Punching and gouging at the bottom of a pile has never been condoned.  Only one time while I played did that happen to me.  I don't think it is that prevalent.

Question for the HSU fans. Some of you have said that things are going to happen at the bottom of a pile in football and that really isnt dirty but typical behavior in football (which I agree with), however some of you are saying that Coach Keeling wouldn't tolerate that type of behavior.

My question is which side is correct?

Cru...I think you know "which side is correct"...and just want to "stir the pot."  ;)   BOTH positions are correct! :)  In the "heat of battle" a player may throw a punch...but that does not mean the coach condoned it...or taught it.  (And this is from a Marine, not a football player!!!) :-*   Get real! ;D

LC is headed west for its match-up with McMurry. I have no doubt that the offense will put up enough points to win - the Cats are averaging 47 points a game. However, the "Dalmatian Defense" is going to have to come through in enough spots for LC to come home with a victory and extend the Wildcat win streak to 5 in a row.

Crufootball,

I think you are "trying to stir the pot" however to address any misconception.... I think Coach Keeling runs a pretty tight ship. He expects a lot from his players and doesn't take any crap from them. No one on that team is above the law each is expected to act and play in a way that represents the university well. Do things happen in a pile? I'm sure they do for several reason. I think most of the HSU fans have taken offense to the notion that any "dirty play" was condoned or taught by the HSU staff and followed by the majority of the players. You're probably getting more chatter this week on the topic because HSU has a bi this week so there is no "so in so" is next to talk about. On another topic did BHMU travel to Sul Ross early because of the long drive? That road trip is such a beating. Hope everyone stays focus and plays well. Stay heathy.

crufootball, let me ask you the same question.  Is the something Coach Fred would condone?  does that mean the UMHB players don't do it??  Come on now let's be real.

To answer your question, no Coach K doesn't condone it at all.  I have seen him punish a player that got caught doing it.  Didn't get flagged but it was seen by the coaching staff and Monday was not fun for that individual!!!!

On another topic.  I do some volunteer coaching at a private school.  We had a player that was clearly targeted by the other team.  Helmet to helmet hits.  My player was being choked, he swung, did not connect, and got tossed.  Not arguing he got tossed.  I agree with that.  Although he was suppose to sit out tapes were sent into the Association and district and it was decided that my player was targeted and provoked.  So I got to play him the last week.  That next Tuesday on the message board the topic of dirty player and coaches came up.  I talked about how my player, who is a junior, could not wait until next year to get some redemption and pay back.  And I am not talking about anything dirty, his words to me where coach, I wanna score 80 points on them by halftime next year.  I got crucified because I used the terms payback and playing with a vengence.  Also, I was told I need to seek help because I was going to let my kids remember this and coach them to play with a vengence??  Am I wrong??  I have tried to teach these kids when you play scared you get hurt.  bear in mind these kids have been in the cellar for a long time so I am trying to teach them to WIN.  I have always been coached to be the hardest hitting team and player.  Little help please.

First of Minni, I'll speak on the Coach Fred.  I played for UMHB from 2001-2004.  He definetly would not condone any outwardly dirty type of play form any of his players.  We were taught I imagine same as HSU to play very physical and hard but to have class.  Did everyone adhere to that no but that's the message the head coach conveys.  As far as wanted to get a team back I see no problem with that at all.  I coach as well and if I notice a team is being dirty and taking cheap shots I try to put points as many points on the board as possible.  That's the way to get back at them with in the rules.
If it's not about winning and losing then why keep score?

I really wasn't trying to stir the pot that much, however I noticed some fans saying that these things happen and we need to move on which I totally agree with, but some people were acting like there is no way that eyes were gouged and punches thrown because Coach Keeling wouldn't allow it. You can't have it both ways. Coach Pete definitley does not condone that type of behavior but I would never deny it happened with the excuse that he wouldn't allow it and I know Coach Keeling is the same way.

Again I wasn't trying to stir up trouble, just conversation, on an issue that obviously some people have strong opinions on.

I coach as well. I coach offensive line. Which by the way is the most important position on the field (the real skill). We play very physical. Instead of punching back, we locate the biggest hot head on the defense and stay in their ear the whole game. When they punch, my linemen celebrate that they got a personal foul and get ready to go again. This has happened several times this year and we have never swung back. Besides, we run a fast pace offense so we don't have time. My linemen are to busy hurrying to the line to get set.  :)

Disclaimer:  I was a lineman back in the days when Gatorade was developed.   ;)

I agree.  The hardest talent to find in Texas is big athletic linemen.  To get to the HSU/UMHB/UWW/MUC level you need big talented linemen.

Wild finish at McM. LC intercepts a pass in the end zone with about 5 seconds on the clock to preserve a 35-32 win. Way to geaux Wildcats!

From the game story on cruathletics.com:

QuoteUMHB forced five turnovers to help overcome Sul Ross's 40:39-19:21 edge in time of possession.

Possibly the most ridiculous statement I have ever read.  They put 76 pts and 455 yds on them in 19:21...I don't think "helped them overcome"really had anything to do with the result.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

HSU Cowboys!

Git 'er done...for sure!

Game may be tougher than originally thought.  Any comments about the improved LC?

LC has lots of weapons on offense. However, the defense has struggled. When the Cat D plays well, I call it a Dalmatian Defense, meaning it plays well in spots. For LC to have a chance against HSU this week the game will have to be a high scoring shootout. IMO I don't think the Cats can afford to get behind. They must start fast & match HSU score for score.

The Cowboys, coming off a bye week & needing a win to secure a playoff spot, are going to be very tough.

I'm hoping for a wild one in Pineville on Saturday. Geaux Wildcats!
