Texas Semester at McMurry.

A 15-hour semester experience of Texas offered by Don Frazier and Steven Hardin.

I think it would be lots of fun to shoot the Sharps .45-70 Buffalo Rifle at the steel "Buffalo" target at 300 yards.

Great day for UMHB football, Nate Menkin signed with the Texans and Damian Davis signed with the Giants.  :D

For anyone interested the Lindy's Sports Preview and USA Today Preview are out for purchase.

USA Today is written by Pat Coleman so it is pretty good. They (he) only had the top 10 with the only mention of the an ASC team being UMHB at #5. The rest is pretty predicable with the top 5 being UW-W, Mount Union, Wesley, North Central and UMHB.

Lindy's wasn't as good but at this point I will take anything. They had a complete top 25 poll with UMHB getting the only love for ASC teams coming in at #10. They put Mount Union at the top with Wesley at 2 and then UW-W.  Hardin-Simmons was mentioned in their Big Games section with their game against Linfield.

Congratulations to McMurry for the highest finish in the Learfield Directors' Cup among ASC schools.

I was surprised that Hardin-Simmons did not receive any votes in the D3Football.com preseason top 25.   Only ASC members UMHB at 4 and LC at 30 received votes.  Are the 'Boys having a rebuilding year?  They are playing games with two Northwest Conference opponents --the first against Willamette in Texas and the second, as noted above, against Linfield in Oregon.

HSU has been out of the conference picture with the recent ascendance of McMurry.  Most voters only know that the ASC is dominated by UMHB, and with HSU not making the playoffs recently, they don't have any voter mindshare.  With McM having departed for D2 they should retake their place as the second-best team in the ASC, but the dropoff after UMHB is huge.

HSU has been rebuilding. Part of it is UMHB ascending and players that used to go to HSU going to UMHB, part of it is Keeling retiring and changes in the program. Add to that Hal Mumme resurrecting McM like a phoenix from ashes and the last couple of years have been rough. I'd look for marked improvement this season

The ASC has announced its pre-season POTY selections:

Offense:  QB LiDarral Bailey, senior, UMHB;
Defense:  LB Javicz Jones, senior, UMHB (second straight preseason DPOY selection);
Special Teams:  PK Allen Cain, senior, TLU.

UMHB was a unanimous selection to win the conference; LC was picked as runners-up, with HSU third.

Looking forward to HSU/Linfield restarting their series.  Lots of respect for the Cowboys up in McMinnville.  See you guys soon.

UMHB's Nate Menkin is listed on the Texans depth chart as the third left tackle.
