs that played, especially the free safety's, Dylan Pritchett and Austin Clere were all over the place and had great coverage, both have good size, especially the Pritchett kid 6'1 195 and 4.46 speed and Clere, both who were subbing for Will Morris who is probably going to the NFL next year. MBH better have a good running game because they may not be able to pass as easy as they did last year?

Pat,

They did not cancel at the last minute, their unwillingness to renew left us with a difficult task in finding D3 opponents in the south.  Yes, other ASC teams have traveled to places like Wisconsin and the Northwest, however because we are rebuilding a program, there are many factors to consider including financial resources.  Also other obilgations already made for next year made finding a new opponent for this year difficult.

As D3 Football.com has clearly pointed out, maybe we did not do ourselves any favors by playing the teams we did.

I understand your right to question, but there are other facts to consider that hopefully people will take into consideration before judging the quality of our opponents.

Pat Coleman

I appreciate your willingness to share facts rather than simply question the questioner. I didn't think Ralph's explanation shed much light, since teams decide not to renew contracts all the time. That is hardly a unique challenge or an excuse.

I am sure that Ralph would have responded to my request for more information. I am, however, dismayed that the official arbiter of such information would choose to attempt to squelch the question rather than 1) answer it (preferred) or 2) say nothing (better than the path chosen).

You're right on this one, let's move on!

I assure you UMHB's running game is good, as it always is.  UMHB is a pound the ball football team with a few big boys upfront. Last week they rushed 55 times with a 4.4 yd/carry average.  The starting RB averaged 6.6/carry last season and the starting QB averaged 7.5/carry, including playoff games.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

UMHB must continue to run the football effectively, dominate time of possession, and win the turn over margin.  Combined with great sufficating defense, filled with stops and turnovers against a dangerous quick strike offense.  Everything I read points to the fact that the ASC is much improved this season.  McM will be tough oppenent especially at home and more comfortable with Coach Mumme's offense.  Hey, the ASC reminds me more and more of the SEC. No easy games, and you must play well every week or you will get beat.

I think UMHB's running game will be alright considering on the last podcast Keith said we had a decent game by UMHB standards and it was for nearly 250 yards and we average 320 yards last year.

minni,

suffice to say that HSU is legit. They have a great shot this year and in typical HSU fashion if they get through the next two games they should be able to give valuable time to other guys on the depths chart. As for playoff seeding etc... the superstitious part of me says don't jenks a good thing. I can say that they are the real deal and it really looks like all the pistons are firing. Should be an exicting year for the cowboys. One game at a time. GO COWBOYS!

HSU did look good against Willamette, but didn't blow me away. Can't say I've seen UMHB to know how they look, but coming from 19 down on the road, in an environment that they have had zero success, and not being a good team on  the road historically when they've had to fly, shows me that they are much better this year. Should be a good game this week and two weeks from now.

Besides the fact that we have two guys who were on the JV last year giving QD some rest. They took most of the drive on I believe our 2nd touchdown last week. They like to spell QD a lot during the 3rd, which scares me sometimes, but these two were great in the backfield last week and they will be again. Also, our Oklahoma State recruit should be more comfortable with LB taking snaps. I look for him to play a larger role as the season moves on.

Funny you mention the backups for Qunicy as they wrote an article about one of them, Darius Wilson. in the Temple paper today. Darius looked pretty good on Saturday and I think will be a nice back up for QD as the season goes on. http://www.temple-telegram.com/story/2010/9/17/68676

I am very excited to see how they add Damian Davis, the OK State transfer, into the offense as the season goes on. He only played one play in Wisconsin and that was the hail mary pass at the end of the first half. We have got to draw a formation that puts him and Ervin on the same side of the ball near the endzone, throw the ball up and I am guessing one of the 6-5 receivers is going to come down with it ;)

I saw the article. Great spread. Sounds like a great young man with a good head, great team mentality, on his shoulders.

I have never felt comfortable with the QB situation at UMHB....until now. I really think LB is a stud. He still makes me nervouse, but seeing the way he brought back the team AFTER he turned it over was huge! He needs to find one or two of those guys at WR and get him a go to guy. I like that.

And there is a lot to say about a defense that is put in bad situations and ONLY gives up 19. They played VERY well! I look for them to stay hungry this week.

Not sure I'm going to make it to the game, but I believe it will be broadcast through the McMurray web site. Pumped for that!  Go Cru!

Wish I could be at both Abilene games this Sat.  Guess I'll have to take a radio and listen to the HSU game.  Looks like the conference is becoming much more balanced which makes it tougher on everyone, but great to watch!
I enjoyed seeing Wilson able to take over when Daniels was "resting."
Hope the running game is well on Sat, so passing can also be a threat!

I went to the HSU game last Saturday and can't make the UMHB game this Saturday. Stinks. But, that's cool. Hopefully the boys will come out with a greater sense of urgency. Hopefully they know how good this team is clicking this year. Should be another grudge match, and if UMHB can get out unscathed, they may be the most prepared they have ever been for a post season.

Just saw that HSU plays at 1 pm, wonder if my wife would sit through two games in one day--I don't think so!!!
