Hmmm. 14 points by the offense.

umhb2001

Watched pretty much the entire UMHB/MC game. Offense, I think, had its worst game. Accounted for 14 points while the rest of the team accounted for 21. NOT good. Had two chances inside the 5 to punch it in early in the 1st and couldn't. I think LB is a good QB. He has the arm and the legs to be great. I wish him better luck this week in preparation for Southern Oregon and hopefully a better game next Saturday!

Rushing still looked good, but I'm beginning to think that the I might just be better. Who knows. I don't. That's why I'm here and the coaches are there.

Good pull out win! Good luck this week and work hard in practice boys! We have a ways to go.

My thoughts exactly. Shot ourselves in the foot several times. Very frustrating. But, a win is a win.....I guess.

6 sacks tonight

Wilson, 136 yds rushing I believe.
LB 60 yds

LB 5-14 for 55 yds. 1 INT

Geoff Myles 72 yd punt return TD
Ty Dooly 15 tackles !!!

The Cru won like they usually do with a strong defense and outstanding special teams. Congratulations on the win and now get home field for the playoffs.

The LC defense comes up big by shutting ETBU out in the second half and the offense did just enough to pull out the win.

The LC defense was nowhere to be found in the first half. The Cats gave up 24 points and 308 yards of offense to ETBU. The result, LC found itslef down by 10 at intermission. However, the second half was a different story. LC held the Tigers scoreless and limited ETBU to 87 yards of offense. The Wildcats forced the Tigers to go three-and-out four times, held ETBU on fourth down once, and recovered a fumble on what would be the Tigers final drive of the game. Good come from behind victory for the Wildcats.

McM final 41-14. Game called with 14+ minutes left in the 4th quarter after a running clock was used after the first quarter.

As a McMurry fan, I'm pretty excited about what our team has accomplished so far this season.  Our only loss in conference play was by just one point, and our wins have been by convincing margins.  Articles in the Abilene paper write about our hope to get an at-large bid in the playoffs.  But if we want to keep this going, we need to come off our clouds.  By my reckoning, all our wins were against teams with losing seasons.  Even our big opening game loss, to SFA, was to a team that hasn't won a game since.  (We told ourselves that the worst point spread in McM football history was inevitable given SFA was a D1 school, but that excuse doesn't look so credible given their track record since playing us).  Coming up are teams with winning records, starting with Texas Lutheran next Saturday.  Except for UMHB, we've just finished the easy part of our conference schedule.  I think we're physically ready for this, but we also need to get mentally ready.  This may be our real challenge for the next two weeks: to avoid the early-game screw ups that doomed us against UMHB so that history doesn't repeat itself.

CRU had better worry about improving the offense each game to the end now, instead of looking to the playoffs and home field advantage.  That will come from doing business the rest of the games!

This is off the subject but I saw Wesley beat a d1 team that gave Florida state a game for a quarter.

You have a point, but that would be more than Charleston Southern scored the entire first half against Florida State.  ;) Nor has CS done anything since then. So to say they hung with them and that gives Wesley a leg up is not saying much. Wesley did play ETBU, so that will be a good gauge for us as we play them. They did lose to Kean, and Kean has gone undefeated this year, but the rest of their games have been against non programs. UMHB has at least faced ranked teams, which I don't think Wesley has as I can tell.

Right now, the biggest foe for UMHB is themselves and fixable mistakes. They need to stop throwing the ball away, utilize the receivers in better ways, and not forget their first love. Pound the rock! With that, they can go far.

This weekend will be a good time to work on some of those issues as we play NAIA foe Southern Oregon. We should be able to dominate them. We'll see.

Whew... It looks like UMHB is playing at 1:00 p.m. this week.  I guess the board will not be as active.

In all seriousness, the Cru came into Clinton and used their stout defense and lack of mistake-making to run away from the Choctaws on Saturday night.  While MC outgained the Cru, 360-267, the Choctaws could not overcome 11 penalties and problems in the kicking game to come back against UMHB.  In the second half, the MC defense held UMHB to just 39 yards of offense and two first downs.  After Darius Wilson rushed for 136 yards in the first half, he only had two in the second half.

UMHB's offense has a lot of talent and ability.  I think when they just lined it up and ran right at the Choctaws in the first half, that's where they had their success.

In other news, MC running back Steven Knight eclipsed the 2,000 yard mark for his career on Saturday night.  After rushing for 1,333 yards in his first season in 2009, Knight missed most of the 2010 season due to injury.  It's good to have him back in the lineup.  Rushing for 2,000 yards in 19 games is a great accomplishment for anyone.

This week's game between ETBU and MC has an interesting oddity.  Neither team has won a home game in this series since 2005.  Sed Harris, Jair Stover, and the offense will be tough to stop, but the defense has had its struggles this week.  On the other hand, it could be a big night for the MC offensive unit, as well, with ETBU ranking last in total defense (401.5 ypg) and next-to-last in scoring defense (35.2 ppg).

Well crap. I subscribe to keep up with things from home so I don't always think about it. They frequently post full UMHB sports articles that you don't have to subscribe to read.

Here's a quote to summarize:

QuoteThe Mary Hardin-Baylor coach more or less shot down the Crusaders' newly installed Pistol-formation offense.

"I think you're going to see us in some different formations," Fredenburg said at his weekly news conference Monday morning.

Wow!  Changing the Offense!  But, not that much of a surprise???  Be interesting to see how the CRU offense performs Sat. against SOU.

I do think the ETBU-MC game will be interesting, as well.
